Who: Jack Harkness and Mia Jesbar
What: Drinking, at the Star Wars cantina
When/Where: Right the heck now-ish, starting in Central Park
Warnings: PG-13 for intense flirting situations, and much much boozing.

Jack couldn't help but hum along with the makeshift radio in the ship as he set her down, admittedly glad to be doing something social for once. He loved his family of course- and there were certainly plenty of them to keep things interesting- but he was above all else a social man. He needed the company of people he could talk to without the constant reminder of... everything.

Today, that person was Mia, which only served to make Jack's smirk wider. Not only was she beautiful (and unfortunately taken, Jack kept having to remind himself), but she was one of the good platonic friends Jack had in thsi place, which made her even more special in a way. It took a lot to keep Jack's attention without sex, but somehow, she managed.

Hopping down from the wing, he turned the invisibility shield on, and started towards the bridge where he and Mia usually met, looking around to see if she'd actually beaten him to the punch. Also not easy to do to a time traveler, but she was good.

"And being expected to remember and the accumulation of family, and descendants. Avoiding ex-lover, evading taxes, staying out of jail, and changing your name every fifty years or so, to avoid the governments realizing you don't age. It's hell on a guy's social life," He had to grin at that, before settling into the silence, sipping at his drink.

Mia listened carefully and took another drink. "I used to do some of that, but I bet if I dimension hopped as much as you do, I'd probably get tired of all of it too. I mean, I get tired of just this vortex world, especially when crazy time hits. And you have enough descendants you need a picture family tree. Or a forest, maybe," she said with a teasing wink.

Jack laughed at that, shaking his head a little at the comment. "Trust me, I've lived the boring life. Really stuck in one place, no friends, no one else that's... different. It's not the better side of the coin." He sighed, finishing off his glass and pouring another, through the slight lurch that signified the ship coming out of subspace.

"Ah. Here we are. Now," A few buttons pressed, and a map appeared, complete with some sort of calendar. "Look familiar?"

Mia looked at the map and calendar quickly. Her eyes started to widen. "Yes! This is it! Yes!" She had a wide grin and was nearly ready to bounce off the walls. So instead, she got out of her chair and hugged Jack around the neck, planting an excited, platonic kiss on his cheek.

She went back to looking at the calendar. "This is definitely it. Though the year looks like... a lot earlier than my time period. This has to be Qui-Gon's time period."

"Outstanding, beautiful. I mean... it's alright, right? We're not walking in on another war?" That wasn't a comment on her- he had had enough instances of walking right into the middle of standoffs, to not want a repeat performance.

Mia shook her head with a tiny grin. "This is before the galaxy starts having a war every 20 years or so. We're safe. I mean, there's still little wars, but nothing galactic. I can't believe we got here this fast. It can take 2 weeks in an X-wing to get across the galaxy. So... it should take no time to get to Coruscant?" It was a question asking if he wanted to go, then she remembered he'd never seen the movies. "It's basically the capital. The planet is one huge city."

Jack tilted his head with another thousand-watt grin, nodding slightly at the end. "Sounds like the place to be, then. Point it out, and I'll set the coordinates. Should take about five minutes, out of subspace." He set his glass aside, looking over the map of the area curiously.

"Anything I should know, by the way? Strange cultural rituals, forced nudity, that sort of thing?" He was, mostly, joking. But it never hurt to ask.

"It's right there in the Core Worlds region, just on the edge of the Deep Core." She pointed to a spot almost right in the center of the galaxy map."

Mia shook her head. "Nah, nothing like that. It's insanely busy though, and has levels that go down as deep as... I don't know if anyone really knows. They just keep building more levels on top of each other. I love seeing Coruscant at this time, before the Empire took over and before the Vong ravaged it."

A closer look, and Jack entered the coordinates into the computer, listening to her story with interest.

"Huh. You'll have to show me around. Busy I like, but I don't have a great sense of direction. Go figure."

"You want me to fly? I don't know what kinda worlds you've been to, but Corsucant can be crazy depending on the time of day. New York rush hour traffic times 20 cause you got all the different space lanes. And depends where you wanna go. We can hit a cantina." She grinned at the idea of being home again.

When they materialized above the traffic, he just laughed, righting himself to slide out of the seat.

"Yeah, I think this is probably on you."

She closed her eyes as they materialized, since all the Force sensitives in much closer proximity nearly assailed her senses. In a few moments, she had her shields up and opened her eyes to the best sight ever that was the Coruscant skies. It was like coming back home to the best bedtime storybook ever.

Mia grinned, more than happy to have the opportunity to fly again, especially here. She maneuvered Jack's ship easily into the nearest traffic lane, or at least, she made it look easy at the speeds they were going. Within a few minutes, she'd taken the ship through several dizzying lane changes until they were at a landing pad and could set the ship down.

