Caution to Wizards and Witches around Cardiff
August 23, 2024

Muggle papers have reported a mass murder of sorts in Cardiff. It is likely the work of the rogue werewolf that was (or had been) in that area. Limbs rent from bodies were scattered in a field to spell out the name of the rogue werewolf that was interrupted in an attempted murder of a family of Muggles just a few weeks ago.

We are encouraging all residents in and around Cardiff to take precautions. Anyone visiting Cardiff should do the same. Clearly, the werewolf is following in some famous footsteps by attacking and killing even when the moon isn't full.

Aurors will be patrolling the area, and the hitwitches and wizards will be on call until the rogue is caught. We are encouraging anyone in and around the area to report any suspicious activity immediately to the Ministry.

The rogue werewolf, Drakkor as he fancies himself, has been described as a little over six feet tall with pale blonde hair, sunken cheeks, and a lanky, gaunt frame. He may or may not still be in the area, but we have no evidence either way.

In a startling move this morning, Astoria Malfoy withdrew from the running for Headmaster - or Headmistress - of Hogwarts. She is also taking a much-needed break from her position on the Board of Governors to spend the remainder of the summer holiday with her daughter, Libra Malfoy.

As some of you may have heard, young Libra Malfoy was recently abducted from her home within the walls of Malfoy Manor. Last evening, she bravely escaped her captor and fled to the home of one of her classmates, one Corvus Corner. The Corners then promptly contacted the Ministry to report Libra's whereabouts, and she was safely reunited with her family. She will be staying in St. Mungo's to undergo treatment for injuries received during her period as a captive, but she is expected to be released within a few days.

With Astoria's withdrawal from the running, the candidate selected by the former Headmaster is now running unopposed. Assuming that Neville Longbottom accepts the position, he will be officially inducted as Headmaster to Hogwarts.

Rumors are circulating through the Ministry that one of the Aurors on the Malfoy case leaked one of the ransom notes from the kidnapper to another publication, thus shedding much unwanted light on the kidnapping situation. The Malfoys were attempting to keep the matter private in order to let the Aurors do their job without excessive false leads and outside tips that lead to dead-ends.

In response, Minister of Magic Narcissa Malfoy has instructed recently appointed Head Auror Harry Potter to ferret out the informant and to terminate the guilty Auror's employment should sufficient evidence be found against him or her.

Last night, just after midnight, one of the Ministry's own hitwitches, Brenna McKimmon, encountered a rogue werewolf preying on a Muggle family in Cardiff. Due to the Ministry's exceptional training programs, the recently graduated witch was able to subdue and drive away the attacker.

We are urging all residents in and around Cardiff to beware of this rogue werewolf. He is described as being tall, roughly 6'2", with bleached blond hair and sunken cheeks. He was seen wearing a black trenchcoat. The Aurors will be investigating this case more thoroughly, but in the meantime, do be careful.

Aurors at the scene likened the attack to those rumored to be favored by Fenrir Greyback, but we would like to emphasize that this is not Fenrir, but another werewolf who apparently subscribes to a similar methodology. Please be advised that werewolves are somewhat resistant to normal spells, and if you should come across him you should not engage him but instead apparate away to report his location to a Ministry official.

At approximately 8 AM this morning, two explosions sounded in the village of Hogsmeade. Due to the quick response time of the Aurors, damage was kept to a minimum. Injuries were tended on the scene by the Hogwarts healer, Ashley Wolffe, though more severe cases were sent along to St. Mungo's.

Both Madam Puddifoot's tea shop and Gladrags clothing store were apparently targeted. There seems to be no reason behind those two locations being chosen for the attack, though an investigation is ongoing.

The cause of the explosions appears to have been two Muggle incendiary devices most commonly referred to as explosives or bombs. Nothing further is known at this time, but the updates will be published as they are received.

At this time, we are assuming it is an isolated incident, though we do ask that you exercise caution and report any strange happenings to the Ministry at once.

In a not so shocking move, the Malfoys have announced that they will be hosting a fundraiser for the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on July 31st in the Malfoy's Manor home. In a move that is a bit shocking, they are opening their doors to all members of the wizarding society, regardless of blood status. As you should all be aware, Astoria Malfoy, member of the Board of Governors, was suggested for the position of Headmistress. Clearly, she's taking this to heart.

Also announced, Astoria Malfoy will be taking a tour of the school this Friday, July 10th. She had stated she wished to see what condition the school was in and to discuss the possibility of her taking the position of Headmistress come September with the professors and staff who have remained on over the summer.

Buried in the Back

Two Muggles were apparently savaged by what appear to have been werewolves last night. The bodies were found in the woods at a Muggle campsite by Muggle authorities who are blaming the attack on wild dogs or bear. One wizard from St. Mungo's hospital who had a chance to see the body assures us the attack could have been made by dogs, though there is also a very slim chance it was a werewolf, likely one working alone. There is nothing to fear.

We here at the Prophet are sad to report the untimely passing of Filius Flitwick. The former Headmaster of Hogwarts fell ill and given his age, there was nothing the healers could do for him. He passed away quietly. Funeral services will be held the weekend of July 4th; attendance will be open to the public.

This does leave an opening to be filled. In an move that is not without precedent, the Ministry of Magic is vying to place one of it's own members of the Board of Governors into the position. Astoria Malfoy, while not available for comment, is rumored to be their chosen candidate.

Hogwarts own Professor of Herbology, Neville Longbottom, is the rumored favorite candidate; time alone will tell whether witch or wizard will be responsible for the education of our young witches and wizards.

Professor Silver of Hogwarts is once again running her Camp Live-Like-A-Muggle for students who will be entering her sixth and seventh year classes. Anyone interested should send her an owl for the proper paperwork. The camp will run from Saturday August 1st, until Friday August 21st, with paperwork due no later than July 27th.
