Who: Delaney Twilfitt and Maeve Sheridan
When: Saturday evening/night
Where: Beginning at the Apothecary, ending who knows?
What: Delaney has an elixir to pick up. But that's not all she has in mind.
Rating: PG for kissing and awkwardness?
Open/Closed: Closed, Complete

Delaney hadn't been watching the time for the last hour. That wasn't her style at all. No, she had been keeping herself occupied, rearranging her shoes in the closet, and looking over some invoices for the shop, and okay yes, she had absolutely been watching the time for the last hour. It didn't matter anymore, because it was time to go.

She'd been planning it carefully - arrive to pick up the elixir for Nico at a time when Maeve was sure to be closing up shop, and invite her out. And then kiss her. Delaney hadn't really made plans further than that, mostly because she wasn't sure Maeve would let her get any further than that.

So. Elixir, date, kissing. Those were the three things on Delaney's mind as she strolled down the alley in a deliberately nonchalant manner, arriving at the door of the apothecary with hands that weren't shaking at all, thank you very much. She pushed open the door and walked in.

So kisses, hugs and presents were not the answer. Delaney went to eat more of her food, only to find her plate empty, and before she could check herself a mournful little whimper escaped her throat. She had been enjoying her meal, and hadn't been ready for it to be all gone. Biting her lip, she signaled the waiter and ordered some garlic bread, not wanting to appear gluttonous but still hungry enough to need more food.

That done, she turned her attention back on Maeve. "Yes, I have," she agreed readily. "But every time I mention it, you either disagree with me or change the subject, which leads me to believe that you think I'm either lying or crazy. I thought bringing it up more often might acclimatize you a little to the fact that I'm attracted to you." She smiled, hoping she wasn't coming off too harsh. She had meant her words to be semi playful.

Maeve pecked at her pasta, trying to form her words and then settled for simply finishing off her glass of wine."Or, perhaps, just misguided," she said, gesturing toward her with her glass, ignoring that she was merely proving Delaney's point by avoiding once again.

"How am I misguided?" Delaney asked mildly. "You haven't misrepresented yourself once since I've known you, that I know of. Unless that pretty face is nothing but a mask, and underneath you're one of the Gringotts goblins. But I like to think I would have picked up on that."

A thought suddenly occurred to her and she went pale again. "Maeve... I don't have any bloody money that I can use in a muggle restaurant!"

"Alright then," Maeve rolled her eyes, smirking at Delaney's comeback and changed routes. She was willing to accept the fact that she was moderately attractive, she'd always thought of herself as decent looking, perhaps better than average. But someone actually being attracted to her was different. "Then perhaps you really are crazy. My mistake."

"Great," she sighed, taking a sip of wine and thought to herself how lucky it was she actually had a fair amount of money on her for once. "I do. It's alright."

"You make me want to kiss the smirk right off your face," Delaney blurted, then blushed, then blushed harder once she realized she was blushing. "And I'm not crazy... unless you mean crazy about you." She sighed. "It's not like I get it either, you know. Like I said, I'm just... going with it."

Maeve's reaction to her lack of muggle money annoyed her a little. "Honestly, what were the chances of me having any muggle money?" she asked, in a slightly haughty tone. "And yet, you chose to bring me to a muggle establishment. I would have taken you to Diamond, and paid - they accept real money there, after all."

Just going with it, Maeve nodded at the statement, thinking but not saying that she was trying, with limited success, to do the same thing. It was difficult to just go along with things when Delaney was more than happy to throw her for a loop, without warning, at any given point.

"Diamond is filled with rich, elitist assholes," Maeve said simply. "That d- outing would have ended with me hexing someone's eyeballs backwards. Not that tonight won't, it's just far less likely." Since it was now on her tab, Maeve caught the waiter as he was passing by and ordered another bottle of the same wine, grateful for the exchange rate.

"Merlin, that's hot," Delaney murmured, listening to the matter of fact way Maeve talked about hexing people. She was even willing to overlook Maeve's opinion about her brethren, the so-called rich elitist snobs, because truth be told, she almost wanted to watch Maeve lose her temper and hex somebody's balls off.

She cleared her throat. "Lets finish the wine and go…"

Delaney's unexpected reaction threw Maeve off her rant and she stared at her for only a moment, trying to decide what exactly was 'hot' about hexing someone else.

