So, I tried the oil cleansing method.
I read about it last week when I noticed my pores were DISGUSTING!!! I think it's from a primer I was using to make my skin "matte" all day, but I also think my skin was breaking out because of it. I have since stopping using it, although it did work to keep me from being shiny. My regular routine is wash before bed, but on a nighttime cream, wash in the morning, put on more moisturizer - because I like in a godforsaken dry-as-fuck climate now, and my face literally needs moistruizer immediately. Make up I wear - clinique foundation, pressed powder (drug store brands), bit of bronzer (because along with dry as fuck, we live in the arctic and all winter I forgot what sun was), mascara, eye liner, and some concealer when I remember. The main reason I wear foundation is because my skin is uneven, red all over, and I have acne. Now, I read about the oil cleansing method and everyone says it helps with moisture, acne, and makes your skin better. SO, OF COURSE!! Why not!!! That sounds like my dream. I occasionally use acne spot treatment, but I do find it very drying. So, I said sure why not. I bought castor oil and was going to do it with olive oil before I found this site and got scared. I chose sunflower oil, and that's it because I'm cheap and also skeptical. I mixed it in my hand because I didn't buy a container!!! I read someone does 25% castor oil, so that's what I was aiming for. I have pictures, and lol please do no judge I make weird faces when trying to make sure my phone is steady!! At this point intent is to run the oil into my face for a while until it feels like enough time. I left my hot water tap running while I did this... mostly because I do not pay utilities. I read someone say she boils water until it's hot enough, this sounds much greener. I should have got better close ups, and I may in the future. AFTER I didn't take pictures during because I was full of oil. I let the I wasn't immediately dying for thirst on my skin, so I put the oil away. Then I felt dry. So I put my soothing aloe night cream on, even though all the sites told me to put some oil on. Still not sure how I feel about this. It did dissolve my makeup well, specifically my eyeliner because that's what I really noticed. So plus points for cleaning. NEXT MORNING Generally my face looks okay after using the aloe night cream. I will continue trying this - although I'm not sure I will do it every night??? I am still confused on how often you are meant to do this. For me it's less about cleaning my pores and more about moisturizing my skin and making it look nice. If that means I use oil instead of acne products, well sure!! Sign me up. I will say that my skin does not feel greasy at the moment, which it usually does. It drives me nuts because if I don't use moisturizer, my skin hates me and gets greasy, and if I do use moisturizer my skin likes me but still gets greasy. Apparently, oil cleansing stops this. So that would be nice. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS JUST DAY 1, SO IDK. They say it takes your skin time to get used to it, and some people say they break out, so those also are deciding factors on whether or not I will continue. But I wanted to share! My pores don't seem to be terrible different, but I probably did not steam the greatest either? Or they aren't dirty and just suck. |
