Awareness Night: Fundraiser for St. Mungo's

[for more information about what this event is all about, click here.]

• Created to mimic the feel of many architectural and artistic designs around the world, both magical and muggle alike, the International Wizarding Museum serves as more of a beacon of tolerance than any other place in Wizarding Europe. The point of the museum and gallery was to display that talent (and taste) is a universal concept that trascends blood barriers. Though the museum is only known of my those of wizarding association, it has generally been well-received by those stemming from muggle families, or knowledgeable of the muggle world.
• Its collection features galleries of either original or replicas of artifacts or other artwork created by both magical and muggle artists. Anything that might potentially be in danger of disappearing likely has its replica on display. Security around these objects will be at max levels, whether they're the real or fake version.
• As this event is later in the evening, there is no formalized sit down dinner. There are, however, four large tables of assorted foods (everyone can find something they like!), and a full dining area to sit down to eat and chat in. Some of the snack foods are heavy enough to constitute as a meal all on their own, but the fourth table is nothing more than an expansive dessert bar.
• On the opposite side of the room from the dining is a full bar, though there are waiters rushing around everywhere with champagne to keep guests happy as well. Bartenders and waiters have been instructed to keep a sharp eye on guests, and have been giving the right to refuse more drinks to anyone they might thing has gone over their limit.
• The press is here! They have been instructed to be subtle and not force too much attention to anyone that doesn't want it but don't be surprised if you end up in a photo or two!
• Designed to mimic the Hall of Mirrors in Herrenchiemsee Castle, the ballroom is by far one of the most impressive rooms in the building.
• For a reprieve from the social aspects of the party, a few exhibits will be open, though most of the museum is closed off for the evening to keep a controlled eye on guests and events. One "exhibit" that will be open out back though are the world famous gardens, which offer a break from the party and fair amount of solitude for anyone that might need it.
• And of course, since this is a charity event, there are a few discreet but easily located tables set up where guests can go and donate more than what they paid for their tickets, if they so desire. One group, specifically sponsored by the Carrows, will be there with more information on conditions and illness that are less common to those with magical blood. They will also do a short presentation near their booth at 10:00PM/22:00 for anyone interested to know more.
• At midnight, a moment of silence for Charity Burbage will be held in the main ballroom.

Rodolphus and Lily

Her first thought at feeling a hand on her shoulder was her husband, but the touch was wrong and she stepped away as she turned, unable to hide her surprise when she saw that it was Rodolphus Lestrange. She straightened and put two hands protectively on her belly as she did so.

With her chin set, she looked at him. "And I believe I said you'd have to clear that with my husband, Mr. Lestrange," she returned.

He gave her an even look. Rodolphus was an accomplished liar, though he'd venture to say that Lily Potter knew her husband rather better than Rodolphus did. Still, it certainly couldn't hurt to try. And where lies failed, flattery generally won.

"Ahh, we conversed earlier, and he claims so long as I return you in one piece he saw no objections. And as you are looking quite lovely this evening, I would be loath to have it otherwise. Shall we then?" he asked, holding his hands out expectantly, an even expression on his face.

He was always looking for prey, especially ones his wife would enjoy.

Lily didn't believe for a moment that James had said it was okay for Rodolphus Lestrange to dance with her. When she had brought it up to him, he'd gone all red in the face and sputtered a few times before she laughed and said not to worry, that she wasn't planning on dancing with him even if he asked. Of course, James had also said that he was going to stick to her side like glue all evening, and he wasn't.

They were in a room full of people though, and Lily certainly could handle herself. "Well, I suppose one dance couldn't hurt," she said carefully, looking him dead in the eyes to ensure he knew that she wasn't about to back down or let him do whatever it was he wanted.

If he noticed a flash in her eyes that betrayed that she knew he was lying he certainly wouldn't have acknowledged it. He smiled and made a curt bow before taking her hand and leading her to the dance floor. He placed his other hand carefully on her lower back and relaxed as he swung her onto the dance floor rather grandly. He was a rather good dancer, he would be the first to admit, and for the moment he let the pleasure of moving across the dance floor take him over, especially so he slightly ignored his companion.

"You seem rather happy," he started, after a moment of silence.

Lily wasn't brilliant on the dance floor, but she was fairly good, especially when compared with her husband, who sometimes still trod on her feet. She glided along with Rodolphus, settling her hand on the very edge of his shoulder to steady herself. As they began their dance, she looked anywhere but at him.

When he spoke, she turned to look at him, her back straight. "Why wouldn't I be?"

She had stiffened in his arms, which of course on one hand gave him pleasure (he didn't exactly want her happy), and yet annoyed him. He didn't want her to leave before he could learn a bit more. He wasn't sure what he was looking forward to most, but he did just like to learn what he could and see what would prove most useful.

"Oh, seems like many don't enjoy this stage of pregnancy. Or so I have heard. You seem positively glowing. A mother again after so many years. How delightful."

Lily pursed her lips gently, not angrily or even to a point where she would look overly annoyed, and nodded once at him. "It's the last few weeks that are the worst," she said off-handedly. That, she thought, remembering her awful time of it with Harry at the end when she just wanted him out, and the beginning. Because she'd had so many beginnings that didn't pan out, that were painful both physically and emotionally.

Rodolphus had a thought, and one he couldn't suppress from running over in his mind. He closed his eyes a moment and pictured the woman in his arms falling down a flight of stairs, the disgusting child she carried rid of. It was a pleasant enough thought, he'd have to tell Bella about it. He wasn't sure that Lily Potter was worth being the next. She wasn't important enough. But she would be on the list, he thought, smiling a genteel smile at his dancing companion.

"Dangerous, at your age, is it not?"

If Lily had known what her dancing partner was thinking, she would have stopped right there and walked away. But as far as she could tell, he was being quite cordial, polite, not-quite-nice even, and she was giving him the benefit of the doubt. For now. After all, as she thought before, they were in a crowded room, and Rodolphus Lestrange didn't come across to her as stupid at all.

"Hmn? The pregnancy? I suppose, in some ways, but we have a very qualified team of Healers here at St. Mungo's to take care of that, don't we?"
