Alright. If I'm not the first person this' happened to, it seems safe to assume you've got some kind of support-network set up already.

So I'd really appreciate it if someone could find me a car, painkiller or a doctor who's quick or doesn't mind traveling.
I need to get back to Louisiana fast as I can, but I'm bleeding something terrible right now, I remember what internal trauma feels like, and it feels a whole lot like how I'm feeling.

Anyone wants to tell me the time, that'd be real useful, too.

From what I gather so far, there's a "mystic seal" that means I'll go to a "different Louisiana", and can't go back otherwise, till it lets me.

Son, even if I was shopping for hokum, that's not a whole lot to buy.

Out of curiosity, the Louisiana you're from... is your New Orleans run by a weird triad of witches, vampires and other gribblies? Because if not, then it's not the Louisiana I came here from.

It sounds crazy, I know. Mystical seal, multiple worlds, something about th3e apocalypse. But it's also real.

I aint from Louisiana. Just trying to get back there.

And I'm going to take a wild shot in the dark and assume No. Only people I saw calling any shots were Vampires in the old, rich, living-off-the-poor and killing indiscriminately kind of way.

Wouldn't surprise me if they figured themselves witches, mind. Strange Masks and Child Sacrifice and Satanic Rituals. That kind of thing?

... yeah, that sort of thing rings a few bells. Mostly the Child Sacrifice. Not so much the Masks. Something called the Harvest, bunch of girls being killed off to power up the rest of their coven?

As for the Vampires? Very definitely the in literal "I vant to suck your blood" sense.

Never met a monster that wasn't just some guy, slipped too far down the morality scale.

Maybe this is just one of their "different Louisiana" things. Or maybe I just kept paying attention to things I could actually fix.

You should come over some time. Meet the family

I'm going to guess Different Louisiana. Your one's probably in a book, or a tv show, or a movie or something here. When you're done bleeding everywhere you should try Googling yourself. It's... an experience.

Used to take pride in quite how little they told me came up, when I did that.

Guessing that's not the case here?

Yeah, no. Not so much.

Probably want to get yourself a drink before you try it, pro-tip. You might be "lucky" and it's something obscure enough not to have a fandom, and a wiki, and a bunch of strangers knowing everything about you.

Welcome to Lawrence. It's like that most of the time. Except sometimes there's also apparently cursed mistletoe and weird naked guys trying to hug everyone and rugarus.

So is finding out whether I live or not a smart idea?

Because it looks like whoever was tracking me, crapped out about half way through, and it's going to take more than a casual scan to work that out.

Rugarus?

I guess that's up to you. Because when you get back where you're from you're not going to remember any of this, so it's not some Back To The Future disappearing-photo paradox thing, knowing your own destiny or whatevs. Some of us have been here more than once, apparently, but we don't remember any of it. And some of the others forgot while they were away, and remember now they're back. It's a whole barrel full of weird with exactly zero precedent, sorry.

... you'd need to ask a local. All they'd tell me was that they eat people, and you have to set them on fire, and if you see one you'll know. One of the natives, Dean, runs a class on the local weird wildlife that's recommended, if you're planning on keeping Fixing Things while you're here.

So it don't matter what I do, either way things are going to carry on going like they're going to go?

And no matter what I learn now, what happens to me, I'm going to make the exact same choices, once I get back again?

Guess that means Nietzsche was entirely right, huh?

Can't say I ever read much Nietzsche so you're going to have to forgive me if that reference sails right over my head, but yeah. That's about the gist of it.

Time, is a Flat Circle. And we run around the edge, doing the same things, in the same way, over and over and over.

You're going to do what you're going to do. There's no real choice in it, just the illusion of one.

Only way we can know we're going to do what the show tells us we're going to do.

... well. That's way, way above my paygrade - you're going to want someone with proper smarts to explain how this all works, and that's not me - but let's give it a shot.

Maybe the show shows you doing those things because you chose / choose / are going to choose to do them, because you were / are / will be who you were / are / will be. You're still choosing to do the thing, it's just that the other choices aren't ones you'll take. Doesn't stop the other options existing.

Choices you'll never take, that's the rub.

And if there's only ever one choice you're ever going to make? That's not a choice.

No, it's not. More often than not, seeing is more of a believing thing around here. The Seal isn't exactly a physical thing that I can give you a tour of, though, so that's not an option. But if you hang out at that graveyard enough? You'll see more people dropping in without knowing how they got there, just like you did. And everyone else here? They all went through exactly what you're going through now.

I've got a lot of answers to a lot of questions around here, but for as long as I've been involved in all of this my responses regarding the Seal and how it works are still a lot more limited than I'd like them to be.

Doesn't look like I'll be going anywhere else. This the kind of town where passing out in the graveyard's going to get you moved on?

Because while I don't doubt the fact that I don't legally exist here has it's advantages, If I remember how the force runs, they aren't going to take kindly to some drunk with fraudulent ID.

They're not too big on it, no. But you're gonna need a fake ID no matter how far from the law you plan on staying. Just in case of emergencies.

I'd just try to avoid the cops as much as you possibly can.

If you're looking for work or a place to settle, there are a lot of people around here who have found a way of life here. They'd be more than willing to help you find your feet.

Real ID's good as a fake one, I reckon. Oh-ficial Texas License, although I guess the numbers don't line up.

Somewhere to settle's all kinds of smart though. I keep trying to change my dressing in gas station toilets, it's not going to end well.

They won't need to if you can play it off well enough. Take the focus away from your ID. If someone is carding you, make sure they're focused on you, not the card itself.

No, it's not. We can get you the medical help you need. Where are you?

Huh.

Son, I bet if you'd been serving back in my prime, all that undercover work would have gone plenty smoother -skip all that introductions and careful infiltration and expert forgeries, just swagger in, pulling all the attention you can.

Figure that's maybe why I got shot that time. Turns out I was too inconspicuous.
