Didn't expect to hear myself being debated when I was waiting for coffee.

This what I should expect for the next however many months?

Just what, 90% of them? 85?

They're actually not bad. Easy enough to find a copy of.

Well, he's a genius but he's reckless. It's less the ideas, more the execution -- about 90% of the time. But I can't say much, running into fights I know I can't win isn't exactly well-planned tactical maneuvering.

I'll have to look them up. See if Bucky is interested. Has he talked to you at all?

We all do it when it matters. When the stakes are high enough.

He has. Its been interesting. He's a lot more sensible than most of the people from home and he's the one I thought would have most reason to despise me

For better or worse, I guess. High stakes and the right reasons, which are probably different for everyone. I guess the only real moral thing a man can do is not compromise. Which is probably what makes us all reckless, but someone has to be. I wonder sometimes if things would have been different for me, for Bucky, if I compromised. Maybe they'd have been better Probably wouldn't have changed his being drafted out

Well, he did listen to everything you said the other night. I'm sure he understands, and that counts for a lot. Even if he doesn't like you.

See I'm not sure, because I don't think I comprimised but I'm sure as hell not moral.

Oh he doesn't. He shouldn't. But he listened and its what counts

Have you ever done something you didn't honestly, truthfully want to do?

Yes I have

That's a compromise.

That's why Fury had to lie to me, that's why my mission objectives weren't the same as Natasha's. If he told me to do something I wouldnt do, I wouldn't do it. We didn't always get along, him and I.

That's weakness.

That part of me that tried to get a way out of what I had to do. You can dress it up as a comprimise but it was weak. I had orders, John asked me to kill them, Simmons and her partner Fitz. Could have shot them both, easy. Instead I let them get past me, to the med pod.

I ejected that. I figured maybe they'd have time to work a plan, maybe it'd have a beacon, something.

That wasn't what he'd asked me to do though was it.

I don't think that's a time you compromised, Grant.

I think that's a time you didn't.

It's not the easy way out. You went against orders to give people who you thought deserved a chance that chance.

You did what you felt was right, you didn't compromise.

I could tell you how many times I failed Col. Chester Phillips, how many times I failed Nick Fury.

But I know what I felt when I did it. And I know why.

Its different.

I owed Garrett everything. And I was to weak to follow through on what he asked

Why does Garrett have to be more important than you are?

That's not...

Without him giving me a chance I'd be nothing. He pulled me out of a hell.

He was priority. Had to be

Why? Because if he wasn't your priority he'd do what? Throw you back into hell? That's not a friend.

No.

You're wrong. He just wanted to help me, when he found me I was nothing, weak, pathetic.

He helped me. More than anyone had bothered to do before that.

He was a friend

Same old, same old. Although, starting the company from scratch is harder than it looks.

How are you settling in? Barnes doing alright?

Barnes is doing all right, there's a lot to adjust to.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help?
