Hello hello! Does anyone have any recs for products that help with minimizing pores? Mine are the size of small craters and this causes a lot of distress when I try to take selfies.

on baths and skincare! [18th Mar. 2017 • 10:40]

hey, my fellow dudes! so, due to equal parts bitter cold and sad panda-ing throughout the winter, i've really gotten into baths right now as my ritual of self-care. and whereas before, i felt gross about it because Why Sit Around In Your Body Stews, now i'm really feeling positive about it – i can lean back, watch some seeso on my ipad while i get clean, drink a beverage that may or may not be alcoholic depending on my mood, and it gets me all cozy around the bod before sinking into dreamland. bonus: i can wear masks during the first part of just soaking and having my muscles relax, and it's just good stuff. (guys: do you have any recs for a drugstore exfoliating mask that's good? like, i'd love to say that i'm okay for getting something a lil more ulta or sephora-y, but not in the budget right now.)

so, my question for you guys: what's your favorite bath or shower-time products? i've been falling in love with anything dr. teal's lately; specifically, their pink himalayan bubble bath has been my HUGE JAM. there's also these bath truffles sold at my local coop that dissolve into these amazing oils, which kinda got me into the entire bath thing in the first place. ironically, when i was living in minneapolis and near a lush, i hated the idea of a bath – but then again, i was also sharing a bathroom with two other people and the tub was gross, so lmao of course i wasn't about that life. ulta has been shilling these faux bath bombs, but i'm really nervous about anything that might make my skin angry – such is life when you have super sensitive skin and it's getting used to a much drier climate. #yikes

i've also been chasing after a good body wash – dr. bronner's seems to be the ticket, although i've been anxious to shell out $15 for it. (I KNOW. I KNOW!! BEING CHEAP IS REAL.) i think i'm gonna go ahead and do it, though, so if anyone has any scent recommendations, i'm here for 'em. lotion after your bath is also REAL LIFE, and i'm really partial to the vaguely shea butter-y ones – st. ives's has been crushing it for me lately! before i moved, i finally finished my body shop super-duper thick shea butter one, #restinpeace. it would've been so good for this weird itchy patch/rash i had on my ribs this winter!! (from – YOU GUESSED IT – a bubble bath dude i tried that wasn't nice!!)

anyway idk, let's talk about how baths/showers make us nice in the comments?? IF YOU WANT TO, i'm not your mom. and let me know if you want any DIY bath stuff too – one of my favorite books in the whoooole world has an entire section devoted to how baths can make you beautiful all over, and i love it! weirdly, it's on the top shelf of my bookshelf right now and i regret this hugely. but yes. skin! body care! bath time! shower shit! all that jazz, let's talk it out!

Treatyoselves FAVORITE THINGS [24th Nov. 2014 • 12:01]

Because it's the holiday season, I thought it might be fun if everyone who subscribes to the [info]treatyoselves community to do an Oprah-esque "Favorite Things" list to share with others. SADLY, all you get from this post is free reviews, sorry in advance. BUT-- I don't know about you, but I love reading/hearing about what other people really like, both because, well, I LIKE STUFF, and because I can always use ideas as I think about my holiday lists.

SO! I don't really have strict guidelines, but if you've got time and you want to share, comment below with a list of your 5 favorite things, whether they have to do with fashion, cosmetics, apps, music, gadgets, food...whatever. Tell everyone why you love it. And feel free to link up to stuff, if you want. Any price range goes - cheap or expensive, as long as you love it.

Um, thanks for entertaining me with this?! Hopefully everyone else will like it too!

nail care! [3rd Nov. 2014 • 10:34]

hello friends! i've been trying to paint my nails more—i've only done it sporadically for years, partly because i can never find a color i like besides black, and partly because i'm lazy as heck—but i've been consistently plagued by, well, shitty nails. they're brittle, they break easily, as soon as they grow even a quarter of an inch past the fingertip, they almost immediately start to peel and snap at the base of the white edge. i like my nails to have a little length because my fingers are so stubby, so this is a real annoyance for me.

so what i'm wondering is, what do you guys use to take care of your nails? specific polishes/top/base coats? oils or lotions? vitamin supplements? how do you keep them from breaking or growing brittle (if you're able to at all)? any advice is welcome! also just general nail care advice, tbh.

Hair... holders? IDK, it's not product, it's things. Hair things. [27th Jun. 2014 • 20:06]

This is a fast one, but Loren reminded me today that when I was in NYC I loaned/gave people hair ties and everyone marveled over them, and I said I would find the product manufacturer, so I'll put it here in case it helps anyone else!

I use Scunci Evolution hair ties. They come in black, clear, and variety color packs (some bright, some jewel toned, and Loren and Meg have found a pack that is shades of brown which I am coveting from afar). Instead of being elastic covered by nylon thread, they're more like gel with some kind of coating on them. They will not slide out, your hair won't droop down, but unlike using rubber bands, they also won't tangle (much, I do get the occasional solo hair caught) or snag when taking them out. I have very long, thick, heavy hair and one will hold a bun with no trouble; they also stay in when I sleep with my hair braided. They work fine for me when my hair is wet/damp too, but will leave a crease in that case. I don't find them losing their stretch quite as much as ordinary elastics, and while they do still snap sometimes, you can often spot when it's coming because you can see a little nick/mar in the gel. When I see that happening, sometimes I just pull them apart intentionally because it's fun to feel like the Hulk for a split second, and it's better than having them snap when you're out and don't have another to replace it. >.>

I also use Goody Spin Pins for several hairstyles, as they do the job of about 5-10 pins each. I think like regular bobby pins, they come in various metallic hues to suit most hair colors, and also some with little gemstone type decorations at the ends? You twist your hair into whatever style you like, and then spin these in around an "edge," catching hair from near your scalp and hair from within the style both. You don't have to do the usual catch a bit of hair, turn at an angle, and stake tactic, so it pulls a little less on your head, too. I use them for buns, braided buns, kind of a modified french twist, and once in a pinch they held a regular braid for about half an hour of holding mostly still. To take them out, just twist them in the opposite direction.

