Windows & Books

Who: Desdemona and Alarie
When: Anesus 1, 7:00PM
Where: 2nd Floor, Sitting Room

The day passed quickly, as it usually did for someone who slept through the daylight. Desdemona had been exhausted from her journey, and if that wasn't enough, there was the emotional baggage that came with being locked inside a compound for six years. She woke slowly, not particularly eager to explore her new home, but eventually deciding she didn't want to stay locked in her room. After pulling on a crimson silk gown and fixing her hair, Desdemona departed from her room, locking the door behind her.

Olive Branches

Who: Jacta and Tabrika
When: Anesus 1, early evening to later evening
Where: Around the castle, indoors

The day spent exploring with Cathryn had opened Jacta's eyes a little, and she thought that she was beginning to understand how the compound worked. At least... how the compound worked in between those ominous challenges that Harlan had mentioned. There were orchards and tillable land, there were forested areas farther out and she was pretty certain that the river that she'd had to ford to get to the compound gates last night (a thousand years ago) ran through the compounds lands somewhere further East than she'd had a chance to explore today.

The Art of Mingling

Who: Paziter and Desdemona, then Elanna
When: Anesus 1, 9pm
Where: Lounge

After his first encounter with one of the compounds host of residents, Paziter's gleaming enthusiasm for socialization had all but guttered out. The Vrykola was feeling down-trodden. His feelings and what little ego he possessed were hurt and it hadn't even been a full night, yet. He'd spent the rest of the evening confined to solitary quarters, moving his belongings around until he had enough space to get between the door and his bed, with a make-shift bench set over one of his trunks, a complicated looking contraption of glass and metal balanced atop that, and a locked box of tools nearby. Candles had been placed over ceramic tiles, glued to their spots with dabs of wax (though now most of them were melted down, having seen use right through dawn and into the day.)

Time Update: Anesus 2, 1715

Weather: The tail end of winter is still holding tight to the grounds, and though there is no snow, cleared by a brief thaw the previous week, it is even colder today, and everything has a light frost over it. An even colder wind picks up around sundown, though the sky is still cloudless all day. Anyone going outside would be wise to take a thick cloak and dress in layers, or to stay on one's animal form so make good use of the fur.

12:30 AM
This day's "challenge" is mainly for the first years and one rather nervous sixth year. The only obvious change at half-past the hour is the sudden appearance of notices all over the castle for a meeting that day, just past sundown, in the main hall. All newcomers to the compound are strongly urged to attend, though anyone is welcome. The notices say plainly that common practices, rules, and functions at the compound are to be explained, and an order of duties will be set.

Just a Bite? A Little Bite?

Who: Harlan and Paziter
When: Anesus 2, 12:30am
Where: Main Hall

While Elanna's presence had been fortifying earlier in the night, Paziter had apologetically unhooked himself from her and set himself to wandering alone, intent on the only kind of hunt that he knew how to negotiate. His stomach was all but rumbling; it had been getting towards three days since last he'd fed and he really wanted to set some kind of connections up before he had to resort to something completely ingratiating, like begging. Or worse (and he prayed to Rapemi to leave him be) succumbing to blood-lust over an accident in the kitchen. That had only happened to him once before, as a child, and he had been on chicken's blood for a month. It had been a foul month.

Passing Time

Who: Desdemona and Rémy
When: Anesus 2, 5:30 AM
Where: The Main Hall

When the fliers went up at half past midnight, Desdemona wasn't sure what to make of them. First there was an overwhelming sense of relief that something would be explained to them, then there was the anticipation that followed. She had over twelve hours to wait and speculate, her mind too busy to concentrate on the book she'd acquired. 'Common practices', they'd said. 'Rules'. What if they required that the Vrykolas feed on animals? Would she be reduced to chasing rabbits through the woods on foot? Such thoughts turned her stomach, already nervous from the number of pounding hearts around her. One more day. She was sure she could at least make it till the third. By then she'd have to come up with some kind of solution. Maybe one of the common practices would be this whole 'asking' thing she'd been hearing about. At least, in that case, the blood was Human. Or Lykos. Desdemona still wasn't sure what she thought of that. It left a bitter taste on her tongue, just thinking about it.

