August Crack Broom Recs

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Ironically, I was the Crack_Broom flier for Snape/Lupin in August. To close out our reccing special event, I thought I'd link my recs here. Instead of boring you with full re-posts, I'll just add the links with a few words. I tried to pull off a "retro" theme to go with our Retro Fest, but I'm not sure how successful I was. Full commentaries are over at the CB.

(PS, the queue for Snape/Lupin reccers is getting short. If you liked having a taste of reccing and want to try 4 in a month, you can sign up for reccing Snape/Lupin at the Crack Broom here)

Recs 'o the month, some of which you saw here already, but what the heck, here's my take on them:

It was inspiring to see a month of recs. Thank you, especially our newbies and lurkers, for taking on the challenge! Remember, you can make recs on the community at any time, so there's no reason for the fun to end. Both the IJ and LJ communities have a "recs" tag for you to use. And if anyone wants to do weekly recs as a feature on the community, please jump right on in!

Some of my favorite snupin stories...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
There are so many wonderful snupin stories and pictures it is really difficult to select just a few. I'm going to focus on two authors who seem to me to exemplify the best of snupin, and also two recently posted/completed stories you might not have had the chance to read yet.

RECS - Size Doesn't Matter: From Drabble to Novel

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Yours by [info]red_day_dawning (scroll down, almost at the bottom)
Author's summary:"The past was a trap without any relief."
Warnings: Character death, implied BDSM.
Word count:~100
Why you should read this: If grief, devastation and loss have ever been crammed into 100 words and still work, touch, hurt, this drabble shows how it is done. "Yours" won first prize in the 2008 New Year's Eve drabble contest, and with good reason.

Blood Moon by [info]lordhellebore
Author's summary: "In a grim world ruled by the Dark Lord, Snape and Lupin spiral downwards into darkness. Losing themselves, each other is all they have."
Warnings: character death, graphic violence
Word count:~13,000
Why you should read this: You don't like dark-fic? No, neither do I. But this is what it looks like when a brilliant author gives us the "happy ending", dark side version. This fic explores development into corruption in an absolutely stunning way. It explains how people who are essentially aiming to do good are caught up in the dark, and even then try to fight it, not for their own sakes, but for those who are entangled in their web. The detached distance the story is told with works extraordinarily well. Lord Hellebore is one of the best Snupin writers in fandom, and she, if any, dares to explore the dark corners of the ship. Like many of her other fics, the story is both dark and then, surprisingly shows us some kind of light in the dark. I cannot say how much I love her writing, and this fic is so good.

Ghost in the Machine by [info]arionrhod
Author's summary: "There is no better mecha pilot than the angry, bitter Severus Snape - except, perhaps, for his new mechanic, Remus Lupin. Both men are hiding something, and fighting against themselves as much as each other. Thrown together by circumstance and the threat of looming war, can they move past their differences and to foil the plans of an evil corporation, achieve victory, and perhaps find there is a far more satisfying touch than that of cold steel?"
Warnings: None
Word count:~58,000
Why you should read this: Come on... Snape as a mecha pilot? Just look at Backstreet Boy's "Larger than Life" video and then go read... Smeeeexy!!! No, basically you should read this because Arionrhod as usual does a good job. Characterisation is spot on, the world-building very good and believeable and she makes good use of the prompt she's been given for this 2008 SnuSa novel. The story is exciting and with a good flow. A pleasure to read, really. AU sci-fi romance at its best. Now someone just needs to do art for the fic inspired by Backstreet's setup (and possibly also by hot dark-haired goatee-Backstreet guy). Snape as mecha pilot... *drools*

A Rec for August!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Hello there! My turn to make a rec, and so I'm going to recommend one of my all time faves from Snupin Santas past:

Title: Your Heart is Full of Unwashed Socks
Author: [info]scribbulus_ink
Rating: PG
Summary: Remus wants his friends and loved ones to come together for a special meal on Christmas Day in the spirit of peace on earth and good will to men. Severus knows better.
Word Count: ~7,100
Why you should read this fic: This is one of the funniest fics I've ever read, a true delight! If you like your Remus sweet and your Severus snarkier-than-life, this is the fic for you!
Excerpt:
Severus boggled at him, too shocked to speak for a good thirty seconds. "Good God, you did not invite Tonks."