Ta-da, two easy hair accessory thingies. You can tell I'm really technical about this. Share your fav accessories if you want to! ♥

i recently ordered a bunch of stuff on recommendation of a few friends & boredom, so here's my haul. mostly asian beauty products (seriously, i made the switch a few months ago & my skin has never been clearer/prettier!!! plus super-soft, super-moisturized, i have a somewhat even skin tone and no gross flakes on my forehead and in between my eyebrows for the first time ever? WOW, i will probably make a post detailing my regime in pursuit of Perfect Skin especially because i have sensitive skin so i have had a lot of mishaps [looking at you, black soap that burned my cheeks off]) & some other things, but i don't know. maybe someone has some input here.

cut for big pictures. )

super excited to use these, negl.

i've also been looking at etsy as a new place to buy cosmetics too! do you guys have any favorite etsy shops i should definitely check out? or "indie" cosmetics/skincare shops in general, ha ha ha, i really just typed that.

So I have the problem of letting mascara go to waste because I have the typical pin-straight Asian eyelashes tucked under the eyelid that have to be curled first or they won't be visible, but I can't seem to find an eyelash curler that will work on my flat face/eye sockets :| :| :|

I know Shiseido and shu uemura are the most recommended ones and I've tried Shiseido, but it kept pinching the corners of my eyelids while not doing much. Might the shu emura one be better, for anyone who's tried both? What about other brands, both Western or Asian? I admit I might just not be using mine properly as well.

I've been itching to make a post like this ever since I saw one on Jezebel. So, what I wanna know is: what are your favorite grooming products? Whether it's for your face, your body, your nails, or your hair, what are your vanity drawer's most valuable players? Anything from high-end cosmetics to homemade concoctions to creative usages of old standbys fair game. If it really, really works — and you'd never dare to go on vacation without it — I wanna know what it is.

Please fill out the following (and feel free to leave some lines blank if it's not applicable or you're not sure):
What is it?
How much does it cost? How long does it last you?
Why do you love it?
Who would you recommend it to?

Y'all had such useful things to say about bras, and I've been meaning to ask for a while, so... What the hell.

Does anyone have any good tips/products for getting rid of blackheads? After a long adolescence of terrible skin, I've finally gotten cleared up... Except for the blackheads on my nose. You can't really see them, but I know. I know. I've tried scrubs, diy treatments, and pore strips to no avail.

Currently I cleanse with Burt's Bees Soap Bark and Camomile Cleanser or Shea Terra Rose Hips and Black Soap Cleanser a few times a week and moisturize with Lush Enzymion. Help a sister out, beauty experts D:

hey guys

so i'm an idiot and i accidentally bought foundation that doesn't match my skintone. as in i put it on and my face is actually a different color. oops. it's barely used and i figured it shouldn't go to waste so i was wondering if anyone else wants it??? it's kat von d's lock it powder foundation in 54, which is sort of a medium beige. i am an idiot because i am probably like a 49 or 52 so this is way too dark. here's a couple pics so you can see what the color looks like and see what condition the foundation's in.

pics under here ) and i can obviously take more pics if needed, just ask

if anybody wants it, i'll mail it to you with a cleaned sponge and everything. like i said, it's barely used. the foundation itself is awesome, not cakey or anything and it stays on really well. totally full coverage so if you want something sheer and light, this is not it. i'm probably gonna buy it in a much lighter shade so it's not like it's the product itself that sucks so much as i'm colorblind.

Well, sort of! I'm looking for a new scent (or two) and am at this point pretty disheartened because I can only really test two or three on any one given day and there is nothing out there for me. Which is clearly not true, and so any recommendations to investigate further based on the following would be received with genuine delight:

-> If it's available in the UK I'll probably be able to track it down, and online places (international or otherwise) that do samples are a-okay
-> I don't have a bucket of money to throw at the problem, but I'm treating this as an investment purchase
-> I'm not a fan of florals (on me), or anything too powdery
-> I tend to like citrus & chypre best, oriental sometimes
-> I'm not really looking to suckerpunch anyone with scent...

For those of us who like nail polish, Zoya is doing another one of their promotions! You can get 50% off for 6-24 bottles of polish. (The idea is that then you send in an equal number of old (non-Zoya) polishes that you want to get rid of and they'll dispose of them safely, but you don't actually have to send in any polish to get the discount.)

Does anyone have suggestions for good Zoya polishes? I don't own ANY but I want to!

SPEAKING OF NAIL POLISH, has anybody ever gotten a shellac manicure? I'm thinking about getting one before I go on vacation for two weeks so I don't have to deal with chipped polish.

HELLO EVERYONE THIS IS MY FIRST POST. Predictably it will be mostly be about Asian skin products.

I've been using Clean & Clear Deep Action Cleanser for my face and it didn't really work out well. I also tried the Face Shop's Toner and moisturiser but I don't think it made much of a difference either. Worst of all, they were pretty expensive :|

(Sidenote: I've been using Murad's Skin Perfecting Primer and it's also really good and lasts long throughout the day. It's too bad it's so freaking expensive for such a small bottle)

SO I DECIDED TO CHANGE TO SKINFOOD!

THEY HAVE THE CUTEST PACKAGING ;_; )
