Happy almost Beltane, everyone.
Saturday, May 1 is the Beltane Fire Festival, and like the other celebrations on the Wheel of the Year, there's going to be lots to do. Beltane celebrates the return of summer, the fertility of the land, and honors life. Expect talk of rituals to protect cattle and crops. Covens will light a fire on the last night of April, and will keep it burning until the sun sets on May 1. You'll likely see people jumping over the fire, herding cattle around the fire, and other potentially risky fire moves. Please be careful. Beltane translates to something close to/along the lines of 'bright fire' and the Beltane fire is a big part of the celebration, which purifies and heals. You'll probably also notice an abundance of flowers going up, there will be Maypole dancing, and as always, food and celebration. There will also be a crowning of May Queen(s) and/or May Kings(s). If you're in the woods at night, expect to run into couples out there. Or maybe you will be one of the couples out there.
Have fun!
If anyone wants more information, I have books and readings on the history of Beltane within Vallo that I can recommend or lend.
CAROLINE.
Are you free tonight? I need drinks. There is drama at work and I do not have the patience.