"Of course, I did. We have a connection -- a history -- and we're still friends," Remus explained patiently, still stroking Severus' back. "This is her first Christmas without her parents, and I didn't think it would be good for her to be alone."

"I don't care if she's alone on Christmas! She campaigned for me to receive the death penalty!"

"Now, Severus. Everyone was a little overwrought during your trial."

"This was last week."

Go forth, read, enjoy! :D

recs: 3 art, 2 fic

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I'm jumping in on the recs before the deadline...

ART
"Are You Nervous?" by Aleoninc - hard R, NWS
A sketch alive with emotion and meaning. (This one is locked at the lupin_snape comm.)

"Disenchanted" set by Nepenth - PG
Enchanting and hilarious take on the fairy tale challenge, spoofing Disney's movie.

"St Mungo's" by skittykat - PG
Ambiguous sequence that speaks eloquently to the frustration of hospital visits - and leaves the viewer to choose between triumph and tragedy.

FIC
Two series from the Moonshadow archive that I go back and read over and over:

The first is The "Dreams and Nightmares" sequence by musigneus - NC17, warnings for non-con and violence.
The Moonshadow search has them listed out of order - begin with "A Short Measure" and follow the sequels.
This one is drama, adventure and love story, and both Remus and Severus come out of it pretty battered. But the build up just makes the final sequence, "All Good Things," that much more moving.

Second, Tea and Chocolate by Cruisedirector and Ashinae
A quiet but serious series on the power of love in a post-OotP universe. One of my go-to comfort reads.

Recs!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I'm back for my second round!

The Sad

Shapes in a Shadowbox (by [info]eponis)
(PG, 5,200 words)
One story about Snape and Lupin: two men and a world all to themselves.
Remus tells a story, and we're all sucked.

Variations on the Half-Blood Prince (by [info]schemingreader and [info]busaikko)
(PG, 700 words?)
Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the two shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God’s great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth
When two strong men stand face to face, tho’ they come from the ends of the earth.

Note: I always make a note to rec this to anyone looking to read something Snape/Lupin. This was posted a few weeks (days?) after The Half-Blood Prince came out. Imagine all the tension. Then imagine this.

The Ballad Spell (by [info]schemingreader)
(PG)
Remus marries Tonks, and Severus comes to bid him farewell and nevermore go there.
Note: This has two other stories (linked from the fic) but it stands alone. I remember shedding tears over this.

The Happy

Of All Sad Words of Tongue Or Pen (by [info]rowen_r)
(PG, 5,000 words, hints of other pairings but not much)
Note: (CP'ed from my rec in [info]crack_broom.) If you're looking for a wonderful and heartfelt post-Deathly Hallows fic, this is it. "Of All Sad Words..." has the right amount of snark, intelligence, bitterness, and happiness: all the myriad of feelings you, as a Harry Potter reader, encountered during the seven books at one point or another. For me, this fic is like closing a book. It's like taking that first step to the end of a journey. It's like finally coming home.

Please Define Sloth (by [info]nimrod_9)
(NC-17, 100 words)
Note: Amazing and perfect hotness in just 100 words! Unf, 100 words...mmmm...

Pluma Draco (by [info]lupin_fanatic)
(PG)
Note: Remus and Severus are in an established relationship, but don't really talk about their pasts...until now.

Auld Acquaintance be Forgot (by [info]fedzgurl91)
(PG-13, 13,000 words)
Lily Evans-Potter has gotten tired of being a spectator in the lives of her loved ones. Aimed with a plan and her own cunning and determination, she’s granted one month to end the loneliness she’s been watching her two best friends suffer from – by trying to bring them together before the New Year.
Note: I cheated! This was a gift to me for Snupin Santa. Every time I need a laugh, I just read this.

The One Where We See Snape and Lupin in their Element and Listen to PUNK MUSIC

How Severus Snape (Didn't) Kill Nymphadora Tonks (by [info]pixychelle)
(PG-13, 8650 words, het + slash)
Clearly, she needed to die. Severus knew several ways to make that happen. Of course he did.
Note: It's such a small mention, but I love the story of how Severus is jealous of Tonks, Tonks is kind-of-manipulative, and Remus is just embarrassed. Also? Severus and Tonks bond over The Clash.

