Awareness Night: Fundraiser for St. Mungo's

[for more information about what this event is all about, click here.]

• Created to mimic the feel of many architectural and artistic designs around the world, both magical and muggle alike, the International Wizarding Museum serves as more of a beacon of tolerance than any other place in Wizarding Europe. The point of the museum and gallery was to display that talent (and taste) is a universal concept that trascends blood barriers. Though the museum is only known of my those of wizarding association, it has generally been well-received by those stemming from muggle families, or knowledgeable of the muggle world.
• Its collection features galleries of either original or replicas of artifacts or other artwork created by both magical and muggle artists. Anything that might potentially be in danger of disappearing likely has its replica on display. Security around these objects will be at max levels, whether they're the real or fake version.
• As this event is later in the evening, there is no formalized sit down dinner. There are, however, four large tables of assorted foods (everyone can find something they like!), and a full dining area to sit down to eat and chat in. Some of the snack foods are heavy enough to constitute as a meal all on their own, but the fourth table is nothing more than an expansive dessert bar.
• On the opposite side of the room from the dining is a full bar, though there are waiters rushing around everywhere with champagne to keep guests happy as well. Bartenders and waiters have been instructed to keep a sharp eye on guests, and have been giving the right to refuse more drinks to anyone they might thing has gone over their limit.
• The press is here! They have been instructed to be subtle and not force too much attention to anyone that doesn't want it but don't be surprised if you end up in a photo or two!
• Designed to mimic the Hall of Mirrors in Herrenchiemsee Castle, the ballroom is by far one of the most impressive rooms in the building.
• For a reprieve from the social aspects of the party, a few exhibits will be open, though most of the museum is closed off for the evening to keep a controlled eye on guests and events. One "exhibit" that will be open out back though are the world famous gardens, which offer a break from the party and fair amount of solitude for anyone that might need it.
• And of course, since this is a charity event, there are a few discreet but easily located tables set up where guests can go and donate more than what they paid for their tickets, if they so desire. One group, specifically sponsored by the Carrows, will be there with more information on conditions and illness that are less common to those with magical blood. They will also do a short presentation near their booth at 10:00PM/22:00 for anyone interested to know more.
• At midnight, a moment of silence for Charity Burbage will be held in the main ballroom.

The party was definitely something to feature Juliette in her element. Just as much as she could be alone and traveling as just as happy, she loved getting dressed up and mingling and it was for a lovely cause. She’d naturally donated a hefty sum of money, had a few dances, and was now perched on the balcony that lead out to the gardens. The chatter of the party just a few feet away from her buzzed on, but it was dulled and the breeze was cool and nice and relaxing. And of course, the glass of wine in her hand surely helped relax her as well.

Truth be told, Juliette just needed a moment away from things. A question had come up from an acquaintance, and had her thinking about things she’d rather not have been thinking about. And luckily, Jacob was momentarily distracted enough that she was able to slip outside and be alone to collect her thoughts.

With a soft sigh, Jules place the glass on the stone rail near the stairs that lead out to the garden, and leaned against it, back facing the party, gaze directed out toward the expansive gardens that lined the back of the museum. Were she a more predictable sort of girl, she’d have loved to have such a large, elegant home. But as is was, she found her own home charming, and had her own, albeit much smaller garden to tend to when she felt like it.

Gardens were a natural place for Antonin to gravitate to. As a man with a distinct interest in gardening, it was indeed relaxing to be amongst the plants he most understood. Roses in particular were his favorite, followed by hibiscus. There was a natural, elegant beauty to them that he adored. But that aside, the air was fresh compared to the stuffiness of the halls for the fundraiser, and the company outside more quiet and peaceful away from the gossip.

Antonin approached the stairs leading down into the gardens, but paused midway as his dark eyes passed over a woman in black, appraising her silently.

"Good evening," he said, approaching her. "You are well?" It was a poor sight indeed to see a woman alone, especially one so elegant. And it was dangerous.

It would be wrong to say Juliette was completely unaware that someone was approaching so much as the fact that she wasn’t paying much attention to who it was. Were it someone she knew, they’d probably have made their presence known sooner, which meant they’d likely either pass by and continue on into the gardens or linger around and enjoy the silence.

