Three key quotes that everyone should know and take to heart. Because there are far to many people who think themselves smart, or 'wise', on this island, yet close themselves off to learning anything new about anyone or anything.

"The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool."
-William Shakespeare

“To know that you do not know is the best. To pretend to know when you do not know is a disease.”
-Lao-Tzu

"The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing."
-Socrates

They all three say close to the same thing. And all three men knew what they said to be true about themselves.

My question is, are you going to die the fool? Or will you become wise before you die?

Actually you're one of the people I'm asking, when I asked the question. Your jackassery proves which of the two you are right now.

Hmm, that's not very wise. What you know of me fits into a thimble, and still has space to move around.

But it is a common thing to make assumptions about people, which I find highly amusing, as it is the very thing you have relentlessly spoken against with our stubborn immortal population.

Therefore, pot meet kettle. You may call yourself black.

And do you think the same about yourself? Oft I find when looking through a glass, there is a reflection showing me myself.

Do you consider yourself wiser than these purported others?

I don't consider myself wise, and I am constantly seeking out something new about someone. What has me beating my head against the wall is when I find out that there is nothing good to be learned, or that anything good that should be will never be learned by me. Or anyone else for that matter.

But is there a value on things learned? What is good or bad and who are we to decide the worth of knowledge? Is not all knowledge good because it inherently teaches?

It's better to remain silent and thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

That's been attributed to Mark Twain but I'm not completely sure he said it.

Then how do people learn if they do not speak? Is it better to remain a fool in ignorance, or speak and be taught?

It's simply a plea for people who consider themselves wise to open up their minds, and stop shutting doors. Or realize the attempt to open one door doesn't mean they have to slam another shut after setting fire to the bridge behind it less than a month after the bridge had been built.

I don't consider myself wise or important, I'm just trailer trash from south Alabama. But I'm just... Running into a brick wall while trying to do right by other people. It's hard not to just write the 'brick walls' off as a lost cause, and knowing they'll be gone tomorrow. Tomorrow being any day that isn't today, rather than... You're smart I don't know why I'm explaining that part.

I might contract a wall with a bunch of good quotes on it. You've been around a long time, haven't you Mister Gray? Would you mind helping me collect a few?

My favorites. "Everyone is stupid, it's just the level of stupidity that's in question." And