"I don't have an identity in this timeline, but can whip one up for myself real fast so we can have credit chips to get drinks -- unless your ship's magical and has ways of spouting out the local currency?" she teased.

Jack watched with fascination as the traffic wizzed by them, unashamed to be impressed by a new locale- it was rare for him to be somewhere this different, and he wanted to take it all in. Once she set them down, he turned his attention back to her, scoffing at the tease.

"Oh, please. Amateur stuff," He rifled through his coat, pulling out an old leather folio, about the size of an identification card. Opening it, she would see whatever a valid local ID looked like, complete with Jack's picture and believable information. When she blinked a few seconds later, it would be blank.

"Psychic paper. It can show anything you want, or anything someone else expects to see, with just a bit of personal belief." He patted the folio against his hand, and stood. "Think that'll be good enough to get you some credits, or will we need a plan?

Mia stared, and it was her turn to be very impressed. "Kriff, Jack. Can I get one of those sometime?"

"As long as they believe we have a credit account set up, or just set up a tab at the cantina, it won't be hard. Come on, there's a good place just a few levels down, not far from here."

He laughed, with another lopsided grin/shrug combination. "Yeah, no problem. They're commonplace, back home."

Standing, he climbed up the ladder and opened the hatch, pulling himself onto the roof before reaching down to help Mia do the same.

Again, even though she didn't need it, Mia took his hand and let him help her. She only did that with people that knew she didn't need the help.

Taking in a deep breath once they were out of the ship, Mia felt like this was a dream. "I never thought I'd be able to come back here," she said as they climbed down.

Jack smiled, watching her look around to share in the feeling a bit. "I know the feeling. I mean... not like. The other me, he was Earthbound for years from what he said. I thought just the few was bad. But... to actually get out again, go to some of my old homes? It's... nice. I'm glad we could."

Mia smiled over at him. "Next trip, your pick. Anywhere you want." She led him out of the hangar down to the street level to find the nearest lift going down. Pedestrian traffic was pretty heavy too, but Mia seemed to not even notice it. She was so happy looking around at the littlest things, she was almost glowing. At seeing certain types of ships or certain species walking by or even a holo ad on an overhang, she almost squealed. Her happiness might've been infectious.

"First time I got back here in the last reality?" she finally said to Jack in explanation. "I went to Naboo and I actually cried. And I never cry. When I got pulled back by the vortex, I didn't think I'd be back home again."

Plenty used to the future-metropolis feel, Jack fell into step next to Mia easily, admittedly glancing around with even more wonder than her own. Thankfully, he had a certain intergalactic poise that kept him from looking like a complete tourist, so he didn't offend anyone while he took in the sights.

At her words, he smiled sincerely. "Well, I'm happy to help you out. You'd do the same, right?" He nudged her jokingly.

"Of course," she replied as she tugged on his jacket sleeve to pull him into the next available lift. "I owe you anything you want." Even Jack Harkness? "Almost anything," she amended. "Do you mean something in particular?"

Her energy and excitement were causing her to talk a little faster than usual, and her thoughts were tumbling around a little fast to focus well.

"Oh, damn," He faked disappointment well, when she amended herself, before laughing softly. "No, I just meant, you'd help me if things were reversed,"

He noticed the added speed to her words, but let it go- he got the same way, sometimes, and was competent enough to keep up, at least for now.

Mia laughed too. "Of course I'd help you. That's what friends are for. And family."

"This is it," she said when the lift stopped a few levels down, and made her way past the others in the lift out to the new street level. The natural light had a harder time reaching down here, so it was darker and there were more manufactured lights around. "Cantina's not far. It's not totally a seedy dive, but I think it has just the right atmosphere. Good jizz band, too."

Jack didn't comment on that, just gave Mia a more sincere smile as he followed her out of the lift.

His eyes adjusted easily to the light, and he listened to her explanation. There was the mental equivolent of a '?!' at the description of the band that she probably felt, but years of necessary diplomacy stopped him from making the joke.

If barely.

Mia was open to everything around her to sort of drink things in better with the Force, so she was confused for a few seconds at Jack's reaction. Then she realized. "Oh, come on, is your mind in the gutter all the... never mind. It's jazz, okay? It's jazz music." She shook her head while laughing.

He immediately looked both jokingly offended, and properly embarassed. "If you heard that out of context, with my background, what would you think? I didn't say anything," Of which he sounded extremely proud. "Besides, translators usually use a cultural equivolent for things like that. So when it didn't... thoughts." He did well to block off that particular train of thought, so she didn't have to be subjected to the images.
