Awareness Night: Fundraiser for St. Mungo's

• Created to mimic the feel of many architectural and artistic designs around the world, both magical and muggle alike, the International Wizarding Museum serves as more of a beacon of tolerance than any other place in Wizarding Europe. The point of the museum and gallery was to display that talent (and taste) is a universal concept that trascends blood barriers. Though the museum is only known of my those of wizarding association, it has generally been well-received by those stemming from muggle families, or knowledgeable of the muggle world.
• Its collection features galleries of either original or replicas of artifacts or other artwork created by both magical and muggle artists. Anything that might potentially be in danger of disappearing likely has its replica on display. Security around these objects will be at max levels, whether they're the real or fake version.
• As this event is later in the evening, there is no formalized sit down dinner. There are, however, four large tables of assorted foods (everyone can find something they like!), and a full dining area to sit down to eat and chat in. Some of the snack foods are heavy enough to constitute as a meal all on their own, but the fourth table is nothing more than an expansive dessert bar.
• On the opposite side of the room from the dining is a full bar, though there are waiters rushing around everywhere with champagne to keep guests happy as well. Bartenders and waiters have been instructed to keep a sharp eye on guests, and have been giving the right to refuse more drinks to anyone they might thing has gone over their limit.
• The press is here! They have been instructed to be subtle and not force too much attention to anyone that doesn't want it but don't be surprised if you end up in a photo or two!
• Designed to mimic the Hall of Mirrors in Herrenchiemsee Castle, the ballroom is by far one of the most impressive rooms in the building.
• For a reprieve from the social aspects of the party, a few exhibits will be open, though most of the museum is closed off for the evening to keep a controlled eye on guests and events. One "exhibit" that will be open out back though are the world famous gardens, which offer a break from the party and fair amount of solitude for anyone that might need it.
• And of course, since this is a charity event, there are a few discreet but easily located tables set up where guests can go and donate more than what they paid for their tickets, if they so desire. One group, specifically sponsored by the Carrows, will be there with more information on conditions and illness that are less common to those with magical blood. They will also do a short presentation near their booth at 10:00PM/22:00 for anyone interested to know more.
• At midnight, a moment of silence for Charity Burbage will be held in the main ballroom.

Unlike some of her more seriously-minded colleagues, Iona was having a great time. She'd been sticking to non-alcoholic drinks as one of the Aurors on duty, but as of yet had had nothing to do - fingers crossed.

Nodding at Ed with a smile from across the room, she made her way to the food tables and perused what was on offer, deciding if she dared risk anything whilst wearing a white dress.

Pippa Montgomery arrived with her sister when the portkeys activated. Their parents, both healers at St. Mungo's, had disapparated an hour before the event was scheduled to begin. They hadn't told the girls what they were doing, but the twins didn't ask. With instructions to find either Mum or Patrick upon arrival, the girls were left to their own devices to get ready. Pippa had chosen to wear a black dress with red accents. Under normal circumstances, she would have been in something bright, but the black was in deference to the late Professor Burbage.

Upon arriving, the twins quickly found one of their parents and checked in, then they split up. Paulie went to look at the art on display, while Pippa was more interested in the dessert table. She didn't think she could eat enough to make her dress tight, but she'd decided to try anyway. But she would pace herself. With a plate full of chocolate covered strawberries and strawberry shortcake, she made her way to a table that gave her a good view of the door and the dining room. As she passed a distracted waiter with a tray of champagne flutes, she took one before sitting down. She'd just taken a sip of the purloined alcohol when someone near her tsk'd.

How Tonks had let her boss convince her to do this, she had no idea. Formal occasions weren't her thing, but with all of the recent activity, there was no denying that this ball had the potential to be a huge Death Eater target. With such a large portion of the wizarding population there, it made the need for tight security even more important, and so, despite the fact that she would've rather done paperwork all night, she'd gone.

Tonks didn't arrive as herself, of course - no point in being a Metamorphmagus if she didn't get to use her talents every once in a while. Acting as just another guest, she mingled with others, making a point of lingering near some of the highest-risk entrances and exits. If there was going to be an attack, any Dark wizard worth their salt would block those off immediately. Higher casualty rate that way.

Sipping a glass of sparkling juice charmed to look and smell like champagne, she eyed a particularly suspicious-looking wizard lurking near the door, his eyes scanning the crowd. She was on the verge of walking up to him - for an innocuous conversation, of course - when a bubbly woman all but bounced up to him and embraced him. Tonks exhaled and turned back to the crowd. This was going to be a hell of a long evening.

Andromeda couldn't be more pleased. The event was important for St. Mungo's and she couldn't be more appreciative of the Carrows' support. She had spent a while with Ted dancing, but after that felt her duty to mingle with others and talk about the future of St. Mungo's on her shoulders. And Administrative Head, she knew that a lot of possibilities were riding on the event.