Watching and Whittling

Who: Kierban and Raven
When: Anesus 2, around 10:30 AM
Where: The main hall

Another day, another chance to meet more of the compound's newest residents. Kierban had been up all of the previous night, anxiously flitting about all three levels of the building, subconsciously memorizing each new face he spotted but consciously looking for people in obvious need of aid. Of course all the new arrivals had been lost and drifting, but some rose to the occasion and handled themselves just fine, whereas others looked obviously aimless and unhappy. It was these latter examples to which he had cautiously allowed himself to be drawn, to render assistance if they would allow it.

Colored Light

Who: Marcus and Tayne
When: Anesus 2, mid-morning
Where: the Oratory

Marcus lay on his back on one of the benches in the Oratory, gazing calmly up at the high windows that were set with stained glass of all colors. Although it was chilly outside, the sun was high, and he was striped with bands of colored light. Green, purple, red, blue, yellow. He could see the hues as they hit his clothed body; idly, he lifted a hand up to within two inches of his nose to view the near-turquoise and green light play over his fingers. He was dressed in pants and his usual layers of shirts, his blond hair still damp from the bath he'd taken shortly before coming down here.

Sisterly Concern

Who: Harlan and Alarie
Where: Harlan's room
When: Anesus 2, Late morning

It was late when Harlan finally dragged himself out of bed. Far later than the morning before-- far later than usual. He'd been up late first for the test-- which had been nothing, mostly for Tayne, Gochin, and the first years, and not even happening until that evening-- then with Paziter, and even with the food and drink the grateful, helpful Vrykola had brought him, the best cure for feeding a Vrykola was sleep, which he'd taken in plenty. He'd need more food and drink to dispel the headache he'd woken up with, but otherwise he felt surprisingly good when he first opened his eyes.

[info]1230mods in [info]1230am

Minor Implosions

Who: Harlan and Elanna
Where: The basement hall
When: Anesus 2, Late Afternoon

After food, drink, and a very long, deep sleep, Harlan felt as recovered as he ever did after feeding a Vrykola, and better, he felt he'd made a new friend-- or at least ally and possible mine for technological information. Paziter seemed a good boy, Vrykola or not, and someone who probably needed friends.

Tread Ye Softly

Who: Jacta and Remy
When: Anesus 2, Around Sundown
Where: Kitchens

Though the day had been an eventful one for Jacta Serosum just like the first of the month, things had become no less clear; the notices that littered the compound (by magical means or otherwise? Was there a mole amongst them?) only served to tantalize the human to events yet to come. One 'Tayne Peregrine', she had learned, would be revealing the days to come to them. Chore lists, rules, useful information... Jacta couldn't help but wonder why it hadn't been given out on the first instead of tonight. 'It figures, coming from a man,' she didn't voice, but couldn't help but think. With a name like Peregrine, she doubted that the leader was a lowbrow worker, which was a double-whammy against the as yet unmet man.

A Long Awaited Party ( ... only not really)

Who: Tayne and OPEN TO ALL
Where: Anesus 2, The main hall
When: Shortly after sunset

Though Tayne had been early, other people had been earlier still. There had been a small variety of people already in the great hall-- including a few "repeats"; he recognized poor Kierban, shooting him a little wave, though he didn't expect to get one back, and the sight of Remy already waiting made him want to groan, though he didn't. That Vrykola had made trouble for Torehl the whole year previous, and he had a feeling the spoiled brat was going to cause him no end of trouble, as well.

Panicked Little Lykos

Who: Tabrika and Kierban
Where: The Main Hall
When: Anesus 2, just after the meeting

By the time the meeting was over, Tabrika had managed to wedge herself into the corner as tightly as he could, eyes wide open and hands pressed over her ears. The only reason she hadn't wound up bolting was some mix of the certainty that if she did, she'd be ridiculed and dumped to the bottom of the compound hierarchy, and the plain fact that she'd have to get through that horrible, noisy crowd to do it. And with how hard it was to see, she'd make a commotion doing it.

In the Times we Can't Sleep...

Who: Davie and Cathryn
When: Anesus 2, After the meeting for the new arrivals
Where: In the Courtyard

When Davie had made his way to the evening's large meeting, he had wished he could go to bed instead. Now the meeting was over, rules had been explained, chores had been assigned, people had very vaguely met each other, and Davie found himself frustratingly awake. He had actually gone back to his room long enough to lay down for about a minute before deciding that he wasn't able to keep his eyes shut even that long and would be better served familiarizing himself with the complex.

