Having been dismissed by her father, Mary made her way out to the stables. She wanted to inform William Stafford that she would be leaving in a few weeks time and that he needed to plan an itinerary. It would take a full day or so to cover the distance between Hever and London; luckily this time Mary was not pregnant. The hallboy had pointed her towards the stable and she found Stafford there, brushing a mare to the point that her coat was gleaming.
Stepping forward, hands clasped in front of her, Mary cleared her throat slightly; just enough to let Stafford know there was someone waiting to talk to him.

Mary had been enjoying her rest and recovery in the countryside. She didn't envy Anne winning the King's attention. It was hard enough to keep Henry interested for long, let alone try what Anne was doing and roust his wife of twenty years from her firmly entrenched position. But Stafford had been kind, taking her on rides and just generally making sure she was in high spirits and being looked after.
Of course she should have known the peace wouldn't last forever. Her husband was no doubt eager to have his wife back and Mary couldn't say she was entirely surprised to see her father arrive and summon her to the study. She took a moment to straighten her headdress before she moved into the room, curtseying. "Father," she murmured. Look, it's the good daughter who does as she's told.

Anne had been in the great hall, standing in a corner having a conversation her brother. It seemed that nothing was a secret at court, and if her father knew what had happened between herself and the King, then of course her brother knew. George. Once she had trusted him with all her secrets, but now it seemed there was no one she could trust. He would just share them with everyone else.
They were discussing family business, though Anne had begged George to talk about something else because she was nervous that any moment she would be summoned to the King's chambers and she had no idea what she was doing to do. She didn't want to give him everything, not yet anyway. Her goal was to keep him focused on her, and to hold his interests. If she gave in too quickly, he would tired of her just as quickly, but she feared if she waited too long, he would also loose insterest. However, she was right. It wasn't long before a servant approached her and quietly asked she follow him to the King's chambers.
Anne nodded, said good night to her brother, and followed the servant. When they arrived at the King's rooms, the two guards at the doors opened them without a word. Anne's heart was racing, but she tried to remain calm and continued walking in. She was shown to the King, who standing by the fire dressed in fir robes. The servant bowed and then took his leave. Anne stood there for a moment before stepping a little closer before she dropped into a curtsy. "You're Majesty," she said softly, hoping her voice didn't sound as shaky as she thought it did. "You wanted to see me."

Where: Anne's rooms at the palace.
With dinner only a few hours away, and knowing that some time after that the King would send a messenger to bring her to his chambers, Anne was in rooms nearly panicing. She'd had her maid dress her in everything in her wardrobe, and she'd taken everything off again, tossing it on the floor or on her bed. There were clothes and jewlery everywhere, and Anne had finally thrown her maid out in a fit of anger. Nothing seemed like the right thing. If the bodice was cut to low, she feared she would seem immodest. If it was too high, she would seem out of fashion and too virginal.
So, she was pacing her rooms, dressed in little more than her chesmise, under skirts and corsett. Deep down, she knew it wasn't really finding the right dress that was the problem. It was the knowledge that she would be alone with the King tonight, and he was expecting her to let him take her to his bed and make love to her. It wasn't even really the act of sex that worried her, though she was a virgin. It was the unknow of what would happen afterwards. Would everyone talk and whisper about her behind her back? Would they compare her with Mary, and call her the next 'Great Prostitute'? What if he didn't like her enough to invite her back, and what if he tired of her too quickly?
She paced the length of the room and back again, stopping to look out the window without really seeing anything, only to start pacing again. She was so lost in her thoughts, that she didn't hear the door open or the footsteps that announced she had company. She has too much to worry about.
