Molly had begun to doubt it would happen, but whatever forces held sway over the weather were benevolent that day. The air was still, the sun was warm, and it was a wonderful time for a swim. Even if it hadn’t been for her promise to Rena, she’d have spent the morning at the pond. Or maybe even the river, though she’d a stronger preference for the former. It was quiet and often abandoned. She could be alone with her thoughts there.
She had her hair braided back as Abby had shown her. With some practice, she’d managed to get it to the point where it looked well enough for public. Under her skirts, she wore a light-weight trouser that made swimming possible.
Stepping out from under a tree, Molly tilted her face to the sunlight and soaked up the warmth. Her face had a tendency to burn, but a few moments wouldn’t hurt any, and it was so nice. She held that way for a moment before looking back at Rena. It was very uncertain how this morning was going to go. The water was a lovely and wonderful thing, but if Rena got herself too worked up over her fears, she’d never realize it.
