Damn, damn, damn. It should have been you.

Katie wasn't crushed. She was determined. Determined to forget all about the text messages, the night, Trisha, Woody, everything. And the best way she knew was to go to Georgie. She hadn't seen him in a while. The miscarriage, the entire phase of not wanting to have sex, it had somewhat prevented her from attaching herself to him. Instead she'd gone to others, returned favors and gotten access to Mr White and weed. She didn't do anything heavier, though she had before. She was too busy with school, Woody and her family. She didn't have to ask the boys for alcohol; it was so easy finding her mother's stash. It made her sad. She wished her mother didn't have to drink away her life.

Little Tornado, they called her. Bane of the trailer park. It was somewhat true. She brought with her a lot of pain. And nobody wanted to hear about it. So she swirled. All of the mixtures of substances made her cry, or laugh. It depended on the situation. Sometimes she just lingered. That was her favorite. Moments of nothingness.

She'd told Georgie that she'd had an abortion. It had been easier. She didn't want him to know the truth, about scraping their baby out of her womb because she didn't eat, did too many illegal substances, the list was endless. He was happy to see her. Happy in his own way. He welcomed her inside. It was a mess. Pizza cartons lay everywhere, beer bottles, homebrew, and the scent of marijuana. Spoons. Straws. The usual. It made her feel calm. She kissed him. He didn't exactly return the kiss but he didn't pull away either. Immediately he started touching her. She pushed him away.

"I want something first." She eyed little plastic bag on the table. Mr White. He looked at her.

"Would that make you happy, sweetheart?" His voice was the same. Not taunting. Almost loving. Like he'd missed her.

"Shut up and let me have some of that weed." He lent her his joint. She inhaled the smoke, held it in her lungs, then let it escape her body through her nose. She was somewhat of an expert.

She didn't know how it happened. All she could think was: Make it go faster. Baby go faster. Make it go twice the speed of you and me.

She woke up. Clothes were scattered all over the floor. Her naked body revealed bones and the tiniest hint of body fat. Her breasts refused to shrink no matter how hard she tried. They weren't big, but they weren't concave either. Georgie sat in the corner, puffing on a joint. He was trashed. She tried to feel what she'd done, but she couldn't. Her body was numb. She craved cocaine. That wasn't a drug of the trailer trash that she was; that was what all the rich and famous people did. She could hardly ever get her hands on it these days. She vaguely remembered snorting at school during Freshman year but that was a long time ago.

"Hey babe" Georgie said, looking at her with clouded eyes. She laughed. A completely dry laugh, no joy whatsoever. It held sadness in it.

"Hey" she said. And wondered if Woody was doing the same thing to Trisha that she'd done without actually remembering it. She knew though. There was no way for them to get back together. Even if he by some miracle hadn't been with Trisha yet, she'd cheated. She'd slipped. But at least Georgie didn't make any remarks about her black eye.

you know this is still the simple answer - mark z. danielewski

He wasn't sure what to think of his and Katie's text message conversation. He knew, very much so, that he was nothing but a coward. If he hadn't been, he would have gone to see Katie instead. But he hadn't and from what he could tell, him and Katie were basically over. Just like that. Which was kind of disturbing for him, because they dated for all of two months or something.

Woody never thought he was that guy. The kind that would only really date someone for a couple months and just not be able to keep it going. But, he supposed he was. Although - his last relationship had lasted for several months longer than his and Katie's.

He wasn't even sure what provoked a relationship between him and Katie. They had hardly said two words to each other and than WHAM! Committed relationship.

Woody read the messages again, shaking his head, because he really wasn't sure. All he knew was that there was someone waiting - who wanted him. And who he was kind of sure in that moment he wanted, because at least she had fought for him.

hey, He pounded quickly into his phone, no one's home. wanna come over? ;)

No one even knew him and Trisha had each others numbers. They discussed long ago that any contact between them would be under aliases. Which is why less than a minute later, a message from 'Faith' popped up on his screen.

guessing you got rid of katie? good job. i'll be right there. you'd better be ready for me.

