Old love never dies: Snupin Recs 2005 onwards...
I have two reccing days this month, and I decided that this first one was to be a looking back in time. I simply found all my Snupin recs since 2005. They are here (except for those which have already been recced during the reccing month, although I might have keept one or two). Also sorry I'm a bit late. My apologies.
The Adventures of Remus J. Lupin, Aspiring Sex God by snegurochka_lee (Remus/Severus) Author's Summary: Remus has been told he's boring in bed. He sets out on a mission to spice things up. Why you should use time to look at it: Oh damn, how I waited impatiently every day for Lee to post another chapter of lovely, hot, intense LMoM Snupin. And OMG! Charlie. Steaming hot dominant Snape... *fans* If there ever was PWP with plot and hotness, this is the one. *melts* Also, the BDSM in the fic works very, very well. Anyway: Angst, romance, hot sex - and a bit of tongue in cheek. And other places. This fic has it all. Now you go read it. Maybe put a towel on your chair first... ;0)
A Change for the Better by lordhellebore (Snape/Remus) Author's Summary: Having been revealed as a spy, Severus barely survives being tortured by his former master. But, considering the fate he has to suffer, wouldn't it have been better if he had died? Why you should use time to look at it: It is a brutal, harsh story told in a slow pace, in a good language. It is a story that stays in the mind for some time and makes you think. Brilliantly written. Probably the epitome of Hurt/Comfort in a mere 6,000 words. This proves how it is possible to write darkfic and still keep the pairing alive and in love.
To Regain Lost Time by lordhellebore (Snape/Remus) Author's Summary: Remus has been captured and tortured into insanity by Voldemort. Four months after his return, Severus finds out something that turns his whole world upside down. He has been horribly wrong about Remus in the past and has taken away their chance to be happy. Now it's too late - isn't it? Why you should use time to look at it: This is a tender love story about two lonely men, finally finding happiness in the strangest way. It makes sense, the way the relationship between Remus and Severus develops and changes through the story. Characterisation and plot are well done and plausible, making it a very interesting read.
@ ssf-moonshadow.com: Inside the Rain by arionrhod (Snape/Remus) Author's Summary: While in hiding, Severus receives an unexpected visitor. Why you should use time to look at it: This is a classic. Werewolf H/C. What's there not to like? Nevertheless, a classic, delightfully long Remus/Severus with the boys cooped up in a small, desolate house. Usual Arion-quality. A must-read for Snupin H/C romance lovers.
SnuSa Rec: I recommend you go look at Magical Magazine - fake articles about Tonks, Snape and Lupin. Newspapers and agony aunts have never been more entertaining. I do have an idea who did this, and it is just... go read... Magical Magazine: A Snupin Special by blpaintchart.
SnuSa art rec: Also this fabulous, fantastic piece (or rather pieces) of art is worth your time: A long untitled comic featuring Severus/Remus and OMG, Ron/Draco: Untitled by skitty_kat
What Heaven We're In - by schemingreader. Lovely Snupin. Sparse language, good plot, damned hot smexx. Wonderful dialogue. Cross dressing Snape... what more do you want? Summary: Remus Lupin survived the war and is living in Key West, where he decides to indulge in his passion for drag queens. Guess who is a drag queen?
Title: Dark Lanterns Author/Artist: ships_harry Summary: SS/RL: Remus takes his wolf out for a spin down Knockturn way; maybe the wolf takes him. Snape has to find an alternative to teaching to put meat in his belly. Lupin finds himself both attracted to and becoming jealous of Severus' new occupation. My comment: This is the foul-mouthed inner wolf talking, prowling the streets. Lupin is hot, bad, rough and the fic is so well written, with a hint of Film Noir private eye Philip Marlowe to this low-life Lupin. It's hot, it's dirty, and it has Snape in stockings and lacey knickers. GUH! There is art too, brilliant art, but the story outshines it because the visuals in it are... mmmmm!
