A walk in the park |
[24 Jul 2009|10:26pm] |
Who: Charles Brandon (Open to Margaret) What: An early morning Where: Hampton Court
“Your Highness” Charles called out for the Princess. She was walking alone, without her ladies in waiting. He gathered all his arrows, and grabbed his bow, before he left the archery court and ran to join her. “Good morning, Madame”
He studied her, to see if he could decide what kind of mood she was in. If he did wise to escape before they started talking, or if he could offer to escort her.
“You are walking alone” Charles threw his bow over the shoulder, and walked beside her. She looked beautiful, as always. He was dressed in a black jacket and black pants, his sporting outfit. Archery was good for him, it made him think of something else than his duties, but seeing her all alone had called him back to reality “ Is that really appropriate for a woman of your rank?”

The year is 1525, King Henry VIII is on the throne of England, Catherine of Aragon is Queen, and the religion of the land is Catholisim. It is a time of peace but neighboring monarchs are always eager for the glory of war. The winds of change are blowing through Europe; the Renaissance is sweeping from Italy northward, the Reformation sweeping outward from Germany. Though England has thus far managed to escape the most radical movements that come with them, she won't be able to stay unchanged forever.
However, politics and matters of state weren't on anyone's mind at the moment. The King was holding a jousting tournament and the entire court and villagers had all turned out to watch the excitment. While everyone was cheering on the brave knights, for the court, it was more of a see and be seen sort of event. It was a chance to catch up on gossip, to see which knight had recieved which lady's favor and the usual talk of who had money, who didn't, who was having an affair with whom, etc.
It was a wonderful day to be sure, and before it was over, there was sure to be even more gossip about one thing or another...