Sometimes her messages made Woody feel so dirty. He knew it would just be sex and they'd cuddle afterward. But sometimes she seemed almost like a prostitue in how she spoke to him. He shrugged.

you know i will be.

Katie was avoiding him. It was obvious. She had basically ran from his house that night he met her parents. And Trisha was to blame. Trisha hadn't been around either, which confused him even more. He supposed since his sister went back to school, Trisha found she didn't have an excuse to come around his house.

In a way, he was also avoiding Katie. Every time he saw her in the hallways, he would duck into a classroom or the restroom. He hadn't called. Or really made any point to contact her. He knew she was pissed. But, surely, she didn't think everything that occurred that night was his fault.

He knew he needed to at least contact her. She deserved an I'm sorry, if nothing else.

Woody fished his cell phone from his pocket. He was a coward. He quickly typed out a message and hit send before he could change his mind.

Sunny hadn't seen Katie in a week or so, but she knew how happy Katie had been with Woody, and she had wanted to know why her friend's spirit had changed so abruptly. So after school she had cornered her and insisted that they hang out together.

Sunny felt like she was a neglectful friend.

"What's the matter," she asked Katie softly, as they walked out of the school. "Is everything okay?"

Sunny Spots Logan

Sunny had had to go to the A&P to get some random things -- the days that she had had to do the grocery shopping for her family had passed, but she still needed snacks -- and she had sort of been at least a little bit hoping to not run into Logan.

It wasn't like she didn't want to see him, it was more she didn't know how to deal with him. For all her trouble back in Palo, Sunny hadn't actually known anyone who had been pregnant or who had gotten a girl pregnant. It was just awkward.

Still, there he was, and she didn't want to be rude, so she smiled nervously at him. He was her friend after all.

"Hey," she said, softly. "How are you?"

"What do you think of this?" Mary Anne asked, holding up a light blue babydoll dress. She was already eyeing a pair of black leggings to wear underneath on a rack a few over.

She grinned over at Sunny, "I kinda like it...but I don't know if I can pull it off."

They had decided to head over to the mall after school that day and look for some clothes that spoke Spring out to them.

Dave didn't do dating. In fact, it had been a couple of years since any girl interested him enough to date. Since his mother and father's nasty divorce, Dave basically called off all feelings regarding women, not wanting to get involved in anything, until he knew he was mature enough.

He thought back to the last person he had dated, a girl named Skylar - she was nice, pretty, and fun. But after a year and some odd months of dating, Dave realized he didn't really want to be with her and upon approaching her with that fact, she shared a similar feeling, and that was the end of that.

But Dori, well Dori seemed different. And while he was under no circumstances wanting to rush a relationship, she intrigued him, and he did want to get to know her more.

Which is how he found himself on her doorstep - a single white rose, tied with a satin royal blue ribbon - in hand. While he wouldn't have typically brought a flower on a semi-informal (so he thought) date - he figured she would appreciate the gesture; and if not her - then her parents would have to. And if he was going to be interrogated by parents - he had to have a weapon.

He rang the bell, bringing his hands behind his back so he could surprise her.

Your family is my family and my family... is not yours.

Katie was to meet Woody's family. She knew it. She had been invited over to his house and they would be there. To her dismay. She hated meeting families, it Always made hers seem so inadequate. She didn't have much to show when people came to her house, other than her unbelievably cute Little sister. But Olivia were usually on play dates these days; Katie had arranged it that way. She didn't want her sister with him. She wanted her to be safe.

Either way. She stood outside of Woody's house. "Ring the door bell, ring the door bell." And she did. "Oh stupid, why did you do it?!"

For her birthday Heather decided to have a small taco party. She had left notes in the lockers of her friends and friend types earlier in the week to invite them and now it was time to get the party started. She had a variety of taco ingredients and everyone could have the style of taco they wanted. There was also ingredients for nachos if people so desired.

Heather fiddled with the bracelet she found in her locker earlier as the guests started to show up. She added it to her party outfit as soon as she got home earlier in the afternoon. Heather was determined to have the best birthday she could have. You did only turn eighteen once.