Maeve shrugged and opened her mouth to reply, she was about to say 'fine' and request their check from the waiter but quickly changed her mind. Even if she was unsure of the situation and what she thought she felt she'd let Delaney have more than enough control over her in the last few encounters they'd had. "And some tiramisu, please," she ordered as the waiter filled their glasses.

"I'll have the same, thanks," Delaney told him, surprising herself with how polite she was being to the muggle. And how inoffensive he was to her senses - he didn't smell, he wasn't loud or annoying or obnoxious, and his service was excellent. He was, in short, everything she had heard muggles were not.

"Drink up," she suggested gently, wanting Maeve nice and fuzzy before they left. "It'd be a shame to let good wine go to the waste."

"Yes, I'd ordered it with the intention of staring at it rather than drinking it," Maeve replied, smirking at herself. Half a bottle of wine was more than she usually drank and she could already feel a warmth spreading through her as she started on the second glass. A part of her was sure that she'd be regretting ordering a second bottle but she silenced it promptly, the last person she needed to start ganging up on her was herself.

She ran her finger along the stem of the glass, watching it's progress before she spoke, brashly. "What's so fantastic about Diamond anyway. I can't imagine anything being worth the gold that place must demand."

Delaney snickered. "Now now, there's no need to be sarcastic," she admonished playfully.

"People pay for exclusivity. It's a heady feeling, walking into a building and knowing there's only a certain type of people who can follow. And for those who can't get in - those who care, obviously - there's an element of envy, of desire, of aspiring to get in one day..." She shrugged. "And people will pay through the nose for exactly that. Don't ask me why, but there it is. And I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm one of them."

She took a sip of her wine. "I can tell you're not exactly a fan of the type of person who frequents Diamond."

"I'm not a fan of the type of people who have the world lay down at their feet for no reason other than they have gold in their pocket. I've met too many overly privileged, boorish twits that couldn't even tell you the right way to hold a wand to fall for the ploy that gold is tantamount to talent or skill. It's the same vicious cycle that keeps ineptitude in power that keeps people thinking blood actually makes a difference." Knowing already that the last bit would hit a sore spot with Delaney, Maeve made sure to throw it in, acting unaware of what she'd said as she drank her wine and thanked the waiter graciously as he set down dessert.

"Granted, the world falls at my feet for the most part, but it's not only because I have money, you know. It's also because I'm nice to look at."

Delaney frowned slightly. "Okay yes, I'm over privileged. I'm a spoiled brat, for the most part, and I can admit it. And I'm not going to hide behind my upbringing, and spin you a sob story about how Mummy and Daddy never taught me any better, because it would be a load of rubbish. Mummy and Daddy didn't teach me a damn thing. I was raised by a glorified maid."

She narrowed her eyes. "And before you think I'm trying to work the "poor little rich girl" angle, you can forget it. I know exactly who I am and why I do the things I do - it's because I was spoiled rotten to overcompensate for my parents never being there, and I liked it. There's no harm in admitting that one likes to be spoiled."

Realization was dawning on her, and she knew it showed on her face. "But you... that's why I like you so much. You are the first person in my life who hasn't bowed down before me, who hasn't rushed to strip down for me. You're the first person who has made me work - the first person I've wanted to work for."

Leaving the tiramisu, Maeve leaned back in her chair and sipped her wine as the other woman ranted. "No harm except for sounding like there's nothing more to you than a spoiled princess," she observed, before taking her first bite. She would have liked to say that Delaney's sudden epiphany meant anything more to her than additional knowledge, but she couldn't.

She took another drink of her wine, finishing the glass off faster than intended. "You're the first person that's liked me like that," she said conversationally, not realising til after how much more it gave away about herself than she'd meant to. She hesitated slightly when it dawned on her but she quickly poured another glass and kept her calm exterior up. "I don't bow down to anyone," she recovered, "It's not just you."

Delaney raised an eyebrow. "Do you think there's nothing more to me than the fact that I'm a spoiled princess? I like to think I'm more. I'm a foster mother, I'm a clothing merchant... I'm a lover..." She waggled her eyebrows suggestively and laughed.

"And that I don't believe," she said firmly. "Look at you, you're smart, you're pretty, and you said so yourself, you don't bow down to anyone. You certainly haven't let me get away with any of my usual crap. What's not to like? I bet a heap of people have liked you, even if they never said anything."

"I know that. But talking and acting like a spoiled brat doesn't entice people to look further." Maeve explained, gently stabbing a piece of her dessert.

