WHO: Mary and William Stafford WHAT: Mary's a widow WHEN: After the sweating sickness kills William Carey WHERE: Hever
Mary had been preparing to leave for Court, per her father's instructions, but the entire world had been put on hold with the appearance of the sweating sickness. As mother to the King's children, Mary had been forbidden to go anywhere near the Court. She still had a bit of sway because of little Catherine and Henry.
It hadn't been very long before the reports started arriving about who exactly had been taken ill, and not long after that that reports started arriving about the dead. William Carey was among them. Unsure of anything now, Mary had gone for a walk in the gardens. It's not like she'd ever truly shared a life with her husband. He'd barely bedded her before the King expressed his interest and the cuckolded husband was pushed to one side. And before a reunion could be staged, he was cut down by disease. It was a strange situation, and, unwilling to put up with any further pitying glances, she'd taken a seat, preferring to stay outside for the moment.