Dave looked at the contents of his locker, carefully taking out the books he would need for his homework that night. He skillfully slid a couple into his backpack before slamming his locker shut. He zipped up his bag and threw it over his shoulder, turning around at the same time. He spied Dori not far from him at her own locker and smiled somewhat slyly.

He snuck up to her and nudged her playfully in the side, "Looks like you are packing up every book you own."

I wanna know what love is. I want you to show me.

Katie had waited. A long time, for her. She couldn't remember a relationship that she'd entered without intimate relations. She and Woody had kissed, long and deeply, and there had been some upper body activity but she hadn't let him get near her, in fear of getting too Close. She didn't want Another baby lost. And she was scared to let somebody touch her, just because the last time she'd been touched it had been by a doctor who scraped out her dead baby. No, not baby. Fetus. But baby. Oh, she was confused. But tonight was the night. She could feel it.

"Hey Wood?" she said softly.

"Mariah!" Dave exclaimed, knocking on the door he knew was hers.

He was going to go crazy thinking about his sister. He knew his mom was working a lot before he left, but he hoped she didn't forget that Dave wasn't home and that Janey couldn't be left by herself. He had tried to make arrangements for her to stay at friends houses as much as possible, but he wasn't sure how that was working. In all the previous years Dave had made sure that Janey went to their aunt's house in New Hampshire, and missed school the week he was at the Lodge, but this year his aunt was overseas and Dave was anxious.

He bit his lip as he waited for Mariah to open the door.

After leaving Brock and Shannon, Mia was so angry she couldn't even think straight. She wanted to yell and scream, she wanted to punch something, she wanted to run out to the main road and hitch a ride back to Stoneybrook. She couldn't do any of those things, though, not without serious consequences. She told herself Brock wasn't worth all the trouble.

Storming up and down the hallways had given her a chance to cool down a little, but she was still really p*ssed. She lit up a cigarette, not even caring that she wasn't allowed to do that indoors. Down at the other end of the hallway she was standing in, she saw Howie entering a room. His own, she supposed. It was then that she knew exactly how she wanted to get rid of some of her frustration. Rushing to get to the door before it closed all the way, she made it just in time to stick her foot in the opening. Using her hand to slam the door all the way open, she was pleased to see that no one else was in the room. Zeroing in on Howie, she slowly eyed him up and down. "You up for some fun?" She was pretty sure from the way she was undressing him with her eyes, he'd know what she meant.

[info]shankilbourne

Although the lodge was a rather large place, it was still difficult for Shannon and Bock to find places to sneak away to when they wanted to be alone. They had to seize every opportunity they came across. Finding themselves in a completely deserted area of a hallway one evening, Shannon pulled Brock behind a large plastic plant in the corner next to the snack machine. She'd intended for this rendezvous to be rather short, but — like most times they were together — they got a little carried away.

It wasn't until Shannon happened to open her eyes and glance behind Brock that she even noticed they weren't alone anymore. There was Mia, standing a few feet away. She didn't say anything, but she did not look happy. Tapping Brock's shoulder to get his attention, Shannon nodded in Mia's direction. She felt sort of bad. Even though Brock had told Mia about them, Shannon wasn't one to go deliberately flaunting their relationship in front of her.

"Ready?" Mary Anne asked, as she approached Cary in the lobby. They had agreed earlier that day, that it would be the perfect night to go out onto the grounds for a snowball fight. As the student's got older, their curfews got later and they had a solid, good three hours before they were required to be in their rooms. They were supposed to be there earlier, for added rest for their team games, but by the latest one a.m. was okay also.

She was a little nervous and rubbed her navy blue mitten-clad hands together for a second. She knew it wasn't a date - at least not in Cary's eyes - but she was also hoping that he liked her, even if just a little.

The lobby was brightly lit, and they opened the big doors leading into it, the chill hitting their faces. It had begun to snow again and quite fiercely, but it didn't matter to them very much and they quickly made their way towards the outer banks of the property.