Yet, still, the death of Charity Burbage was on her mind. The woman had been a dear friend, and it was difficult to celebrate knowing that one of their own community had died with such questions surrounding her death. It had taken a lot of effort not to examine the body herself, but she knew that it wasn't her place to do so. Instead she'd turned gratefully to Ted, with tears and questions and feelings of guilt that there wasn't more she could do. She had chosen to wear black to the event, as the death felt far to recent.

Taking a small break, she explored the rather expansive dessert table. Ted was sharing a dance with another friend, and she was starting to fill lonely. Strawberry Shortcake could clearly fill that void, and she smiled as she filled her plate with sweet choices. Her hand intercepted another when she reached for a fork, and she drew her own back with a bit of a laugh. "I'm sorry," she smiled, "I'm over-eager to taste this."

After her quick trip around the ballroom and exhibits, seeing who was who and what was what, Ellie found herself back by the food with Laura. There was a plate of the most delicious little quiches, and given that the party was being held by wizards, the plate never seemed to empty.

She dabbed the corners of her mouth daintily with a napkin to remove any crumbs, and then looked around herself again. Everyone looked so beautiful, even the men! Ellie reached over and grabbed Laura's arm periodically, pointing out another gorgeous dress or wonderful hairstyle. She was getting so many ideas for the next time she got to go to a ball like this!

Patrolling the food area. Yep. That’s exactly what she was doing, and anyone that had something to say about that could just kiss her ass. Actually, that was too intimate. They could kiss the bottom of her boot--erm, heel (“stiletto, Rainer!” she could hear her uncle correcting her for days)--for mouthing off.

Yes, currently she was inspecting the hell out of The Best Chocolate Cake, and she regretted fucking nothing as she took her first bite of it. She deserved it, right? Putting up with pompous rich people and motherfucking Death Eaters all night. Former or not, Rainer still lumped them all into the category of ‘Evil Assholes’ forever.

Oh, bloody hell. She didn’t notice the ice cream set up right next to the cake. Okay. ...One scoop. She could fucking handle this without looking like a moron. One scoop and...

Plop. Right on the fucking dress. No shit. It barely missed falling into her tits (which she would’ve been grateful for in this case because at least that was HIDDEN) - oh no, it dripped straight onto the front of her chest, and Rainer was half frowning, half glaring at the defiant sweet threatening to stain her dress. Well. Fuck. Now she looked like a bloody idiot, cake in one hand, fork in the other, large WHITE spot of ice cream on her black dress, resting dead center between both.

Yaxley was bored out of his mind. These frivolous affairs was a waste of his time. He only came for good appearance and to donate to the cause. Spending most of the time in the dining room, sampling the food that was served to see if it was to his liking. He has high standards when it comes to food, and he didn't want to eat just any food that was given.

After what seemed like hours of mingling, with people who approached him didn't really care for, he spotted Dorcas Meadowes, alone; looking out of place. Curious, he started to follow her around, but in a safe distance so it didn't look suspicious.

Flora was having a wonderful evening, despite the obvious, sadder connotations pf the event for her family. Behaving dutifully as her parents expected, bowing her head during the presentation about her brother and his condition, she waited for her father's approving nod before linking arms with Hestia and heading straight for the ballroom.

Once there, the twins enjoyed a vigorous dance together, before the younger twin went in search of drinks. Heading for the side of the dancefloor to rest her feet, she didn't realise straight away that someone approached her as the music changed.

While Lily of course arrived with her husband, she did manage to slip away from him for a time to skirt the ballroom and enjoy the music. She wanted to dance, and she of course had made James promise that he would with her at some point that night, but he was tied up doing Ministry business. She had grown tired of their Quidditch conversation, naturally. She had chosen a flattering violet maternity dress that showed off her six-and-a-half month's pregnant belly, though she'd been sure to wear simple ballet flats and matching dress robes. The flats were for her unfortunately swollen feet.

She hummed and swayed as to the music, smiling at those around her who she knew as they passed by.

Juliette was having a fantastic evening so far. She could even say Jake was being a decent date. Of course, with Jake came the territory of grumbling (mostly about his beard), swearing and in occasional need to go have a smoke. But still, pleasant, none-the-less. Not much bothered her, anyway, as if her tolerance of his attitude wasn't enough.

While he'd gone to have one of his cigarette, Cedric has taken the opportunity for her not to be left alone, and they'd shared a few dances before parting ways. Perfect timing, it seemed, as Jake had just returned and she couldn't help but notice the grumpy expression he wore. Correction, grumpier expression.

"You could try smiling, Jacob."

About an hour after their late arrival, Dedalus leaned in close to Hestia, placed his hand on the small of her back, and whispered in her ear, "Might I ask the future Mrs. Diggle for a dance?" He pulled back just a bit and looked at her with a warm smile on his face.

He had improved significantly since Mary had started giving him private dance lessons for the wedding. But, he wanted to save that surprise for their reception and the first dance, so he was going to have to ham things up a bit. There was, of course, the very real possibility that he'd still trip over his own two feet by accident, even considering he was a better dancer than before.

Dedalus offered his hand to Hestia, as he waited for her to decide if it was worth the risk of getting her feet stepped on.

