"Miko says that Shauan is going to be fine," Carson said as he sat down next to his husband. "He's going to have to spend a week or two in the incubator just to make sure everything is developed, but she says he's strong."
"Of course he is. He's our son," Rodney said.
Carson nodded, deciding to wait to tell him that Doctor Lee's tests had pretty much pointed to Rodney being Shaun's biological father just from the blood type alone. It didn't matter which one of them had fathered Shaun - just that he was there with them and alive.
He asked how Cait was doing, instead, and Rodney was saying that her injuries were gone when she woke up, asking where Shaun was. Carson felt his throat tightening. They had come so damn close to losing her. He looked over at Kade. He had given them the greatest gift ever. He had given them another chance. Wrapping his arms around all of them when Cait pulled him over, Carson let out a soft sob and held them.
"Shaun's in an incubator just so he can finish developing," Carson said. Pulling away, he wiped the tears from his eyes and went to the storage area to get one of the wheelchairs. When he brought it back, Rodney and Kade helped her to sit into it, and then the four of them went to the room where one of the nurses was watching over their little boy.
"There he is," Carson said, pushing her up next to the incubator so she could see him.
