Okay, so I won't get caught up in the religion vs. government status of it all, but I don't think your Dad is going to expect you to go out and get a 9-to-5, and Uncle Sam can't legally make you start paying taxes.

You have the time to take things one at a time, like starting small. Being an adult is about learning what you can handle and going from there. Maybe plants aren't your thing, but if you want to learn how to take care of them, you can do your research or ask for help. Math problems? There are tutors (or your very smart Dad).

Bite sizes. Not whole meals.

See, I don't think you're really in a place to be objective about this, but just know things aren't nearly as dire for your future as you currently think. If you won't listen to your random neighbor, then try to hear it from your family at least.
