WHO: Caroline and Matt
WHAT: Coping
WHERE: Matt’s place
WHEN: today
WARNINGS: Feels. Lots of them.
Ever since Jeremy’s post, Caroline had been moving about in a bit of a fog. Functioning as best she could. Forcing herself to attend classes, but beyond that she wasn’t up for anything social. Homework was done and she was beyond thankful that there were no group projects on the horizon because the mere thought of interacting with people she didn’t know all that well seemed like too strenuous an activity to even contemplate. But that didn’t mean she wanted to be alone. Solitude was the last thing she wanted or needed, but she only wanted to be around certain people. And while she’d been thankful for all the concern, she had no clue what to say when anyone asked if there was anything they could do.
Could they bring Elena back?
Could they make it that she wasn’t going home to only die and become a vampire?
What was the point of anything if that couldn’t be altered?
Maybe things would eventually get better for her friend as a vampire, but from what Caroline knew of the future, it really didn’t seem that way. Aside from eventually graduating, the future didn’t seem to improve all that much. If anything it seemed like a gigantic mess that just continued to get messier and Caroline had no clue how any of them were supposed to make sense of it.
Sure, Lawrence was the middle of an Apocalypse, but she’d truly believed that maybe things could be just a bit better there. Elena could live the life she really wanted. Matt had his sister. She was embarking on her own personal journey that seemed to be going well. Devil be damned.
Elena’s departure had ripped that idea from the seams and while all of them seemed to be coping in their own ways, it was Matt that Caroline was worried the most about. She’d seen him the other day and he had seemed lost, depressed, and she didn’t like that look on her friend. Didn’t like how awful he seemed to be and the talk of being able to ‘function by then’ had told her all she’d needed to know about how hard he was taking Elena’s disappearance.
So after class, she made her way to Matt’s apartment, not bothering with bringing any alcohol this time. She had a feeling he probably had his own supply if he still needed to get drunk.
She knocked on the door, wondering if he was capable of moving or even up at the moment. She’d push her way inside if she needed to and for a brief moment she was afraid maybe he'd been sent home as well and god, what did she do if that happened?
He was getting about thirty more seconds before she busted down the door.