Supporting the Vrykola

Who: Alarie and Paziter
Where: Anesus 2, Main Hall
When: After the meeting (and Paziter's conversation with Tayne)

Alarie couldn't help herself. She waited for the blonde Vrykola to finish speaking to Tayne before she bounced after him, determined to ask a few questions before he disappeared. He seemed a bit hesitant during the meeting, nervous sort of quiet and given he asked about a list of people to feed from... or support, as he'd called it - well, that tipped her off and had her thinking of Harlan all over again. Which was why she stuck around after the meeting, keeping her eyes glued to the guy and waiting for a chance to corner him.

Air of Displeasure

Who: Avery and Raven
Where: Avery's Room
When: 8:00 PM

Raven left the meeting in a huff, her temper never waning after she'd been cuffed upside the head. They had nothing to say that she wanted to hear, all signs pointing towards cooperation that she wasn't ready to give. Some of the questions had been flat out absurd, while others pointed out just how bad things might get there in the compound. Had Paziter actually asked for a list of people to feed on? She'd known the boy was weak, but if he couldn't hunt his own prey then he was lower than she thought.

Begging Your Pardon

Who: Paziter and Tayne
When: Anesus 2, shortly after the meeting
Where: Main Hall

Gods, it had been an awkward meeting, and not just for Tayne. After risking himself on such a faux pas, Paziter had sat silently on the bench, aware that the occasional person was darting him a look. Calculating, curious, or maybe even sinister? He wasn't sure, but he had decided then and there that he really ought to learn to refine his grasp on shadow walking... if he'd known how to sink into the shadow under the table, he probably would have simply disappeared for a few hours. What a way to start a night.

Puppy Eyes

Who: Alarie and Svathe
When: Anesus 2, After meeting (around 8:30?)
Where: Within the Castle (in the hall?)

As much as the Lykos would have liked to tarry around the meeting hall to snap at Gochin or Remy, the fact that tonight was the night put previous enmities on the back burner. Svathe had singled out his mark, the pup called Alarie, and now it was only a matter of time before he moved in. He had caught her speaking with a blood-sucker -- another first year, at that, and one about as servile as one could get without sinking to Kierban's level. Blood and feeding; Vrykolas went against every law of nature save perhaps ticks and lice. He wouldn't be surprised if they went under Tick's protection in the afterlife, if they were given auspice at all. Didn't the lot of them kill themselves anyways? Barbaric.

You got into a fight with WHO??

Who: Harlan and Alarie
Where: Alarie's room, this time
When: Anesus 2, late evening

It had been a long day, though in the end not necessarily a bad one. Harlan had pled exhaustion and escaped back upstairs to sit down a while, while Arie signed up for her chores for the year, and had settled on his bed with his latest book on magic until she was finished. He kept his ears sharp for the sound of her door on the wall beside his while he read the book over again-- he'd finished it the first day he'd had it, and now was rereading it for the third time, more slowly-- a trick he'd picked up not long after his arrival at the compound. It was safer to be careful, especially when you knew you weren't the most popular of people.

Awkward Inquiry

Who: Tayne and Desdemona
Where: 2nd Floor, Block 2, Room 3
When: 9:00 PM

The meeting had left Desdemona feeling neither better nor worse. For all it's hype, there were no grand answers, and she'd found herself silent, unable to ask questions. Without knowledge of what lay ahead, she wasn't even sure which direction to ask. Even if she had, their designated leader seemed unable to foretell the future, so what good would it actually do? Paziter had asked the question she'd never have voiced to that big a crowd, and even if the answer wasn't entirely satisfactory, she'd heard all she needed to know for the time being.

Time Update: Anesus 3, 1715

Weather: The wind from the previous day picks up further, bending the trees in the orchard and stripping some of the magically-ripened fruit from the boughs. By sunset, high clouds are starting to roll in, and by midnight not a star is to be seen. It isn't quite as cold today, as long as one is out of the wind, but the wind is frigid and makes it seem much colder than it is. Cloaks and/or fur are a must again today.

12:30 AM
At exactly half-past midnight, holes suddenly appear all over the castle in the inner walls-- regular holes, two bricks wide by two bricks high, big enough for all but the biggest in the castle to climb through. All of these holes are in the basement and the second story, in the walls between bedrooms and between bedrooms and the hall, though a few unlucky people get holes that look out into the sitting room, solar room, and basement lounge. Every room on the hall has a hole out into the hall, so anyone can see in, and everyone sharing a wall with another bedroom also has a hole into that bedroom. Thus, every bedroom has at least two new "windows", and most have three. Privacy, at least for the duration of the day, is going to be a rather rare commodity.

