I went out looking for some winter-type flowers to kind of dot around the house in pots (sorry in advance if you're against this, Bells Hells) and found that there are a lot of common flowers that seem to be connected to Christmas and the other holidays around now. It got me thinking and my thinking turned into me making a mental list and snapping pictures of some of my favorites, some I think aren't particularly attached to the holiday.
Or maybe they are traditional for these holidays? I don't know, I'm a Winter's Crest celebrator.
Anyway, here's the official list of flowers/plants and their meanings that I, Orym, think are pretty good for winter holidays. The list title is a work in progress. I'm not the words guy, clearly.
Anthuriums are pretty striking and they technically don't have a traditionally holiday meaning since they're usually associated with love and passion, but they're red and green and I figure that counts. They're really cool looking.
Amaryllis can come in these really spectacular patterns of red and white that remind me a lot of the peppermint candies that seem to be pretty popular around now. The flower itself is said to represent strength and determination, which I like. They're also ones where once the blooms are done, the bulb will resprout if you keep them in a cool, dark spot or use Druidcraft on them, wherever your patience hits.
So, not a flower and is more an addition for cooking and smelling great, but rosemary has a great smell, kind of looks like a pinetree, and also is known for being a symbol for remembrance. A lot of the traditions for this season has me remembering people and places in my past, so it felt fitting to include.
And finally, here's my favorite: paperwhites. They mean rebirth and renewal. They're an early spring flower normally, but you can grow them indoors real easy and they also bloom quick. Probably not quick enough to actually be blooming by this year's Christmas, but before spring hits.
Anyway, this is a lot of talking/typing for me, so wrapping it up. You should go to Yasha's if you're looking for flowers. Perfuma is great and the selection is real nice.