Dorcas felt awkward. The dress picked out for her by Rainer's Uncle was really quite lovely. It was a beautiful color and complimented her well. Figuring out make up had been difficult, and instead of wearing her up in the end, she simply shortened it with transfiguration magic. She simply couldn't seem to make herself look elegant, and it was massively weird for her to walk around in heels rather than sneakers.

She'd been wandering from room to room with no place to fit in. She felt awkward, and wanted to leave. By now, she'd had a few drinks, and was a little tipsy. She watched people dance and thought about how incredibly alone she felt. Everyone has someone, she thought. Everyone but me.

What. The fuck. Rainer was side-eyeing this little blonde next to her when she actually realized the girl was speaking to her. It wasn’t really a bad thing so much as... She didn’t remotely know who this girl was. And Rainer was massively uncomfortable, and the girl was awkwardly complimenting her and it strangely felt like--

Was she being hit on right now? How old was this kid?

Steeling her gut reaction to tell the girl to fuck off or pull the grumpiest face ever in hopes of intimidating her and scaring her off, Rainer decided it was mildly endearing and sort of... Cut Ellie off mid-sentence. “Where’d you come from, kid?”

Though it was a working night for her, Alice still felt like it was an enchanted evening. The opportunity to dress up and put on make up and feel like a grown adult was rather slim these days. After all, with three kids and two full time jobs as aurors between them (even if Frank would be starting a new post in the fall), it was good to have an evening alone among their set. And despite all the people around her, friend and potential foe alike, it was the handsome man at her side that she was most interested in.

Frank still made her heart pound, and her ears flush when he was near like this (well, especially after the two glasses of wine she'd had). She thought about their time in the attic the other night and flushed-she was a lucky woman. "Frank," she said turning to him, lacing her fingers in his, "I think a break from vigilance is order. Care to take me on a spin around the dance floor?"

Having spent what was so far a lovely evening with his date (and he probably got distracted from conversations by looking at her more than once), Barry excused himself once the presentations were made. Whilst Sarah was chatting to someone about the evening, he sat down at a nearby table and pulled a pen from his pocket, beginning to write a bank draft from his Gringotts account in order to donate.

So far the evening had been less than spectacular. When her date Baxter picked her up at home, Mrs. Perks could barely contain her excitement. Baxter was the son of her one of friends and book club and you could almost see the marital scheming in her eyes.

Sally contemplated wearing the same black dress robes that she had worn to the funeral this morning, but her mother insisted that they were too sad to wear to a nice charity event. So she settled on an simple emerald green cocktail dress with silver shoes.

By the time that Sally and Baxter arrived at the museum, she was already eager to find a way out. Baxter has spent the entire talking about himself, which she felt was rude, but was only made worse by the fact that Baxter was pretty boring. Instead of talking about his job or hobbies or even current events, he just chattered on about things he had purchased and other such vain topics.

The minute she could, Sally snuck away, using the excuse to powder her nose. Her eyes scoured the crowd for someone having an equally miserable time who might be interested in helping her escape.

Gilderoy was fashionably late and looking quite fashionable, dashing and otherwise perfect in his suit. He opted to have no date, as he thought it might be nice to get out and do things without having to nurse some parasite at his side all evening. Plus, it made him look accessible and gave women the impression that they had a chance. When running into such girls (almost immediately upon showing up, might he add), he flashed his best (not that he had a worst) smile at them, taking a photo with one and giving an ever-coveted "good evening" to the other.

After gracing those near the entrance with his presence, Gilderoy headed straight for the spot that was likely to have to most "good" press: the donation booths, of course. And he donated, at least though any good will that might have accompanied the gesture would be sucked out by the fact that he (subtly) waited for when his photo could be taken while he did such a generous act.

Once all of that was done with, Gilderoy was left to his own devices for a bit before he'd inevitably be sucked into the social obligations of photos with various other high-society people. Oh, how difficult it was to be him sometimes.

The dining room had little appeal for Lorcan, he couldn't really enjoy most of the food there and there was only so much flavourless wine he could swallow without getting bored. He did a little mingling and paused for a couple of photos before heading towards the real object of interest - the exhibits and donation booth. Naturally Lorcan made a very large donation, afterall it was due to St Mungo's that he had managed to survive his ordeal and come out only half a monster.

After making his donation, Lorcan approached a case exhibiting a very elaborate antique dagger that was reputed to be curse. Interested, he leaned over to read the card detailing the history, but he had barely read the first line when his enhanced hearing picked up someone approaching and he straightened, turning to see who was coming to see him - a fan, a friend or something else?

The night was still young, but already Eric was slightly restless and in the mood to do something he probably shouldn't. With that in mind, he distracted an ancient Ministry colleague with a curious (and completedly faked) query as to whether the Minister had just entered the room, patted his suit pocket to check for his smokes, and headed out to the garden.

He chose a quiet spot away from the doors to pull out one of the cigarettes, lighting it in Muggle fashion with a lighter. Replacing the pack and lighter in his jacket, he took a long drag and sighed, looking up into the night sky as he breathed out the smoke.
