Who: Jack Harkness and Mia Jesbar
What: Drinking, at the Star Wars cantina
When/Where: Right the heck now-ish, starting in Central Park
Warnings: PG-13 for intense flirting situations, and much much boozing.

Jack couldn't help but hum along with the makeshift radio in the ship as he set her down, admittedly glad to be doing something social for once. He loved his family of course- and there were certainly plenty of them to keep things interesting- but he was above all else a social man. He needed the company of people he could talk to without the constant reminder of... everything.

Today, that person was Mia, which only served to make Jack's smirk wider. Not only was she beautiful (and unfortunately taken, Jack kept having to remind himself), but she was one of the good platonic friends Jack had in thsi place, which made her even more special in a way. It took a lot to keep Jack's attention without sex, but somehow, she managed.

Hopping down from the wing, he turned the invisibility shield on, and started towards the bridge where he and Mia usually met, looking around to see if she'd actually beaten him to the punch. Also not easy to do to a time traveler, but she was good.

Mia was usually good like that, but she'd taken a few minutes to say bye to Jamie, in several senses of the word, then taken Isabel outside so Jamie wouldn't have to for awhile.

She used the Force to time it just right so she'd arrive just after Jack did. She smiled as she approached him on the bridge and moved in to hug him lightly. They saw each other nearly every day at work, but it was nice to meet outside of work, too. "Hey, you. You sure you're okay?"

He smiled one of his thousand-watt smiles as they hugged, feeling a lot better just being around her- without the threat of bodily harm, of course.

"Yeah, it's fine. Drinks now, talk later?" He figured at the least they should start the conversation in the air, to limit the weird looks from the civilians. With a little joking bow, he offered out his arm, waiting for her to accept before leading the way to his ship

"Sure." Though Jack knew it didn't take much alcohol to start getting her to spill her innermost thoughts, and she would be doing the listening tonight.

With a soft chuckle, she took Jack's arm. "Always the gentleman. How's Raven and John?"

"Oh, they're great. He's getting huge, she's sexy as ever." There was a slight melancholy there, Jack still feeling a little guilt over not having been around to see his son born, but they were here now, and that was all that really mattered.

"The island's starting to get crowded, but in a good sort of way. Familiar chaos," He laughed a little at that, dry, as they stepped up to the ship, and he turned off the shield so he could climb up and offer her a hand.

"How's the boytoy?"

She smiled at Jack's description, though looked up at him with a little tilt to her head. "But...? And I'm glad you guys are back. We're just missing Terry."

"I just think it's funny you guys need your own island. Was there... was that my imagination or did another... family member show up?" Mia didn't need help of course, but she took his hand all the same.

Her mouth settled into a smirk of a barely contained laugh. "He's fine. He's great."

Jack gave her a wry smile as he helped her onto the wing. "But, I still sort of regret missing the birth. His first few months. It'd be nice to actually have a baby for once, you know?" A beat, "Don't go repeating that." There was a jokingly stern look, before he led the way over to the hatch and wrenched it open.

"Yeah, yeah, laugh at the cult. And no, you weren't imagining it. Two more, actually. And supposedly they're waiting on a third. It's like Gray and I are having some sort of cosmic pissing contest, about who can have more kids." He slid down the ladder into the ship itself, turning back and smiling at her. "Great, huh?" The tone was suggestive enough that he didn't have to elaborate.

Mia actually laughed at the baby comment, thinking of all his grown-up kids. She added a little more seriously, "Hey, you were there when he was born. Trust me. And he's still a baby, especially in comparison."

"Oh, sounds really great," she replied with the same tone as she made her way down the ladder a little more carefully before studying Jack for a moment. "I don't know how you do it. I dunno how you put up with so many kids from the future. I would've lost it by now... which is why we're going out drinking again, isn't it?" she realized with a half-smile.

"We are going drinking because it's Friday. The fact that there's more kids is just the icing on the booze-flavored cake," He shrugged at the rest, moving to drape himself over the pilot's chair.

"To tell the truth? Weirder things have happened, than unexplained family. Traveling with the Doctor sort of strips any sanity you have left. It's the bickering and the disappointment that starts to get to you," Despite the melancholy feeling, his tone was conversational- he didn't really want to dwell. At least not until he had a drink or five in him.

Mia sensed she was pushing a little early and dropped the subject. She took a minute to look around Jack's ship, since she always loved his ship, before settling in the co-pilot's chair. "What's it like with the Doctor? Does it make the vortex world look... well, normal? I've seen a few of those shows with Jamie."

