Elphaba was going completely stir crazy at being cooped up indoors for the most part. She was all ready sick of watching movies or TV, and she'd finished all of her books. It was hard for her to find ways to entertain herself, and she didn't like being bored. Sitting on her bed, she was playing with her monkeys and feeding them by hand. She longed to teach them to talk, but she didn't think the animals of this world could ever learn to. She missed Chistery deeply, as well as her other monkeys that she'd freed from the Wizard's clutches. She wondered if they missed her, or if time had simply frozen. She hoped time had frozen, for she wouldn't want to leave her monkeys alone, prone to being captured by the Wizard all over again.
The Wizard. Oh how she hated him, though she hated him only slightly less than she hated Madame Morrible. She stood against their treachery, while Galinda had stood with them, going along with whatever they wanted. It had irked Elphaba, knowing her friend was working with the people that sought to bring her down. And to think Elphaba had nearly fallen for the Wizard's ploy to get her back on their side, to be "rehabilitated" so that all of Oz would love her. But then she'd found Doctor Dillamond in with the winged monkeys, and the deal was off. Elphaba vowed to fight the Wizard until the day she died after seeing what he had done to her favorite professor. It had all been little more than a whirlwind from that point on. Fiyero had come to the Wizard's aid, but ended up leaving with her. Sure, she'd dreamt of being that girl but she never thought she actually would be. But as quickly as she and Fiyero had professed their love for each other, everything was ripped away from her again. Her sister had been in trouble, but she'd arrived too late. Nessa was dead, killed by a house falling on her. Then Fiyero died, sacrificing himself so she could escape. Elphaba had tried her hardest to save him, casting a spell that would allow him to survive any torture he might endure, but she was certain her spell came too late.
Suddenly, Elphaba shook her head, an icy look crossing her face. Why was she thinking about all that now? She glanced over at her clock and saw the hour. With a sigh, she shook her head. It was the time of the night when her ghosts shadowed her, haunting her every thought. But she couldn't bear just sitting here tonight. She needed to get outside, go for a walk. Walking did help ease her thoughts, but only slightly. Especially since she knew she had to talk to Galinda and tell her about everything in Oz. It was only fair, and she knew if she would ever have the courage to tell her friend how she truly felt about her, she'd want her to know the truth of everything first. She would want Galinda to choose to be with her because she loved her despite everything the green-skinned witch had done. That is, if Galinda even would feel that way about her. Elphaba was convinced the blonde only saw her as a friend and that she was still very much in love with Fiyero.
Standing up, Elphaba walked over to her closet and pulled out her black cloak. She wrapped it around herself, then glanced at her monkeys for a moment before she quietly opened the door to her room. Closing it behind her, she slipped down the stairs quietly, by now knowing where all the creaky boards were so she could avoid them. She slipped her way down to the main floor, then out the front door. Once outside, she made a quick escape, using her black cloak and black dress to help blend her with the shadows and darkness of the night. Once she was out of the direct line of sight of her home, she slowed to a walk. She was a little self-conscious about being outside with her green skin, but should she encounter anyone, she could easily use her cloak to hide her face, neck and hands, which was the only visible skin on her body.
It wasn't long before she came upon a park and she took a little path around it. The night had a way of stripping away all securities and leaving one feeling vulnerable and alone. Elphaba hated the night, but the fresh air was helping to quiet her mind a little. Nothing ever truly calmed her, except for Galinda, but she wasn't exactly wanting to talk to the blonde right then. As she walked, her gaze was focused on the ground just in front of her, not really paying attention to where she was going. She let herself drift through her thoughts, trying to find some thought she could settle on and calm herself with.
