Didn't expect to hear myself being debated when I was waiting for coffee.

This what I should expect for the next however many months?

I was really more into art, art and art history -- but it's hard not to look at literature because it's not like anything exists in a void.

Homer. Good stuff, you like the Classics?

I know a little about that too.

There were things we were expected to learn as kids, classic, old masters, history, politics.

Good topics for the guests, sutible careers for later life.

Didnt work out

Yeah, I'm not sure how Ovid prepared me for busting up Nazis in the forties, but that's what a war does. Doesn't matter which it is, it changes your life. I doubt I'll ever end up teaching art classes at Columbia University, but that's just how it's got to be.

Hey the option is there.

I actually like the languages. I'm even tutoring Spanish. Which is beyond weird.

I've got a few other responsibilities these days.

That's not weird.

Even here?

Its pretty weird to me

Well. You pick up that shield, and even if the world changes; you don't put it down.

Languages. It's an interest, it's impressive -- honestly, besides French, German and some Italian (Latin, I guess, but mostly just what I learned in church) nothing I've tried to pick up has really stuck. So I'm impressed -- what else actually interests you?

Any form of the shield is a huge responsibility.

I meant it somewhat metaphorically, but yes. Captain American symbolizes something that is a great deal larger than I could ever be or hope to be, but with the mantle comes a responsibility to protect what that symbol is meant to stand for, I think.

I hope I can live up to the mantle.

And that's why they picked you.

Honestly, I don't know. I have a dozen fake interests I could tell you a lot about. Never really had the time to develop many outside of what I needed to know

I'm really not tha different from anyone else. I just try to do the right thing, I guess.

Well which fake interests stand out more than others?

Im sure they had their reasons, saw something in you that they thought suited it.

Football I guess, more than anything else.

Though actually I guess, whats not fake is the dog. I have one. Named Glen. Tony decided it'd be thereputic or something

Well. I'm really good at getting punched. It's come in handy.

Dogs are great, Bucky and I used to have this stray we used to feed. He'd sleep inside during the winter and then disappear every May, come back around October. He didn't really have a name, Bucky and I always fought over what it was.

What kind of dog is Glen?

Its certainly a skill.

They're generally better than people. More loyal, they stick by you no matter what. I guess he needed his own time sometimes they're like that.

Labrador. He's still fairly young, but its good, having him around

I wonder what happened to him after Bucky and I shipped out

I'm glad you've got him, Labs are great dogs, really friendly, I've always found.

So now we've got football, dogs and Spanish. Do you have a favourite movie?

Yeah. Even if he is some plan of Stark's or other.

Fake favourite? Godfather, II, not I. Better all round story

Not all his ideas are ridiculous, even I'll give him that.

I don't think I've seen those yet. They're on the list.

Just what, 90% of them? 85?

They're actually not bad. Easy enough to find a copy of.

[info]commanderrogers

Well, he's a genius but he's reckless. It's less the ideas, more the execution -- about 90% of the time. But I can't say much, running into fights I know I can't win isn't exactly well-planned tactical maneuvering.

I'll have to look them up. See if Bucky is interested. Has he talked to you at all?

We all do it when it matters. When the stakes are high enough.

He has. Its been interesting. He's a lot more sensible than most of the people from home and he's the one I thought would have most reason to despise me

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]commanderrogers
2014-09-24 12:34 pm UTC (link)
For better or worse, I guess. High stakes and the right reasons, which are probably different for everyone. I guess the only real moral thing a man can do is not compromise. Which is probably what makes us all reckless, but someone has to be. I wonder sometimes if things would have been different for me, for Bucky, if I compromised. Maybe they'd have been better Probably wouldn't have changed his being drafted out

Well, he did listen to everything you said the other night. I'm sure he understands, and that counts for a lot. Even if he doesn't like you.
