"He turned it on without knowing what it was?"
"Yeah," Fred said as she slowly stood from her chair. She picked up a couple tablets and looked at Rodney. "Doctor Lee checked him out, and she didn't find anything wrong with him. And I gave him a stern lecture about turning things on."
"Good," Rodney said with a nod. He knew Doctor Hayward was an idiot, but who in the hell turned on a machine they knew nothing about? He was going to have to find time to speak to Fred and Cait privately about having Hayward transferred back to Earth. The man was going to end getting someone killed someday.
"Well, I'm off to find my husband. I'll see the two of you later," Fred said before she waved to them, and walked out the lab.
Rodney looked over at Cait, and frowned before rubbing his hand over her belly. "Are you sure you shouldn't be resting? Your due date is in less than five weeks," he said with a concerned look.
"I'm fine, Rodney. Plus, it wouldn't be fair for Fred to do all the work since she's just as pregnant," Cait said before she leaned up and softly kissed him. Both of them laughed when Shaun kicked. "If I start to feel tired, I'll stop. Promise. I love you."
"Love you too," Rodney said before he quickly kissed her again. He watched her walk out the lab's side door. He then turned and looked at the piece of equipment Hayward had turned on.
"So what is it?" Radek asked as he walked over to it.
"I'm about to find out," Rodney said as he hooked his laptop up to it so he could work on it without actually turning it on.
Rodney watched the data pop up on his screen, and furrowed his brow. He was about to turn to Radek and say something but before he could, there was a loud explosion. It caused all the glass in the lab to be blown out, and knocked both him and Radek to the floor.
Groaning in pain, Rodney laid on the floor, pieces of glass cutting into his skin. "Radek?" he asked.
"I'm all right. What was that?" he asked.
Rodney slowly stood, his ears ringing. Suddenly a feeling of dread filled him, and without saying a word, he ran toward the biology lab, with Radek on his heels. When they got there, Rodney stopped in his tracks as the blood drained from his face. Cait was laying on the floor, blood coming from her head and a beam laying across her legs.
"Cait!" he yelled as he ran to her and fell to his knees.
"We called medical but we need help clearing a path for them," Max said.
Blinking, Rodney looked up at her, noticing the large gash across her forehead. He then looked around, and noticed Tim and Jeannie were trying to get the beam off Cait but without much luck. "Cait?" he whispered.
His chest tightened. He couldn't sense her. It was like she was completely gone. Tears filled his eyes and he pressed his hand against the gaping wound on her head. "Please wake up," he sobbed. He leaned his head against hers, her blood covering his hands. This couldn't be happening. Not to her.
CARSON! Rodney silently yelled. "Cait. Wake up. Please, sweetie."
She didn't answer.
