What my husband announced recently is true; I am pregnant. I am both excited and terrified. And I sincerely hope that it is not traditional in all of your cultures to make jokes about eating babies, fake or otherwise, when congratulating people on a pregnancy.

Otherwise, I'm afraid my delicate sensibilities on the subject are going to offend many of you, and the next seven (ish) months are going to be very unpleasant.

Um. Not sure how to say this, since I don't know everyone here all that well, but I figure that I know enough of you to make an announcement, because Katniss said "Tell people before you explode" because I'm pretty sure I'll explode if I keep it in any more:

Katniss and me, we're expecting a baby.

And we're just at the point where we're allowed to start telling people. [...] We just lost some of our closest friends, and I know we more or less keep to ourselves unless you really love cake and stop by to see me at Nothing Batter (hi), but ... that's what's going on. And we're excited.

Is it wrong of me to want to stay here?

WHEN: Early July? A while ago, I forget the exact date we meant for this one.
WHERE: A stretch of woods in Eastern Mass (I forget exactly which ones, oops)
WHAT: Gale and Katniss go poking around in the woods a couple towns over and find a hunting cabin whose owner died via monster. They talk about ethics and home stuff and Gale’s job. It ends well.

I've had a small table at the farmer's market for a little over a month now, but my garden has suddenly decided to produce everything in abundance. Not to give away a gardener's secret, but I suspect it may have something to do with my new bird eating the insects and scaring away the larger creatures. This weekend, I'll have quite a spread of various vegetables and herbs, and a lovely harvest of strawberries. I'll also have a number of jars of honey from the apiary in my backyard.

And in the spirit of the markets at home, I like to bargain and trade. I know that isn't the custom in this world, but if it is something you're comfortable with, you should feel free to make me an offer.

I would like to state for public record that there is nothing dirty about my beard. My beard is gorgeous. And sexy. And manly. And not gross.

There's a very large, purple rat in my backyard, and it's taunting my cat. These strange little creatures aren't poisonous, I hope? Because he's likely to kill it and eat it, if he can.

It is official: we have four baby jackalopes at Honnleath Farm (two male and two female). This should be the last litter, Maker be praised, as Tabitha is slated to be fixed as promptly as possible.

I would like to find homes for all of them; thus far, only one has been claimed. They should be weaned in six weeks or so. If you would like to visit them in the meantime, let me know.

I've only just learned that it's Father's Day today, and it's a real shame that I only just discovered this, because I would have said something sooner! I'm sorry for bragging, but I'm not really sorry, because my son has the most amazing father in the world. (I'm not at all biased.) I'm sure all of the husbands and fathers here are wonderful and lovely, but here's my favorite:

I've just realized that tomorrow, I'll have been here a whole month. I don't know where the time has gone. And I'm still not entirely used to this world, but as long as there continues to be a quiet corner of it where I can just [...] live, I can't really complain.

I do worry about the people who actually live here, though. They don't really understand what's going on around them, do they? I don't know if I really believe the decision to keep them in the dark was made with their best interests in mind. They can't protect themselves from things they don't know about.
