Three key quotes that everyone should know and take to heart. Because there are far to many people who think themselves smart, or 'wise', on this island, yet close themselves off to learning anything new about anyone or anything.

"The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool."
-William Shakespeare

“To know that you do not know is the best. To pretend to know when you do not know is a disease.”
-Lao-Tzu

"The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing."
-Socrates

They all three say close to the same thing. And all three men knew what they said to be true about themselves.

My question is, are you going to die the fool? Or will you become wise before you die?

I don't know. But you can tell from what he said that he was a dick. He posed big questions, but rarely made the attempt to answer any himself. Establishing that you don't know anything may be useful, but it's not particularly useful on its own. It doesn't help people. He didn't seek knowledge, or enlightenment. Everything he did was just.. argument for argument's sake. He was a critical thinker, a great debater, a great arguer. But I think Democritus with his bullshit atomic theory actually cared more about answering big questions that Socrates did.

It helped me, I think. It put me in my place when I was at an age where kids think they know everything. My psyche teacher made me write a 5000 word essay on it. Which proved two things, at twelve years old I knew nothing about anything, and absolutely nothing about myself.

I was a smartass that refused to take anything in. Some would argue that twelve was a little young to be taking a Psyche class. Learning about Socrates and Freud, and other great minds was all part of that. Hell you were part of it too. Well not psyche class, but some of the others.