Never Could See (by [info]overdoseonfreud)
(PG)
Note: This might be sad, but also hopeful. Severus tries to connect to Remus through modern music. There's a lot going on at the background, but mostly, it's Severus dealing with his loneliness.

Part Time Punks (art) (by [info]ebonyserpent)
(PG)
Note: Written for [info]maelipstick's wonderful, beautiful (unfortunately, unfinished) fic Part Time Punks in which Severus, Remus, and Lily find themselves at the awkward age of rebellion. In this scene, Lily has escaped from her sister's wedding, wearing a horrid bridesmaid dress. She, Lupin, and Snape traverse London together. Snape and Lupin make out while she sleeps in Picadilly Circus. And then came the beautiful lines:

"Lupin was nibbling on his earlobes. The action was completely ridiculous, more scratchy and wet than arousing, but still he followed every movement of Lupin’s hips with his own, keeping them locked together where it felt best. He turned his head to dissuade Lupin from this foolish activity and realised Evans was propped up on her right arm watching them.

She looked a bit like she might want to cry, but she laughed when she realised he was looking."

Okay, that might have been a double rec because I can't help it. I LOVE THIS FIC.

Nevermind the Buzzcocks (by [info]isildurs_babe)
(R, 24,000 words)
A story in which we see the world of late 70’s Manchester, and young Severus and Remus’ adoration and emulation of the Sex Pistols. We see this world in two ways. Through Severus’ eyes in the main body of the story and the ‘crackier’ side, through Remus’ various attempts at pulp fiction writing. His work though often clichéd, crosses many genres: Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Western, Horror and Crime Noir Fiction. He hopes you will forgive him, he’s still learning y’know.
Note: THIS FIC IS GOLD. Funny without being overblown, and there's the feeling of that era lingering in your brain that makes it right. Severus and Remus are hilarious, but--more importantly, so very much themselves as teenagers going through a rebellious stage.

Rec: As you can see....

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
My rec is one hour early.. However, as I will be out of town for all of the 27th, I thought it best to be early, rather then late.

So, firstly an apology to the Mods, if this brings about any issues, and now, on to my rec (hopefully it has not been posted yet!!!!)

Title: The Game
Author: Anne Line
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: 'Kink, D's, roleplay, public wanking, humiliation, orgasm denial, chan, references to youngish chan.' I also must warn for Lucius/Snape/Lupin threesome later on in the fiction.

Why I am recc'ing this fic: Well, it's obvious to people who know me well enough...

I am a total pervert.

I actually read this one recently, and fell in love with it immediately. I usually do not go for Marauder fics, but Snupin BDSM always catches a breath in my throat and it is hard enough to find... So beggars can't be choosers in a situation like this and I took a dive and was thankful I did. Wonderful imagery, subtle bits of irony I smirked at, and an Angstteen!Snape I could not help but love.

Why YOU should read this fic: Because you're a pervert, too.

Have fun..!

Recs!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
It's my turn to rec for the August Rec Event, and since Snupin Santa is underway (and because I've got to get busy printing out the prompts, creating my spreadsheet, and starting to match participants), I thought I'd go back to some of my older Snupin Santa recs to get us in the holiday fest state of mind before all the frantic writing/drawing begins. ;)

On to the recs! )

I could keep going with the recs, because Snupin Santa has produced so much fantastic writing and art every year, but I need to get started on this year!

Old love never dies: Snupin Recs 2005 onwards...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I have two reccing days this month, and I decided that this first one was to be a looking back in time. I simply found all my Snupin recs since 2005. They are here (except for those which have already been recced during the reccing month, although I might have keept one or two). Also sorry I'm a bit late. My apologies.

Long time lurker delurking!

Can't believe we've already had more than 50 recs for this event. I'm fairly certain I'm not duplicating any, my apologies if I am!

Title: Lost Feeling
Author: Minx
Length/Word Count: ~ 10,000
Rating: NC-17
Author's Summary: After Sirius is sent to Azkaban, Remus tries to cope. Eventually Snape helps. Rock ’n roll, drugs, and sex, in that order. Very angsty. First time story. RL/SS (RL/SB implied)

This was the very first Snupin I ever read and stumbled on it while looking for Lupin in the Lost Years stories. I'm not sure why this story sticks so strongly in my mind, but I still occasionally go looking for it, several years after I first read it. This story is one of a long series, the rest of which are not Snupin.

