"Likewise." She gave him a little nod, a little twitch of the corner of her mouth as she gave him a small smile. Elphaba wasn't exactly in the smiling mood, but she wanted to be nice. Anything that could potentially chase away her dark thoughts was welcome. She also welcomed any company at night. Her whole life, she had secretly hated and feared the night. Night was the only time when she actually left completely alone. As a child, when she'd wake in the night from nightmares, no one had answered her cries. Or if her father had heard, he'd merely tell her to be quiet and go back to sleep. Eventually, she just learned to keep it all inside. Even now when nightmares woke her in the night, she would merely cling to a pillow and keep her fears to herself.
"Nor I. Before I ended up in this place, I was used to running from place to place and staying hidden." She wasn't quite sure why she'd just said that, but perhaps it was the fact the night made her feel more vulnerable and open. Or the fact that she actually felt a bit calmer with someone to talk to. Talking to someone that wasn't there only went so far to calm Elphaba, and sometimes she felt like she was crazy speaking out loud to no one. Having someone there really did mean a lot to her. Perhaps this was why she'd felt so restless lately. In five years, she really hadn't had a home. Well, there was Fiyero's castle that she'd fled to, but she hadn't been there long before she ended up here. While she did like not having to wonder where she would lay her head down at night, she couldn't help but feel a little tied down.
Now with the messed up powers, she felt even more tied down. She couldn't go outside without Bonnie casting the charm spell on her, and she hated relying on someone else to do such things for her. True, she'd viewed her powers as a curse, but now that she didn't have them, she knew just what she had. It was like that saying, you never know what you have until it's gone. Elphaba had tried so hard not to take things for granted in life, for she herself had been taken for granted, but she had taken her powers for granted. When she'd get her powers back, she'd be even more careful with them, but she'd also cherish them. These were abilities she'd had all her life, she'd never been a "normal" person, so to live as one now was incredibly strange and frustrating to her.
"Sometimes they do. Things have been slow lately, but there are also periods where things are quite lively. So I'm sure there will be plenty of action soon enough." If there was one thing Elphaba had learned in her few months here, it was that things didn't stay quiet for very long. Sure, things weren't exactly quiet with the current state of people's powers, but they weren't busy tracking down a demon or fighting. Soon enough, there would be another fight of some sort with plenty of action to satisfy everyone that needed some.