Who: Churat and Remy
Where: Their rooms
When: Anesus 3, Twelve-thirty in the morning

Really, Churat wasn't one to wait up and hover around the main hall for the challenges in the middle of the night. The night was when he was most active, when he had places to go, things to do-- people to hide from. Right then, he was in his room, working on some mending he would be on duty for once chores picked up again. Probably that would be the day after tomorrow, but he needed something to do, and it was starting to pile up.

Who: Davie and Cathryn
Where: In his room, at least to begin with (Basement block 13, room 3)
When: Anesus 3, 12:30 am

Davie lay awake, staring at the ceiling. He was tired, certainly, and he had planned to get to bed significantly earlier than he had the night before. Much as he had actually enjoyed the conversation he had had with Cathryn in the courtyard, he would rather not make a habit of being awake at such hours. Right now, he could almost brings himself to fall asleep, but not quite. The rumors of undescribed 'tests' occurring at half past midnight were enough to deter any level of slumber. He wouldn't let himself sleep until he could be sure it wouldn't put him in danger.

Won't You Be My Neighbor?

Who: Svathe and Tabrika
When: Anesus 3, 6:30 AM
Where: Basement, Block 24-2 and block 21-1

Half past midnight and always something new. Svathe was not too concerned. He had gathered a pack for a reason, after all. When the windows opened up, it was Veret who noticed first, being the one awake to watch over the den that had been made out of Svathe's room. The natural-formed Lykos had watched with uncanny hazel eyes as the bricks shied away, revealing the dim torch-light of the hall on one side, and two darker rooms aft and to his right. The Rapemi-born Lykos did little but sigh amusement, but said not a word. He would watch the holes in the den and guard against possible attacks... but he would allow Svathe to find out for himself that the new challenge was a far-reaching one like this. Let the pack-leader know that he had the initiative and the trust to guard without specific order... the older male had been acting more paranoid than usual; Veret figured that there was something he could do to make it up. It was making the rest of the pack edgy, not that he had the place to tell Svathe as much!

Who: Kai and Cathryn
When: Anesus 3, early morning
Where: Basement lounge

Holes in the walls! How curious was that? Already a mostly-nocturnal creature to begin with, Kai had still been awake when the inner walls of the compound had suddenly become lacking. The development had then, of course, warranted investigation.

First she stuck her head through the holes adjoining her own room, but her neighbors were not in attendance—and lucky for them, there was nothing intriguing within reach to be accidentally acquired or borrowed, either. Then, human-formed and with her door carefully locked (trusting in the “door magic” of her key to keep people out of her room despite the holes, as Marcus had told her it would) she went exploring the halls and sticking her nose into all the windows she found out there as well.

After Alarie had mentioned that Harlan might (just might!) be lurking around in the basement, Paziter couldn't wait to get to his room, himself. Who: Marcus and Bramble
When: mid-morning, Anesus 3
Where: Solar Room/Marcus' room

When the bricks had mysteriously gone missing from several sections of wall, Marcus hadn't noticed it. He was not much of a night person, and at half-past-midnight he'd been asleep for a couple of hours, at least. The change in the quality of light had not disturbed him, not then and not when the sun had risen, because he had the habit of sleeping mostly buried in covers, only a tiny gap left for his nose to emerge. He was a covered lump in his bed, and if any Lykos in their natural form had climbed through one of the holes to sniff at him, possibly, he hadn't known a thing.

The holes in the wall were... interesting. And a bit eerie. Alarie had woken to notice them almost immediately and had hurried to Harlan's room to ask about them, only he wasn't there. The holes in his own wall, however, unnerved her, and Alarie wondered if it had anything to do with the half past challenge. No privacy? She wasn't an overly private person, but after her run in with Svathe the day before, she wasn't terribly fond of knowing anyone could come by and peek in on her while she slept.

Who: Paziter and Raven
When: Anesus 3, 9:00 AM
Where: Basement, Block 23-2 and Block 20-4

After nearly two hours of working on Harlan's inventions, Paziter was ready to call it a day. He was exhausted, both physically and mentally, so while he was raring to continue the problem of the automatic tooth-cleaner, he was also barely able to keep his eyes open.