Title: Jerusalem Author/Artist: busaikko Summary: SS/RL. Post-War AU. Remus wants to have a child; Severus has reservations. My Comment: THIS AUTHOR MADE ME READ MPREG!!! It says all about the quality of the writing. It's disability fic as well, and it is so well done, great language, wonderful interaction between S and R. Read it. Ignore the Mpreg if you hate it, but do try.
Title: Gold Moon Author/Artist: inkgeist Summary: SS/RL. This story was inspired by Celtic and German lore, which is very loosely referenced throughout. My Comment: This is not a fic for just anyone. It is a bit confusing and gains a lot from a second read. It demands an attentive reader, but the reward is worth it. Beautiful language and interesting ideas and mix of magic and history into a strange but catching AU about vikings, magic and wolves.
Title: Not Quite What the Doctor Ordered Author/Artist: arionrhod Summary: AU. Snape is a cranky doctor a la House, Lupin is his patient. Unwillingly to believe there is no cure for the mysterious disease that plagues Lupin every full moon, Snape spends more and more time with his patient and finally succumbs to his flirting. My Comment: SS/RL. Brilliantly written, fluent, romantic, perfect with a snarky Dr Snape, a mischivous patient, Remus, and all what's needed to get a marvellous long lovestory going. Been recced over and over, so here is one more: Read it. Now! Romance at its best, and the writer knows what she's doing. ~40,000 words. Not one too many.
Wetting the Bed by rinsbane Author's Summary: Remus comes to Hogwarts in the summer. Severus decides to make him useful. Why you should use time to look at it: Because it is something as rare as PWP with very good characterisation and a slow build, as well as clever use of a certain kink. Warning: Watersports, golden shower, piss play, improper use of urine. Nothing to misunderstand, right?
@ ssf-moonshadow.com: Torture by arionrhod Author's Summary: Severus enjoys his work very much. Why you should use time to look at it: I have recced this before, and I am willing to do it again. PWP, the Cruciatus used in a S/m session, and Arionrhod's good writing. Is there any way one can not love it? Warning: BDSM
@ ssf-moonshadow.com: You by LookFar Author's Summary: In the late days of the war with Voldemort's legions, Lupin finds himself surprised by his colleague Professor Snape. Why you should use time to look at it: I don't know if this fic is very kinky, but it hit my buttons: almost virginal, snarky Snape, rough, dirty sex for the wrong reasons, almost, but not, dub-con. Also the writing is brilliant, 2nd person is difficult, but this author succeeds beyond expectations.
Strange Allies by FlowersBecomeScreens Summary: Severus and Remus are lovers... or something like that. Severus can't let go, and maybe he will never learn to. Why you should use time to look at it: This short, almost PWP-ish story turns rather painful, braiding with PoA canon in a rather clever way. It works.
Sometimes Broken Things by ldybastet Summary:After Sirius' death Remus needs some time alone. Severus doesn't agree. Why you should use time to look at it: Because the story's slow pace and the insight in how trusting another person can feel like drowning makes a really nice read.
Autumn was made for picnics by the_senjou Summary: Remus and Severus meet for a picnic in a Muggle park. Why you should use time to look at it: Because it is just a scene, but also a bit like a wizarding photo of two men, having picnic on a warm, calm autumn day. I like this because of the mood it creates and because of Senjy's good way with words.
Thirteen Ways by eponis (Sinope) Author's Summary: Facets of a relationship of necessity. Too little is given and too much is wanted, but Lupin and Snape don't have the luxury of new beginnings. Post-OotP. Why you should use time to look at it: Because it is so beautifully written, poetic, painful and intense. One of my all-time favourites. Good writing, really good.
A Sound Like the Dashing of Hope by mieronna (art) and A Sound Like the Dashing of Hope by snegurochka_lee (fic) Author's Summary: A missing scene from HBP, involving a visit to Spinner's End, a voyeuristic Peter Pettigrew, and Lupin's desperate search for atonement. Why you should use time to look at it: Mieronna's art underlines and accompanies Lee's sad story in a perfect way; both pieces are subdued, sad and melancholic. The way they both deal with the raw pain of getting what one doesn't want, or wanting what one can't have is heartbreaking.
