I am not that brave. I mean, I only just got here, really, but still. I'm afraid of what I'd see if I found myself online. You like soccer, huh? I've never really got into it, but part of that's probably because it just wasn't a big thing where I grew up.

I...would actually kind of dig that, but don't you need a credential or something to teach? The only thing I know about teaching is what I can remember from my own childhood. Unless substituting is different and the other teacher has lesson plans sort of set up already? A few pointers and some direction - maybe some beers after classes a couple of times to work through anything that comes up - and I would sort of love that.

It'd make a nice change from what I'm used to. Unless third graders these days also have grabby hands and make with the creepy come ons It's probably pretty rough to be the only one "in the know," yeah?

Was a bit pissed when I looked, wasn't I? I'd been avoiding it up until then. Oi! Football. It's bloody football. But...you could say that, yeah. if you missed the part about the firms which was equally if not more imp

Third year is mostly general studies, I think? I teach fifth year history, so I dunno...but for a substitute, there'd be a syllabus already set, I should think. Oi, that's the spirit, darling! Few pints after classes. I used to do that all the time. You'll need a degree, or at least a forgery of one that would certify you as a teacher, but other than that, the position has actually officially been posted just yet...I could put a bug in the principal's ear, so to speak. It'd be temporary, but a start, yeah?

Bit yeah. 've a hunter contact or two, but not in the primary; in the secondary, which makes it a bit more difficult. He's not displaced, though, either...he's a local. So, it's still a bit different.

Yeah...been there, done that with the liquored-up decision making. It could've been worse, right? You could've watched the whole movie instead of just a preview! Maybe I'll give it a watch and let you know how it is. It's soccer. Football is totally differen- Right, sorry! Football. Football for me is a little different. I could also say that you enjoy getting into fights, but I was kinda trying to focus on the positive. ;)

I could totally do general studies! I could also fail miserably but I cannot be a waitress anymore, I just can't. Um...well, I don't exactly have a degree. I finished high school and started community college, but I left before finishing. California and movie stardom was calling. If you said even one nice thing that might just make the principal think of giving me a chance, I will owe you so much more than one. Temporary is great! I can so work with temporary.

Gotcha. On the one hand, I figure it's easier for them since they know this world. On the other, I mean, this is their world. If it all goes to Hell in a handbasket, it's sort of their asses on the line, right?

I did...doesn't end well for me, love If you like. 's not bad, all things considered. Shannon, Matt, and Ben got Right, Yank football is blasphem different. I did, though. I was good at it, too. Once upon a time, yeah?

You'll still need it, darling. Ask 'round. There's lots of types that can fabricate things like that. I'll see what I can do, yeah? What kind of experience have you got with kids?

Suppose you're right, didn't really think of that. To be fair, though, if it goes...we're going down with it, hey? Just as much our world as theirs in that respect.

Well, I could get to know you the old fashioned way, but there's a definite advantage to being able to learn about people from a two hour movie. Football is actually my favorite sport. I get seriously into the games when they're on - especially if Nebraska's playing. You were good at fighting? I'll throw down if I have to, but I usually try to avoid throwing blows. Kicking that girl's ass was totally justified! No one takes advantage of my boys. Or calls me a bitch.

I'm supposed to track down this guy called Connor and ask him to help me get all the papers I'll need to get by here. I'll ask him about degree stuff. Anything you do, I'll appreciate, I promise. And I used to help watch the kids during Sunday Service at Church? Every Sunday from when I was thirteen to eighteen, when I stopped going. Um, in high school, the cheer squad sort of mentored the junior high squad? And, okay, this is going to sound bad, but I know these guys. They're great, but kind of...really childish. One of them...I love the guy, but he can't - let's just say that he needs a lot of extra care. And patience. I'm good at sports, friendly, and I am a pro at board games. None of which qualifies me to be a teacher but points for enthusiasm and ability to think on my feet?

Are we, though? Or would we all get sucked back to our own universes at the point of no return or whatever?

I prefer getting to know people the normal way, but I've no right to ban my own film. I don't mind people watching it, I s'pose, but some of it isn't pretty, love, you should know that ahead. I can't watch American football...is like someone took rugby and made it gay easier to play...with more padding. I was brilliant. Still am ;)

Right, yeah, he's good. Give it a shot and let me know. Sure. So...you used to teach Bible school for the littlest ones, and assisted coaching the junior high school squad, yeah? Follow me on this?