Except this time, Juliette was wrong, and whoever had joined her had spoken up after all. At first, she only glanced toward him, but upon seeing who it was, decided it would be better off to have her entire body facing him. As she turned, she rested her side against the railing, fingers closing around the stem of her glass of wine but not yet lifting it for a sip.

“I am,” she replied with a bit of a smile. “Are you enjoying yourself? Or are you out here because you’re not.”

Antonin nodded at her response, a faint motion of his head to acknowledge her statement. He stepped closer, though allowed her her personal space as he was sometimes not wont to do. He could be invasive without intention, but there were moments when it occurred to him not to make someone uncomfortable. He appraised the woman again, wondering vaguely if and where he had seen her before. She was remarkably beautiful, with glittering eyes and a pleasant smile.

He wondered, too, what it would feel like to touch her hair. Such lovely rivulets of sable locks.

Antonin canted his head a fraction to the left, and glanced back toward the doors he had just exited through. "Yes," he replied easily, "though it is.. very uncomfortable. For heat," he touched the lapels of his coat, to emphasize his distaste of the stuffiness. "I thought to take the walk, for this gardens .. very beautiful."

Juliette had to smile at that, a small laugh of somewhat endeared amusement escaping as Antonin gestured to his coat. “I can see how that would get uncomfortable, but it suits you well.” And it did. In any case, not many men could effectively wear white to such an event and not look completely ridiculous to her, so whether she was wary of him or not, Jules could commend good taste when she spotted it.

Glancing out toward the gardens as he mentioned them, she nodded her very faint agreement. “They’re quite lovely.” Having been here once before, she took a few moments to recall her particular favorite gardens. “Once you get to the fountain, just there--” Jules gestured out to the fountain, sitting only a short distance from where they stood now, “A left would take you to the rose gardens. They eventually cross into the orchids, as well, If I remember correctly. I loved them both last time I visited.”

Antonin looked out toward the gardens, imagining the brush of nature so like the caressing touch of a woman. Roses, they were his favorite flowers. All of their red splendor symbolized so much tragedy, romance and simple beauty. He adored them. His eyes passed over her once more, and he extended his arm in offering of her to take it.

"Would you desire to walk with me? Once through garden." For a man that was widowed, Antonin spent a lot of time around women. For different purposes, yes. But, it was a rare moment to seek company for the sake of company alone; the endeavor was dangerous no less, but Antonin fought back his desires with an iron will.

There was the smallest bit of temptation to take his arm and go wandering through the gardens. They were lovely, and at night they held this odd bit of mystery that she enjoyed. And yet, all the same, Juliette had a number of reasons and warning in her mind that steered her clear of taking his arm.

Instead, she smiled. A soft, pleasant smile and lifted her glass from the balcony. “I would love to, but I have a date inside who might wonder what happened to me.” In truth, it’d probably be more like Jacob was getting more and more grumpy with all the people around him by the moment. To the point where he’d probably just snap at some poor innocent bystander.

Juliette held out her hand, intending to shake as not to be rude in her refusal. “Enjoy them, though, Mr. …?” She knew who he was, but it was fair to give him time to introduce himself to her before addressing him by his name.

A faint smile flickered over Antonin's face and he inclined his head, acknowledging her refusal. It was mildly disappointing, but probably for the best that they part ways. Antonin took her hand firmly into his own, then delicately brought it to his lips for a soft kiss. His fingers lingered for a second longer than necessary on her hand then dropped away.

"Dolohov," he said, "I am called Antonin Dolohov. It is pleasure." He nodded his head curtly once more, "Enjoy yourself," and then he turned away and sauntered down the steps to enter the garden paths. He would have liked to remain with the woman, whose name he had not asked, but he was left with only fantasy as he meandered down the rows of roses. He wondered what her hair smelled like, if it felt like silk.. what it would be like to watch her die. Thoughts flicked through his head, while his eyes traveled over the brilliant flowers surrounding him in peaceful serenity.