Title: Still Life
Author: The Treacle Tart
Length/Word Count: ~ 8500
Rating: M
Author's Summary: Severus Snape takes some pictures and sees things for the first time.

The second Snupin story I read. It sticks with me due to the vivid imagery. It was very easy for me to see the photographs described by the author.

Excerpt )

Title: Methods of Suicide
Author: jedirita
Length/Word Count: ~ 7000
Rating: PG
Author's Summary: A post-final-battle fic with plenty of H/C and angst (Lupin as the comforter). Snape has little reason left to live accompanied by mental/emotional/physical infirmities, and now the holiday season and everyone else getting on with their lives is making it worse. Lupin is one of few who notices.
Warning: Discussions of suicide

A 2006 Snupin Santa entry that felt all too real. Not a cheerful fic, but ends with hope. The last few paragraphs are some of my favorite writing.

Title: A Troublesome Transition
Author: McKay and Arionrhod
Length/Word Count: ~ 62,000
Rating: PG
Author's Summary: For Severus Snape, death proves not to be the end, but rather a new beginning as he takes on the office of Death, adjusting to his new position with the help of some familiar faces and a ghostly assistant. Pre-slash. Inspired by Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series. This story is a canon-compliant Afterlife story.

A fairly recent offering from McKay and Arionrhod, this pre-slash story is a lot of fun to read and I loved the cameos of the other witches/wizards that are the incarnations.

Finally, I wanted to rec a piece of art. This piece is an illustration from a BLU story that was rec'd earlier this month: The Chemical Wedding of Albrecht Grindlewald.

Title: Art for Chapter 3 of the Chemical Wedding of Albrecht Grindlewald
Artist: Shadowycat
Rating: G

Shadowycat's art is very realistic figures drawn in pencil. (A style I've tried and failed for years to accomplish.) But really strikes me about this piece is all the wonderful detail she put into the piece. Albus, in particular, is very well done.

Mods, please let me know if this entry is missing anything that should be on it. I've never posted here before.

Rec Fest: 3 fics, 2 arts, and a vid

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So hard picking just a couple of things to rec! And I didn't think it was quite in the spirit of the thing to just copy-paste my entire "stuff I have recced or plan to rec on Crack Broom" Word doc, even after removing the ones already recced here this month. So I decided to go for one oldie, one pre-DH, and one post-DH, and only authors who I didn't think had already been recced for something else.

Thus narrowed, I came up with the following:

Title: The Diary
Author: Josan ([info]josanpq)
Length/Word Count: ~8800
Rating: R
Summary: Lupin discovers the skeleton in Snape's closet.
Why everyone should read this: This is a golden oldie from the second round of the Severus Snape Fuh-Q-Fest (2002) that I was surprised to find hadn’t been recced here before. I really like the characterizations of both Severus and Remus, not to mention the creative twists on the werewolf curse and the roots of Snape’s hostility to Lupin.

Excerpt )

Title: Missing, believed dead
Author: [info]tetsubinatu
Length/Word Count: ~3500
Rating: R
Summary: After killing/apparently killing Dumbledore, Snape flees Britain. Dumbledore’s picture reveals the truth. Remus searches for Severus, but how can he find a spy?
Why everyone should read this: The glimpses into their tempestuous past and Remus’ struggles with those memories give this a very real, gritty feel, as does the pre-DH take on what might have happened after Voldemort, both to Snape and Lupin and to the wizarding world.

Excerpt )

Title: Unbroken
Author: [info]innerslytherin
Length/Word Count: ~9100
Rating: PG-13
Summary: If someone swears an unbreakable vow, they cannot die until the vow is completed...
Why everyone should read this: There’s something particularly enjoyable about fics that take a non-canon ship through canon events and shows how they can be interpreted in a different light. This one starts in HBP and continues through and a bit past DH doing exactly that. And, always a bonus, there’s a likable Tonks.