He had had to shoo Harlan away in order to sleep. Now, head hitting his pillow, he gave a sigh of relief that his coat was blocking out the hall and that his neighbors were quiet (or absent, as the case might be). He would do very well for a few extra winks. For all that Harlan's blood had sustained him for a night and a bit, he didn't want to wear himself out too quickly. Even if Alarie had offered herself up for another meal, Paziter would prefer to save his strength!

Right Next Door

Who: Harlan and Jo
Where: Their rooms, and the window between them
When: Anesus 3, late morning

One of the many places Harlan hid his things was the closet, the large room full of clothes and linens and things for everyone in the compound to use if they had need. After visiting with Paziter, he needed to put his tinkerings away, and the closet seemed as good a place as any, and one place he didn't actually have any of his other more personal belongings. By the time he actually reached the second floor, after two flights of stairs and a couple long hallways, however, he was starting to think he'd never make it to the closet. A breather was definitely required, so that his heart might slow down and his head stop spinning.

Jacta was feeling invigorated. She was also exhausted, but she had gotten so much work done in the few hours between eating breakfast and afternoon that she felt that she could be proud of herself. The hall was sparkling, the stairs were... passable (mud was hard to come by in the late of winter when everything was still frozen, but somehow people managed it!) and she was currently working her way down the bedroom hall, a great big bucket of sloppy, soapy water to one side, rags in hand. Her hair was tied back, her sleeves pushed up, and she knew she probably looked just like the little toiler that she'd been called the other day... but she didn't care. Surely others would appreciate all of the effort that she put into her lot of chores, right?

Practice Swords

Who: Tayne and Bramble
When: Anesus 3, Mid-afternoon
Where: The courtyard

For some reason, Tayne always felt better when he was doing something physical. Since that day was one of his off-days, he was technically supposed to be available for weapons training, which meant a lot of hanging around in the courtyard first during the afternoon and then just after sunset, for if any Vrykolas deigned to come to him for instruction or practice. A couple even did, sometimes.

That day he'd had one human come by briefly for a little work-out and some instruction on his foot-work, and then Gochin for a fun little spar. Right then he'd just finished running through a series of blocks and strikes against a shadow-opponent and was stopping for a breather, pushing his wet hair back with one half-gloved hand and leaning on his practice sword with the other. He had a bucket or water with a cup around here somewhere, didn't he? Where did he leave that....

Not the Best of Times

Who: Joy and Paziter
When: Anesus 3, 8:00 PM
Where: Main Hall

Paziter was in a righteously cranky mood, by all the gods and their consorts. He had gotten to sleep late due to Harlan's dawn-time visit (not a problem in itself. Harlan was nice. Harlan was fun. Most importantly, Harlan understood how to act like a half-decent Vrykolas-being.) The trouble had come after the human had left.

Oh, and had it come in spades.

Needless to say, Paziter had slept very poorly, and held Lykos-kind to even lower standards than he'd felt when he stumbled into Raven the first time around. That tramp, she had run Paziter to within an inch of his temper, which had -- until this point -- come in yards and miles. One of these nights that bloody unfortunate Zalaron was going to get just what she was asking for...

But it was not going to be tonight.

And it was better not to think about it right now. It would make her uncomfortable all over again.

Time Update: Anesus 4, 1715

Weather: Dark clouds cover the sky, creating a rather dim dawn to start the day. By noon, it starts to drizzle, the light rain made colder by the continued winds. Rain falls harder as the sun sinks down over the horizon and a full Lenhakriron moon rises in the sky. Lightening strikes bright in the night from the mountains to the north. A storm is on it's way.

12:30 AM
With holes still littering the walls, it seems the castle is disappearing, brick by brick. As the clock strikes half past midnight, the stone steps that lead up to the second floor vanish from sight. The basement stairs are quick to follow, leaving gaping holes where the stairwells used to be. There is no easy way to move between floors, as the distance between them is too far for even a Lykos to jump in full form, let alone a Vrykola or Human. Getting to and from one's room is apparently the challenge tonight, and it's definitely going to be a challenge.

When the holes remained all over the walls, Desdemona assumed that the test remained, not that another had appeared. She'd been sitting in the Main Hall with a few other of her kind, then breathed a small sigh of relief when nothing seemed to change. Having risen from her chair, she started back to her room, thinking she might change into something a bit more comfortable before heading out for the night. It was a silly thing to dedicate her thoughts to, and she felt even more foolish when she tripped, thinking she should watch where she was going right before she understood the situation in full.

To say that Rémy was unhappy at this moment in time would be a gigantic understatement.

