I read back
I've read a lot of books
It's probably

You know. Sometimes it can just be hard to tell what's real versus what lie this room is trying to sell at any given moment. But I think in this instance I'm going to go ahead and call bullshit on this whole setting. No offense, you all seem like really nice made-up people, but fuck you all. I'm going to get back to my scheduled mission of burning a motherfucker down.

I ended up with a houseboat here somehow and it's good having that same smell.

I try to, at least.

I bet! How did you get a houseboat here? Not that I don't mind living at the Pickman House, I'm really lucky that someone was kind enough to let me stay there.

That's good, our military back home was less about helping people and more about keeping the Capitol in control.

Same way people are getting jobs. Though it seems like I'm the only one it's happened to so far, as far as I know everyone else is still at the House.

Yeah, I can imagine that. Honestly our military doesn't exactly have the best record but at least being pararescue I didn't have to do anything too shitty myself. Unfortunately the military's also one of the best ways to get a better education if you don't have family money, I've been able to send a lot of money home over the years because of it.

That's handy!

Incredible, you had to spend money to get an education? Once we're old enough, most people start working, we're not a wealthy district and one part of 12 is in extreme poverty, so most of us have to work too keep food on the table. I lived in the merchant area, where the shops are located, we try and trade as much as we could.

You have to spend a lot of money to get an education past high school. Before that public school is supposed to be free but there's usually fees for some things because funding is based on the property taxes of the area, so schools in poor areas have hardly any money.

That sounds familiar. We were never in extreme poverty, especially with the business, but we've always been cash-poor and the whole area's not very well off. Mostly we make it work by everyone looking out for each other.

I see! We attended school until we're 18, but there's nothing past that. We're not allowed to work in the mines until we're 18, though it's not uncommon to find other jobs so people can help support their families.

That's a nice thought, people looking out for each other. I wish that was easier to do back home.