Excerpt )

Narrowing art recs was, if anything, even harder. So I whittled the list by focusing on artists who aren't primarily Snupin artists and a vid.

Title: Fear Makes the Wolf Bigger
Artist: [info]tripperfunster
Rating: G
Summary: When the full moon wanes, Severus seeks out Remus.
Why everyone should see this: The emotion on Snape’s face is heartbreaking, as is the pain and shame conveyed by Lupin’s posture. Often black and white can be stark, but here the artist has used a multitude of grays to surround these two dark-but-not men, and the result is both fitting and compelling.

Title: Emerging
Artist: [info]ponderosa121
Rating: R
Summary: Fantasy Fest short art prompt #26: naked and wet.
Why everyone should see this: The many possible interpretations of what has just happened and what is about to happen, the expressions on both their faces, and the sheer intensity created by the lines and shading make this an amazingly compelling piece.

Title: Glittering Clouds (direct download link here)
Song: Glittering Clouds by Imogen Heap
Vidder: [info]akemia42
Rating: PG-13
Why you chose this piece: I really like the way this vid combines HP and non-HP movie clips to build the story and the clever way it’s made to extend beyond the time frame of HBP despite that movie not even being out at the time it was made.

Rec: The Very Air He Breathed

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Title: The Very Air He Breathed
Author: [info]thetreacletart
Pairing: SS/RL
Rating: R
Summary: “This potion could save lives but it needed to be tested. Severus needed a guinea pig; he simply failed to tell Lupin that he volunteered for duty.”

Originally posted April 2005.

As with one of my previous recs, this story is another of the earliest Snape/Lupin fics that I ever read, and I still enjoy rereading it. It features a Snape with a gleeful, mischievous streak, and there's a hilarious scene early on where he's pranking everyone around him. His character undergoes a major transformation as a result of following Lupin around (without Lupin knowing about it), where all his preconceived notions about the Marauders and his schoolboy years are challenged. This Lupin is tired, haggard and weary, and the tone throughout the story shows the depths of his loneliness, much to Snape's surprise. But even with the slight angst, we get a happy and hopeful ending.

It's classic Snupin, and a great quick read!

Snupin rec event, August 19th

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
(Posting note... I'm having my house painted tomorrow on my scheduled posting day and have to take down my computer, so I'm posting tonight--a few hours early.  :D )
****************************************************************************************************************************************************

Oh, it's been so good to read all the wonderful recs so far.  Some are old favorites, and some are new (*squee*), but all are delicious.  My turn now to share the pleasure by rec'ing the Snape/Lupin fics of [info]dingochow, an under-appreciated author, imo, who deserves lots more attention.  :D   I hope you'll check her out.

The first is a sizzling one-shot AU where Severus is a manga illustrator poised to begin a new story, and decides to re-visit a werewolf character he created (and fantasized about, *mrrrow*) during his student days.  The Secret Sketchbooks of Hebi no Komori is clever, imaginative, IC, and hot! -- nudging up against bestiality without falling into squick, and doing the naughty to your libido.  ;P  Go check it out for the novelty at the very least, but I think you'll end up loving Dingochow's deft hand and brilliant imagination by the end.  (...and her ability to melt your underpants! lol!)

The second, 'Hemlock', or the Beast Within, is a wonderful AU where Lupin, in order to be kept safe from reprisal and revenge after killing Bellatrix LeStrange and destroying the Black library, is magic'd off to muggle America where he translates foreign books into English and edits gay erotica while his magic re-vitalizes.  Enter well-meaning Gryffindors, Snape in animagus form, and quirky and suspiciously familiar OC's, and the stage is set for a clever read.  Again, Dingochow's inventiveness and consummate ability to make the zaniest of premises work, makes this one of my oft read favorites.

The final fic, The Third Attempt, is a Sherlock Holmesian mystery the equal to any by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle ;-) for inventiveness, plot, and suspense.  Then add humor.  Plus... we get magic!   The characters are all very well wrought--perfectly IC, the mystery is meaty and fun, and the dialog is crackin'!  Here's the list of warnings by the author, which gives you the best idea of the story's tenor...

Warning:  wildly AU, Werewolf cliches abound, Mystery cliches abound.  A certain villain goes way over the top.  Snape insists on swanning about wearing a green cravat and being the narrator.  Mad!Harry (off camera).  Also, a threesome.