Dunno, that's the question, innit? Only one way to find out 'cept 'm not sure I want to know. I miss home...but 'm happy here. 've already lived longer

So, what you're saying is...it's okay if I watch your movie, but you'd be kinda partial to me using the tried-and-true method of actually talking to you. Hanging out, that sort of thing. And hey! No dissing football. It's a great sport. All those guys running around, throwing a ball and tackling each other. Plus, I mean, half the fun is in the watching with friends part. Hah! You're obviously modest, too. ;)

Will do! And I totally got you. You are the leader and I'm following. That's totally what I did.

If you're happy, I guess that's what matters in the end, right? Location's just details or whatever.

That's what I'm saying, love. Oi, stop calling it football because I know that means in your head you're calling actually football bloody soccer. Bit more modest about things other than my fighting skills, if that makes it any better heh

Brilliant.

Agreed.

What? No way! I would never call it bloody soccer. Just, yanno, soccer. because that's totally what it is, c'mon Have you ever actually watched or been to a game? You should give it the ol' college try before writing it off. Heh, confidence is great sometimes. Just not, like, all the time? So: definitely helps!

My eyes are bleeding reading that, hey. Calling your "football" football doesn't even make sense, darling, there's barely any footwork involved. I did when I first got here because football was out of season. It's bollocks.

Hah! There's running, moving for offensive and defensive positioning, kicking...it's kinda making sense to me. You just also get amazing throwing and dudes slamming into each other. Best. Sport. Ever. What's soccer got going for it?

Oi. Please do not act as though American "football" players don't do the very same, grabbing one another's uniforms to get the clock to stop. And if you attempt to say that this has never happened in an American "football" game, I'll have you know I watched an entire game on telly back home once with my sister-in-law and it was quite nearly the same lack of scoring.

Your blokes wear their own weight in padding like a bunch of cun babies. Real men take the hits. We also don't need loads of bouncing girls screaming for us to do well for it to happen Best thing about American "football" is halftime.

The clock doesn't really stop, but soccer players sure do like to casually pass the ball back and forth to waste minutes. WORSE. At least both teams get a breather when the clock is stopped. :P I'm not saying there's never been a tie in a football game over here, but that's pretty darn rare. Plus, crashing into each other, remember? The ball flying through the air in a beautiful arc... I really hope college football is still a thing in this universe

Blah, blah. Your guys don't even get hit most of the time. Skinned knees are nothing. I could take a harder hit than Beckham. To be clear: the best thing is the cheerleaders or the marching band?

Real footballs fly in an arc when they're kicked or headbutted properly!

...you've watched soccer. You've not seen a proper West Ham match, have you, love? And you probably could, he's a pouf. The cheerleaders, if 'm being honest. Though, if by marching band you mean the celebrity flavour of the month, sometimes I'd probably prefer that.

You keep saying that, but I'll take an eighty yard pass into the End Zone over bouncing a ball of someone's head any day of the week.

West Ham, what? I've seen a World Cup match, does that count? And hey! Beckham's... HOT a legend or something. Okay, well, cheerleaders are pretty awesome but they're supposed to boost team spirit, not take your attention away from the game. How many games have you watched and were the players in high school? No way you pick them over the Huskers.

"West Ham, what?" ...you're joking. Right? You're joking? Close enough, I s'pose. That's saying something, for a Yank, anyway. Good on you, love. ...never watched a high school game. Went to one once, but it was to keep an eye on a suspected dem Huskers?

I'm actually serious, but if it'll make you feel better I can definitely pretend I'm joking. And excuse me, but I know enough to know our ladies soccer team kicks all kinds of ass internationally. "For a Yank?" Pfft. High school games are...more about school spirit than mind-blowing plays. Huskers, yeah! University of Nebraska?

Done! Consider me a big ol' pretender. LOL well, it's kinda hard to miss the hoopla in the media about them come those big events in soccer. Um, I didn't go there but I'm from Nebraska so it's kind of a "root, root, root for the home team" sorta thing.

Oh, I've seen games, sweetie. I was just also eleven when our gals won gold at the Olympics that year women's soccer first made it into the games. And I'm pretty yay in general about girls kicking butt, so I make the exception to watch Team USA dominate our international competition. I meant that most anyone you ask probably knows about our ladies soccer team. :P

Also, huzzah! This really nice guy named Connor says he's got me covered with the credentials and stuff and I should be officially - on paper, at least - qualified to be a sub on Monday.

Bollocks you sound like that Darcy bint with the "sweeties" Fair point. I pay little attention to the teams outside of the UK, if 'm being honest. I ought to fix that now that I'm in the land of the Yanks, yeah?