He'd gone out at about midnight, wanting to supplement his last feed with animal blood of some sort, even though he knew what the consequences for him would be. He could usually find an amenable human, but thus far that night, those he traded with or who willingly fed him were otherwise occupied, and he'd lost patience with searching the castle. A Near Miss

Who: Marcus and Jacta
When: Anesus 4, 7:00 AM
Where: 2nd floor hallway, next to the stairwell

Marcus went to bed reasonably early as a rule, so he also rose early. When he woke up on Anesus 4, the first thing he did was raise himself up onto his elbows in the still-dim light and squint at the closest wall to his bed. There still seemed to be extra windows in the walls due to missing bricks. Yawning, he climbed out of bed and wandered to the actual window, seeing that outside was very cloudy, not a trace of the sun anywhere. It was going to be a day when his eyesight was worse than usual due to the lack of natural light, but since there wasn't anything he could do about that, he decided not to let it trouble him.

Toll Master

Who: Svathe and Tayne
When: Anesus 4, 8:30 AM
Where: Basement base of missing staircase

Despite the stairs going the way of the ancestors, despite the fact that Svathe had found himself trapped in the grim-smelling basement on his only day off of the week, despite that the windows hadn't yet disappeared and he had been sorely tempted to pay clandestine visits to the more interesting members of the compound (though he dared not, not when Cratch was sulking and Tabrika was in thorough need of a careful watching)... despite all of this, the Lykos was feeling all but on top of the world.

Food shouldn't be this difficult

WHO: Davie and Ryder
WHEN: Anesus 4, 11 am
WHERE: Where the basement staircase should be.

When Davie awake, he could only wonder at the time. At home, he had been an early riser, taking advantage of the hour or two he had usually had before too many other people were up and active. Here, it seemed, weird happenings at late hours and a tendency to stay up even later because of them seemed to be shifting his schedule. Thinking on which, he hadn't noticed anything especially strange happening last night. Maybe he wasn't one of the people affected by it. If that was really the case, so much the better.

Surprise in the Pantry

Who: Marcus and Churat
When: Anesus 4, 12:00 PM
Where: first floor, pantry

It had definitely been an eventful morning. Marcus had nearly fallen to what would have been an unpleasant death, had banged his elbow to the point that it was quite swollen, and had participated in performing a spell. Even if in the most passive of ways, he'd helped! The spell might've been completely gross, but it had worked, and he'd met a new potential friend. He'd eventually wandered back to his room, unsure what to do about the pantry duty he was supposed to have since he couldn't get downstairs. Once he'd ventured out again, he'd discovered Tayne and several people he didn't know putting the finishing touches on a rope ladder of sorts that could be used to get downstairs.

It wasn't any easy feat to climb down the rope with his elbow the way it was, though he felt fortunate that it had just about gone numb. He heaved a sigh as his feet touched the stone floor, brushed blond hair out of his eyes and headed for the kitchen and pantry area.

Wrong Floor

Who: Alarie and Churat
Where: Second floor, then climbing down to the first floor
When: Early afternoon

Alarie was getting restless - what with the rain pouring outside. She felt cooped up, with not much to do other than track down her brother and bug him for a couple of hours. She had been trying to give him some space, not wanting to smother him too badly with her presence. Wandering along the second floor, Alarie pushed her hair behind her ears, eyes sweeping along some of the faces passing by her. She was desperate enough for company that she would probably snag anyone she recognized for a conversation. If she couldn't find anyone up here, Alarie considered heading down into the basement to see if she could find Desdemona again. She hadn't talked to the girl since they met, but she was friendly enough and surely would be up for company if she was awake.

Time Update: Anesus 5, 1715

Weather: At midnight, the storm really hits. Lightning, thunder, hurricane-force winds, torrential rain... all of it. It's like nature is throwing a fit and making everyone else suffer for it. Going outside is really not an option today, and the poor Lenhakriron-clan Lykos who had been locked outside the castle the night before to keep the hole-filled castle safe from them really have it bad. The head of compound is ready to let them in first thing in the morning, once the moon has officially set, but if they don't show up right when he opens the door, they'll be stuck in the storm all day. The horses, cattle, and sheep are moved to the courtyard by the night guards.

12:30 AM
It seems that, today, the test is the storm, or at least some aspect of it. The very instant the clock hits half past midnight, the first strike of lightning hits on compound ground, and the first roll of thunder rumbles in seconds after after. The little "windows" into everyone's rooms disappear, the staircases return to their proper places-- regardless of any other methods rigged to get from floor to floor; they miraculously return to wherever they were, and anyone using them at the time is transported safely to the floor which is nearest-- and only the storm remains.

