Derek had been practically crawling out of his own skin with the itch to transition. It was a new skill and he hadn't had a lot of time to perfect it or learn to control the urge for it before he'd shown up in this place. Cora had been good at keeping lookout for him down in Brazil when he'd needed to go for a run in the jungle but here, there had been no one and nowhere to go. But now that Cora was here, he had his lookout again. And the gym, well. That was going to have to do. He'd brought a spare outfit and worn an outfit that consisted of a shirt that was too tight and a pair of shorts that were not much better, because he wouldn't miss them too much when they disappeared. The spare was folded neatly on the stack of mats that he and Kira had pushed up against the broken bleachers and he waited for Cora to show up. "Come on..." he sighed, anxious to run off some of the energy that was built up beneath the surface that no amount of human activity could ever seem to settle. If there was something that could be said for this camp, it was that it wasn’t Beacon Hills, but that didn’t mean it could compare to Brazil, by any means. Cora had grown much more accustomed to having her brother around again, and it was even nice at times. When she’d first arrived in this place, that had been one of the thoughts that Cora had been a little stuck on...the fact that she’d just started to have it kind of good, considering Derek had come down to join her in Brazil. Then, she’d found the camp, and her brother again. It almost seemed like it was too good to be true, but Derek was here. So, Cora wasn’t alone again. She had to be thankful for the fact that she wasn’t alone. Her footsteps were quick, even if they were much more silent than what your average person would hear, as Cora approached the gym. Just like with words, Cora didn’t waste time or excess movement, getting from point a to b as quickly as possible. In she went, not bothering to knock, only to see her brother...in some ridiculously tiny clothes. “You look like an idiot.” Cora’s right brow lifted with the comment and she crossed her arms, jacket moving with it. “I’m not sure how that didn’t draw attention.” She nodded to his ensemble, the corners of her mouth pulling slightly, and her fighting the urge to smile….because it was kind of funny. “Ha ha,” Derek replied sarcastically. Though, really, she did have a point. “I didn’t pick these out, they gave them to me. I know, I look like a gym teacher from 1983,” he scoffed and, in spite of himself, barked out a laugh to give her permission to laugh, too, because he knew he looked like an idiot. That was why he wore it; he really, really wasn’t going to miss the outfit. Derek looked over toward the door and closed his eyes briefly to listen and, not hearing anyone, he opened his eyes again and looked back at his little sister. “All right, I’m going, let me know if you hear someone coming and I’ll transition back out.” After waiting for approval from Cora, Derek did just that, shifting out of human form and into a large, black wolf with glowing blue eyes. He wasted no time after that, tearing through the gym, slipping every few yards because the floor was slick and his claws had nothing to grab for traction, but after a few minutes and a few laps around the large room, he got the hang of it. Cora couldn’t help the laugh that escaped, it was cued by Derek’s own laugh. He looked ridiculous, and she took some pleasure from his current state of dress. She hadn’t gotten the chance to torment him quite as much as younger sisters were supposed to, so she was definitely fitting it in when the opportunities came. “Yeah, you probably should have given that back. There’s no way this was ever going to fit you right.” Cora teased, in her own dry way. “Go for it, that’s what we’re here for.” Cora rolled her eyes, but turned to situated herself, so that she was close enough to the door that she would hear anybody coming before they could get inside. She was pretty much an expert in the whole lookout thing, at this point. And she was still kind of jealous that he was able to shift into a wolf, but...maybe she’d get there...eventually. Once she heard the sound of claws on the floor, Cora let out a bit of a scoffed laugh and smiled, lightly mind you, at the sight of her brother scrambling to get used to the floor as he did his best to make his laps. Leaning back, Cora watched Derek, and after a few moments she relaxed...only slightly. Her ears were peeled enough that strange footfalls approaching got through. Standing up straight, immediately, Cora hissed out, “Incoming! Get your ass shifted back someone’s coming!” That definitely sounded close, close enough that Cora didn’t feel like she was raising panic pre-maturely. And there...that sounded like they were at the damn door. She knew Derek wouldn’t want caught in this state, they were hiding for a reason. It felt incredibly good to get all of that pent up energy out. He hadn’t realized what he’d been missing and he’d never understood why Laura liked shifting so much when they went out to the park late at night in Brooklyn all those years ago, but he understood once he’d evolved to be able to do it himself. It felt…better to run in wolf form; it felt freer and just more...like himself. Cora’s hiss caught his attention immediately and Derek skidded to a halt, whirling to face the door. He took a second to collect himself and mentally grab for his anchor — her, actually, these days — and… Nothing happened. No, come on! he thought and trotted over toward her, thinking maybe having her scent right there would push it. But he couldn’t transition back. The footfalls drew nearer and Derek started to panic, which was only making it harder to focus in order to transition back into human form. He kept trying and nothing was happening. And then, it was too late. Derek forced the blue glow out of his eyes, because that much, he could manage and he sat dutifully beside Cora because maybe they wouldn’t freak out if they just thought...she’d found a dog. In the camp. Oh God, they’re going to think she went outside or that there was a security breach again, shit… |
