Your onboarding is efficient, I’ll give you that.  Government red tape at home would’ve had me sitting in a waiting room and filling out forms for at least three days. And the apartment is, well. No offense, but it’s kind of ridiculous. I’ve spent months on entire spaceships smaller than that apartment. Your budget probably needs a massive overhau

Anyway. Uh I’ve never been very good at social media Thank you. For explaining the situation and telling me where to find Tennal Halkana. A few more days and he’d probably have charmed his way to the head of a gang or been exiled into the woods and tracking him down would’ve been a lot harder. I’m better at catching farm animals than people.

Oh. My name’s is Surit.  So. Yeah. Hello.

Give him time. He'll find them all and make a few new ones as he goes.

Ah, one of those, eh? I'm reformed of that life. Mostly. I'm a teacher so I'm a bit of an example, now. But the truth is there's a lot less deadly trouble here than there was at home.

That might be true for us too, I'm not sure yet. What do you teach? If you don't mind me asking.

Civics, at a high school level. It's not where I saw myself, but I've been enjoying the challenge. What's home like for you both?

Teaching is an honorable profession that doesn't get nearly enough respect. What did you do before?

It's mostly politics and military stress. I grew up on a farming planet. Tennal is the nephew of a legislator and grew up in the seat of government for the sector. Our homes were very different.

Caused problems for myself. I believe the terminology you'd be familiar with here was "I was in research".

Ah - it sounds like you've seen two very different sides of things. I was insulated from a lot of the worst of things growing up, but that changed as soon as I left the privilege and safety of home. Is there a reason Sydney is referring to your friend as space boy?

Was it a tricky transition? Or did you just learn to cause problems for your students instead?

I assume it's because he was a ranker for a hot second. Or because he's grown up with the ability to travel between planets. Space travel was common at home. Where did you grow up that it was so isolated?

Hopefully my students will learn to question authority in a clever way... by my example. I did a lot of reading before I accepted the position. It was a monarchy, where I was from, so I got to learn about other forms of government. I'm still learning, which I enjoy.

Space travel! That's so foreign to me. I'm as of late of the Lands Between, but before that I lived in the Carian manor. My family ruled the Lands, but not me - I wasn't that important, just a nerd with good clothing.

If you want to hear about ours sometime, I suggest bugging Tennal.

The Lands Between. Sounds like a fantasy novel. Did you like it there?

Oh, I will. He sounds fun.

I--- more than I likely should have. It was more of a Purgatory, really, if you're familiar with that concept. We were all dead, reborn anew... soon to be dead again, with the wrong misstep. We did have dragons though, which people are always excited to hear about. And some are here, as well!

A lot more fun than me, promise.

I can't wrap my head around dragons right now Were the dragons why you liked it there?

You don't seem so bad!

Not really. I liked the libraries.

I'm just not an extrovert. I leave that socializing magic to better men.

Oh. Much more my speed. Magic libraries?
