I read back
I've read a lot of books
It's probably

You know. Sometimes it can just be hard to tell what's real versus what lie this room is trying to sell at any given moment. But I think in this instance I'm going to go ahead and call bullshit on this whole setting. No offense, you all seem like really nice made-up people, but fuck you all. I'm going to get back to my scheduled mission of burning a motherfucker down.

To be fair, it is pretty weird to suddenly turn up here.

Oh, it's incredibly weird, but honestly, the Capitol is more than capable of pulling something like this. The difference in universes is a bit harder to explain, so I'm stumped there.

Alternate universes were.... mostly theoretical back home but not too big a jump to accept. The ghost line is actually weirder to me.

The alternate universe part is confusing to her but not me, could be something completely different for you.

Yeah, could be.

That's the line that's keeping all of us here, right? Haymitch and Ani were telling me about it when I arrived.

Yeah. Not even just an invisible wall, that would make some sense, but apparently your mind separates from your body when you go through it. Not something I'm keen to try myself.

Okay, really don't go near the ghost line, noted.

Anything else I should know?

Vampires and possibly ghosts at night, sea scorpions by the lake. The hedge maze in the middle of town turned up overnight and may or may not be suspicious.

I was warned about the vampires and lobsters, but nothing about sea scorpions. I'd say it's suspicious, it turning up like that.

Sometimes it's really difficult not to think the Capitol is behind this, but with this many people not knowing Panem, I don't think the charade could kept up for this long.

The sea scorpions are what everyone's calling lobsters. They're semi-related but not the same thing, sea scorpions are more dangerous. People hear lobsters and think dinner.

I feel like the whole thing is too complex a system to be completely artificially created. I've seen the computer games my nephews play, they basically all have glitches. No one's managed to clip through a wall or anything here.

Oh, okay. I've never actually had lobster. I did try fish once, I think it was salmon? It wasn't bad.

It would take a lot of power, you're right.

Salmon's pretty good. My family's got a seafood business so I've eaten a lot of it.

Anyone who could manage it would be incomprehensibly powerful compared to us, I think. I'm more inclined to think it's real, though some parts of it might be manipulated somehow.

Really? My family ran a sweet shop.

I feel safer here than I do back home, so I'm going to go with that it's real, even if I don't understand the reasoning for being here.

Nice. Though I think I'd get sick of sugary things more easily than seafood. Having a family business in general is good though, you learn a lot from just being around it.

Everyone deserves somewhere they feel safe.

We didn't get to have a lot of it ourselves, but sometimes my dad would sneak a treat for my sister and I. I did learn a lot, most people in Twelve are minors, and that's our main resource.

I agree.

Delacroix's a big fishing town. Well. Not big. Very, very small, actually. It was a little overwhelming going to Air Force basic training when I'd only ever left to do day trips to New Orleans.

Does the air smell like the ocean? It sounds a lot like District Four, it's a major fishing industry.

What's the Air Force?

It does.

It's a branch of the military that deals with aerial operations. I was pararescue, the guys that jump out of planes to do search and rescue and medical work in the field.

That must be nice, I've only been to Four a few times, but there was always something calming about how the air smelled.

Oh, that sounds like you've done a lot of good for people. I hope

I ended up with a houseboat here somehow and it's good having that same smell.

I try to, at least.

I bet! How did you get a houseboat here? Not that I don't mind living at the Pickman House, I'm really lucky that someone was kind enough to let me stay there.

That's good, our military back home was less about helping people and more about keeping the Capitol in control.