Everything back to normal?

Who: Davie, Harlan, and Elanna
When: Anesus 5, 12:30 am
Where: Starting in his room, but out and about

Once Davie had managed to get himself upstairs and to a decent meal, he decided the best thing to do with the rest of the day would be to sit in his room and hope the stairs returned to their place before the next day. He could live on one meal a day, and for now that's what he thought was easiest, but if he had to figure out new kinds of devices every time he had to get between his room and the kitchen, he was going to go nuts. As for the time he spent sitting in his room, it was mostly dedicated to flipping through the magic book he had borrowed from Cathryn and making small attempts at practice. He had told himself that he would stay awake until half past midnight so he would know what had happened, but around eleven or so, he was starting to change his mind. He hadn't gotten a decent night's sleep yet in this place, and that meant he was tired. He collapsed into bed at about half past eleven, deciding that the things that had happened so far hadn't been especially urgent, and whatever else was going to disappear tonight, he would find out in the morning.

Storms and Footwarmers

Who: Kai and Marcus
When: Anesus 5, late night/early morning after 12:30 AM
Where: Marcus’s Room

Though it couldn’t be said that Kai was starting to lose faith in her surroundings, she was really starting to feel quite lonely. Though she’d met many of the compounds other inhabitants and was slowly starting to sort out the myriad scents all over the place, including those that told her there were several Lykos packs around, she was still looking for a place where she could fit and stay for more than just a passing conversation. Oh, she knew she’d have one eventually, of course she would…but she was really starting to have that nagging complaint that she wanted a place now. If she hadn’t known things would work out eventually, she might have wished she was male—then she could make a place and form a pack all her own. But as it was, she just had to keep drifting for now.

Chores

Who: Jo and Tayne
When: Anesus 5, just after sunrise
Where: Outside!

Accustomed to waking with the sun (and still a little tired from her meeting with Paziter and all the excitement the following day), Jo was up and about her business before she even realized that the windows in her room had vanished. They'd never actually bothered her much, even with a boy as her neighbor. Harlan had even actually been quite nice throughout the whole ordeal.

With her mind still on windows, Jo glanced outside. The rainy weather had worsened overnight... and today was her shift in the garden. She paused only a moment before shrugging mentally. It wasn't as though she'd melt, and she'd probably been out in worse. Still, it'd be pretty cold, as well as damp, so another layer of clothing was called for.

Drying by the Fire

Who: Kai and Churat
When: Anesus 5, late morning
Where: Basement lounge

Nobody had told Kai the compound courtyard was going to be locked. Why would it be locked? The sun was up (even if it was lost behind the stormclouds) and the few Lenhakriron clan of the compound were back in their rational minds, so why did it need to be locked? Well, Kai didn’t know, but it was. She’d found that out first hand. After sleeping late in comfort and company for the first time since she’d arrived, Kai had attempted to follow her usual routine once she was finally up and about: she tried to go out to hunt breakfast.

After skirting the herds of livestock taking shelter in the courtyard, however, she’d discovered that that was as far as she would be getting. The courtyard gates were soundly shut and there would be no getting out for her. Oh, she’d tried, sort of, but in the end all she’d managed to achieve was getting soaked all the way through her fur and matted up to her heels in mud. As she’d slogged her way back to the compound doors, she’d also noted the gardens—on which a good portion of her day yesterday had been spent with her gardening chores—looking rather drowned, which was annoying.

A Self-Assigned Task

Who: Kierban and Davie
Where: The main hall
When: Anesus 5, noonish

Kierban hated full moon nights. The moon had already risen and set (although the raging storm concealed the fact) but that didn’t change the fact that he always felt a little more miserable when the full moons were soon to come or recently passed. It didn’t even matter if the moon was his own or not, because every luminous orb invoked the same sorrow and melancholy. They were reminders of his childhood days when people had actually cared for him.

Lost in the Storm

Who: Rémy and Tayne
When: Anesus 5, late afternoon
Where: the main hall, lurking in the shadows

Rémy was in a much better humor than he'd been in the day before, actually even more so due to the dark, lowering skies and the thunderstorm that had been raging outside since the wee hours of the morning. He loved days when he could walk around above basement level as soon as he woke up and not have to wait for sunset.