Not being able to say for certain either way, Maeve shrugged and washed her bite down with wine. "There's plenty to not like, I'm sure. I don't make it a point to aim to be 'likeable' generally. Successful, better, accomplished...yes. Likeable?" She shrugged again, to show it was a quality she could take or leave, and gestured at the waiter for his attention, ready for the cheque and the walk home.

"Perhaps, up until now, I haven't given a toss about whether people looked further. Until I met you I was quite happy with the status quo."

Having finished her dessert Delaney reached for her wine and finished that off too. "It's been my experience that the people who strive to be likeable are usually the people who fail the hardest at it. The people that everyone wants to be around, are the people that don't feel the need to try so hard. So you might have something there." Seeing Maeve gesture to the waiter, Delaney smiled.

Finishing her last glass, Maeve glanced at the bill laid in front of her and pulled her wallet out of her clutch. "It's not that I don't feel the need to try hard," she explained, laying out enough money to cover plus a tip and stood. "I genuinely don't care about it. Being likeable...There are fields that's a requirement, mine is not one of them. There's no need to care about that."

Delaney was distracted by the money on the table. She picked it up and examined it curiously. "What... how do you know what this is?" she asked. "I mean... it's paper. Couldn't anyone just... make more? And the coins... they're so..." She looked at Maeve, and refrained from saying what she really thought. "...different."

It almost sounded as if Maeve was trying to talk her out of liking her, and it wasn't going to work. It hadn't worked all the other times it had seemed like that's what Maeve was trying to do, and it wasn't going to work now. She stood as Maeve did, moving around the table and standing next to her. "So... where to?"

Lifting an eyebrow, Maeve pulled her wallet back out and passed it to Delaney. "They have ways of making them unique," she explained. "The colours, the watermark you see when you tilt it, and they change the designs. It happens but not rampantly."

Maeve glanced at Delaney but didn't say anything until she'd walked out of the restaurant and into the fresh air outside. She took a deep breath and felt her head spin slightly, the sudden movement of walking outside of sitting and drinking all night catching up to her and making her sway slightly.

Regarding the money in the wallet Maeve handed her, Delaney made a contemplative noise. "They're sort of... pretty," she murmured, holding up one note. "How much is this one worth?"

But all thoughts of money left her mind when she saw Maeve sway, and she lunged forward and caught her, wrapping her securely in her arms. "Hi," she said quietly, almost shyly. She wanted to kiss Maeve, wanted it so badly, but she was tired of making the first (the only) move all the time. She wanted for Maeve to want to kiss her, to be the one to start it.

She settled for looking in Maeve's eyes, letting her gaze flicker down to Maeve's lips and back up again, still holding her close under the guise of keeping her steady.

"Hi..." Maeve held onto Delaney, one hand on her waist and the other her shoulder, forgetting for a moment that she should be steadying herself and stepping back. Delaney had made Maeve nervous and unsure plenty of times and she'd even enjoyed some of the kisses when she'd let herself relax. But this time, this embrace felt different and she felt almost fluttery. Raising slightly, Maeve closed the gap between them and kissed Delaney softly. "Thanks."

Later, when the wine wasn't controlling quite so much of her faculties, Delaney would look back on this and cringe at the needy little whimper that escaped her. In the moment, though, she just couldn't care, kissing back lightly but eagerly, her tongue flicking out to taste Maeve's lips, daring her to respond in kind.

"You're welcome," she breathed, uncomfortably aware of the butterflies performing a ballet in her stomach and the beginnings of a tell tale ache between her legs. To distract herself, she brushed her lips against Maeve's again.

Head swimming, Maeve closed her eyes and kissed Delaney back. Even as her stomach flipped pleasantly she noticed that she could feel the ground spinning under her feet and tightened her arms around Delaney. She responded to the step up, opening her mouth against the other woman's and meeting her tongue with her own, offering Delaney more.

Delaney moaned, kissing Maeve a little harder, a little more insistently, beginning to walk her backwards until she was backed up against the closest building. She was careful not to press too hard, just held her there gently, kissing her.

Her hands moved, one arm still wrapped around Maeve's back keeping her up, the other caressing her cheek gently then cupping her face. Her lips wandered from Maeve's lips to her cheek, then down to her jawline, kissing a soft trail up to her ear. "Is this okay?" she breathed, right in Maeve's ear.
