After she had received the text message from Josie's mother, Jack practically rushed over to the Allen house. It didn't take that long but for a friend in need it seemed like an eternity. Jack jumped out of her car and jogged to the front door where she was let in by Mrs. Allen. She took a moment to calm Josie's mother down before asking where Josie's room was. Jack began a slow walk up the stairs and up to her bedroom door. Once she reached it, she knocked a few times. When she knocked again, she called through the door, "Jos? It's Jack." She waited a moment to see if Josie would open the door herself but the moment grew into another so it seemed she had to take the initiative herself. "I'm coming in," she said before she turned the knob slowly and pushed the door open. She found the room to be completely dark and would've turned on the light but decided against it. Jack moved slowly over to Josie in her bed, "Hey sweetie.."
With no response from Josie, she moved in closer to the bed. "I heard about what happened," Jack said as she sat down on the end of the bed. "I'm so sorry." She scooted further up on the bed and reached out her hand, beginning to stroke the back of Josie's head and run her fingers through her hair. Jack rested herself on the bed and curled up slightly to her distraught friend. "I'm just going to be here for a little while, ok? You don't have to say anything if you don't want to. I just want you to know I'm here if you want to talk." Silence passed over again as Jack continued to brush Josie's hair with her fingers. They sat this way for what seemed like forever. At about three hours later, Jack looked at her phone and saw that it was getting late. Getting tired herself and with what seemed like no progress here, she decided to give up for the night.
"Josie," Jack said as she pulled away and started to get off the bed, "I'm sorry sweetie but I think I need to go. If you need anything, have your mom call me, ok?" She stood at the side of the bed looking down sadly at Josie. She leaned over, brushed back Josie's hair and kissed her cheek. After pulling back, she stepped away from the bed and backed up towards the door, "I'll see you later." She turned to face the door and turned the knob slowly once more.
