Who: Lydia and Mitchell
What: Christmas morning bauble wishes!
When: Forward dated a bit to Christmas morning
Where: Their apartment
It was probably bad to be as happy as Lydia was that Christmas. She had lost her sister only months before, after all. But she knew Jane was safe and happy back home and that was important. And her dream would live on in her bakery thanks to Tom and their new baker he'd found. She had a steady income for life, thanks to her Bauble, though she hadn't chosen unlimited funds. Why should she? She'd worked hard for what she had and she was pretty proud of that and wanted to keep it up. There were some amazing friends in her life, a baby nephew she adored, and a job that actually meant something to others.
And then there was Mitchell.
She never would have pictured herself as the type of woman to settle down, especially before she was thirty. But he meant the world to her. Despite everything, they still endured. He fought every instinct his nature gave him for her, and while she'd never see herself as worthy of that sort of sacrifice, she loved him all the more for it. He had fought so hard to be a man worthy of being loved and for that, he deserved all the love she could give him. He meant so much to her and even though things would likely get difficult in the future as she aged and he didn't, she was willing to try. He had tolerated the bubbly perky girl and stayed with her as she had matured into a mature and loving but still cheerful woman.
That Christmas morning, she stretched lazily, looking over at his empty side of the bed. It was still warm; he'd likely just stepped out for a bit. The initial wave of Seal fear faded and she sat up in bed, releasing her hair from the braid she wore it in to keep it from tangling in the night. Next year, Edward would be old enough to actually enjoy Christmas and his gifts and she'd likely be up at the crack of dawn to go see her nephew open his gifts from Santa. That morning, though, she was looking forward to the Disney parade and pie with her boyfriend. And making a fuss over him while he opened gifts. That bit was always fun.