Hee!  How can you resist???

So that's Dingochow.  Now for a bonus...

Here's an art rec which fits in so well with the Sherlock fic that it could have been made for it.  [info]tbranch's  "Snape, Lupin as Order Spies" has a wonderfully campy tension, and exemplifies Tbranch's inimitable style to perfection.  I just want to hug these two as they throw on the stealth.  God, it makes me smile!

so, I hope you'll give these works a try, and let the author and artist know what you think.

...and if you want to drop me a line as well, I certainly won't mind!  :D

Title: Never More
Author: [info]stasia
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 17,600
Ribbons's summary: Snape is a travel critic. Lupin owns a B&B. Neither knows this about the other, yet.
Why I reread it: among other things, Harry and Ginny are great here.

And, one more for the beach bag: this one has nothing whatsoever to do with travel, but it's simultaneously short (it was written for a timed challenge) and complex. The sort of piece that would go well with a little too much sun and sangria, when one's slightly blurry and discontent and yet hopeful...

Title: Red is the Colour
Author: louiselux
Rating: probably PG
Summary: A Death Eater cocktail party goes horribly wrong for Remus Lupin.

Title: The Willow
Author: Clere [info]immortalautumn
Length/Word Count: 6,480~ words
Pairing: Snape and Lupin
Rating: PG-13
Warning: harsh treatment of werewolves and questions on morality
Author's Website: Fanfiction.net. Her IJ account although there's no memories. She also has one great story not archived anywhere else at the Snupin Santa Annex.
Notes: It's gems like Clere's works that keeps me coming back to Fanfiction.net despite the many times I've been burned. What's lovely about this fic is that it's not slash, but hints at the possibility of a deeper understanding. Clere writes wonderful Snape/Lupin, and this feels like a prologue to a relationship, how you go about understanding someone's past to understand the person himself. (note: This was written before HBP.)

Title: 3 Works on "Horny"
Artist: [info]blue_cage
Pairing: Snape/Lupin (with bonus hint of Harry/Draco in one of the art)
Rating: PG-13
Notes: The first art will blow your brains away, if only for the sheer hotness of Snape-against-the-wall-and-Remus-pinning-him-there. YES, HANDS. I have an obsession!

Title: Oh, Bugger! NOT WORK SAFE
Artist: [info]fanlay
Pairing: Snape/Lupin
Rating: NOT WORK SAFE/NC-17
Warning: nudity
Notes: I have a thing for messy desks, beakers, science, and screw-this-we-must-have-sex-NOW works. GUH.

Title: Possession (two works) NOT WORK SAFE
Artist: [info]fanlay
Pairing: Snape/Lupin
Rating: NOT WORK SAFE/NC-17
Warning: implied bestiality, cocks
Note: There are two arts here and NOT WORK SAFE. I know I'm being redundant, but I just want to be sure. For the Trading Places challenge in this com, she drew this piece to accompany [info]nehalenia's amazingly hot fic, Possession. So, uh, treat this as a double rec.

Also, just for our sanity, I would like to rec all of [info]fanlay's art. Tread carefully and mind the not-work-safe stuff!

And finally, for something short but, strangely enough, packs the punch that only [info]bronze_ribbons can deliver:

Title: Choosing Sides
Author: [info]bronze_ribbons
Length: 100 words
Pairing: Snape, Lupin
Rating: G
Warning: suicide attempt
Notes: This is only 100 words, but it will stun you.

...I need to volunteer for another round because I still have 5 other things I want to rec. It might either horrify or amuse you that I actually had a real crisis choosing! XD

rec: ff.net stories and one old story in LJ PW

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I've read a lot of wonderful stories over the years in this community, but I suck at keeping bookmarks, so I'm going back to old, old fics that I found in ff.net. As far as I know, these three stories are only archived there.

1) A Match with the Moon by Lady Jaida.
Poetry and Snupin; it's one of the best short Snupin stories I've ever read. The best part, I think, of this fic is the pieces of poetry the author has chosen for this unorthodox courtship. Severus is completely self-assured and had this dry sense of humor that just cracks me up. Remus, on the other hand, is outwardly plain but with hidden depths. I always share it with Snupin newbies and I think it hasn't failed to drag more people into the ship. This story was posted in 2002.

2) Home's the Farthest Way by ReeraTheRed.
(Post-2nd war) This is quite different from the usual Snupin in that Remus is turned into a real woman. It's a little disconcerting to read Remus as a 'she' but this gives the reader the sense of unreality that Remus must be feeling. The author provides an interesting insight on how human male and female go about responding to mutual physical attraction. The last chapter is an absolute gem that I keep reading over and over again. The prequel of this story is also a worthwhile read.

3)Salvage What You Can and Softly Whispering I Love You by Snape's Nightie.
(Post 2nd war) The first story deals with the mysterious death of Lucius Malfoy in Azkaban and Severus Snape being the main suspect. This describes the start of Severus and Remus' relationship. The second story continues on their relationship until the end of their lives. It's a long read, but both characters are nicely fleshed out, along with interesting minor characters. The first story does not completely solve the mystery, but wrap up in the second part is worth waiting for.

This last rec is a locked post in the Pervy Werewolf in LJ. I think community membership is open to everyone.

4) Temporary by florahart.
This, I think, was the one short story that convinced me to join the Snape/Lupin (and Pervy Werewolf) community back in 2004. It has one of the best imagery in Snupin that I've read. Remus' search for that something that would give him or his life meaning is deeply touching and, I think, resonates with everyone. It's greatly satisfying how his patience was rewarded in the end.

Rec: Another Kind of Fandom Wank

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Title: Another Kind of Fandom Wank
By: [info]arionrhod and [info]scribbulus_ink
Rated: hard R
Pairing: Snape/Lupin
Word Count: ~40,000 (story only, not counting extras)
Summary: After faking his death and leaving the Wizarding world behind, Severus unwittingly reunites with someone from his past in the most unlikely of places: online in a Blood Bathory fan community.

Two of my favourite Snupin authors, [info]arionrhod and [info]scribbulus_ink, put together an incredible story filled with gleefully wanky Snape (because, really, online and anonymous, of course he'd be a shit disturber) and a wonderful Remus who mods the lj comms Severus has come across.

All in all, a fantastic story from the two writers. The best part though? They set parts of the story online. And then they created lj comms and accounts and a whole fictional series that the story is based around. So it's an HP-crossover with a story that they created that contains wank, fandom, trolling, and everything we love and love to hate about lj and fandom.

The whole thing is epic.

REC: To Keep Calendars in the Absence of Time

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
To Keep Calendars in the Absence of Time by [info]r_grayjoy
Summary: Severus finds that there can be many reasons to keep track of the days, even in a place where time has no meaning.
Rated: NC-17

Post-DH, I've continually struggled with canon vs. AU in Snupin fic, and I know many of you have as well. I love sticking to canon, but after DH, that makes everything rather depressing, right? Well, not necessarily. This amazing fic is an uplifting and deeply romantic post-DH canon compliant story that leaves me full of hope, even though the entire story takes place in the afterlife.
The story begins with Severus finding himself alone and trapped in an afterlife that looks like a bizarre yet oddly normal version of Spinner's End. The opening meditation on his time alone after death is, by itself, an incredible character study. But then, after months there by himself, Remus arrives...
This story is not without its dark, surreal edge, and the writing is moody and lush with a slow build and pace. r_grayjoy does a remarkable job of developing Snape and Lupin as characters who actually grow and change after death. Simply gorgeous.

Art recs

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
This is a massive art rec ! I was planning to rec some of the artists separately but then, considering my chronicle lack of time, I decide to rec of the artistes of my deviantart favourite’s pages (mods, if you consider that I am recing something personal although none of the arts are mine, feel free to delete this message).

Those are all Snupin related arts. Please, take the time to look at them. Even if some must be well known to most of you there are some little gems that never appeared in LJ or IJ (as far as I know at least…). It is the case for example of wandarer3 and I just love what she is doing. My favourite is this one

but don’t miss the other ones!

She has also very nice Snack pieces if you are interest.

PS: if you cannot see some of the arts it is because they are mature materials and therefore you must register to deviantart because you really can’t miss those ;) and it is free! After that you will be able to see everything. It is worst it. Believe me!