Jack chuckled, going through the pre-flight effortlessly. "If anything could make this place look normal, it would be the Doc, yeah. I mean, this wasn't really a shock for me, if only because we knew alternate universes existed. We also knew it was damn imposible to get home. Once you get past that, everything else is details. But... the man's a card. Always knows the interesting spots to hit, always seems to get himself into and out of trouble neatly. I think you'd like him."

"Getting out of trouble neatly is something I'm definitely interested in," Mia said with a tiny chuckle. "In my... in the last reality, the one I was in for a few weeks, I got to go home. Since it's fictional and all, I guess it's easy for God to do. And there were these godboxes she made and you could go to any real or fictional location you wanted."

Mia's voice got a little softer with a nostalgic tone towards the end as she remembered.

Noticing the tone, Jack gave her a little glance, frowning slightly. "Where's home?"

He'd hardly been everywhere, but he had yet to find some place that he couldn't reach at least a version of. If Gallifrey and the Little Six were around, it would be worth trying, he figured.

"You know, the Star Wars galaxy. Harbisyn system for me, though I was kinda all over the place." She glanced over at him. "You thinking of trying to get there? Someone suggested it with the ship you got for me, but even if it was out there, which I doubt, I wouldn't have a clue how to find it." She leaned forward and put an elbow on the edge of the console to rest her chin in her hand as she looked out the viewport.

He shrugged a little. "I figured it couldn't hurt. I'm guessing you can read a starmap?" He brought up a screen that was a basic 2D layout of the local start systems, hitting a few buttons to scroll it out to a galactic view. "Anything at all look familiar? I don't know your definition of 'far, far away'."

"Probably really far, far away," she said with a chuckle. "But that's someone else's words, not mine." Mia leaned in closer to look at the starmap.

"We're our own galaxy, and I've seen maps of it before, and I know there's at least one other galaxy sorta nearby, but I don't know what it looks like. Is this everything? I mean, how many galaxies are out there?"

Jack just laughed, shaking his head and hitting another button, causing the map to zoom out exponentially, although still somehow recognizable, at least by the shape of the galaxies.

"That's within about ten years of shift- about ten percent of what we could reach, if we tried. Anything yet?"

Mia grinned a little. "I knew you wouldn't let me down."

As she talked, she went back to studying each galaxy carefully, looking for her home. "We don't have to look for it or go there tonight, you know. What was that planet you said you wanted to go to again? In the Lexi-something system?"

Another shrug, "You're right, we don't. But I think we both know I just wanted a distraction. I'm not attached to the boozing as much as I let on," He gave her a lopsided smile, before getting back to her question. "Lexicari. Little string of terraformed desert planets- don't know why they needed to make more of them, but it does have a certain charm. Sort of like Earth Arizona, in a way."

Mia gave him a look that said she knew he wasn't an alcoholic or anything. "Or like Tatooine?" she suggested. She continued searching grids of the different starmaps he had on file.

"How many of these have you been to? This is incredible. I wonder if the Force still exists in all of them?"

There was an incredulous sound at that. "Oh, I've only been to a fraction of the systems, in any one given time. Moving in four dimensions really adds up. That program's sort of like an atlas, of all of the flagged and inhabited planets. Your homeworld... it'd be populated enough to be on a map, right?" He didn't mean the question to be offensive, just for academic reasons.

"It's a little smaller than some, but still pretty well populated. Especially Coruscant--" she stopped and looked over at Jack. "Wait, if this is a timeship too, then you can pick any time period for any galaxy then, right?" Her mind suddenly reeled with the possibilities. Just like before.

"I don't know what the current time period would be on default, but we could find out. If we go there, would people I know still be there? Would I have vanished from there? Or would another me be there?" Still diligently looking through all the starmaps, until one looked familiar and she zoomed in for a closer look.

Her question made him squint in a thoughtful way, leaning back so she could get a better view of the area of the map. "Of course, any time, any galaxy. And... Well, maybe yes, maybe no, for your friends. I know enough of the planets here to trust that the maps are accurate, and the rocks themselves are there. But some of the people I've expected to meet weren't there, or didn't remember me... then again, some did. I think it depends on which universe the information came from, and if it was the same one as yours."

Mia nodded thoughtfully too. "Then again, how does it work, or does it really matter since we're all fictional? Do we come from the stories or do the stories come from us?"

She had an instinct she was barely aware of to hit the button to go over one more section on the map. "Wait. I think... this might be." She zoomed in further and sat up straight. "Jack? I think this is..." Goosebumps traveled up her arms and back and settled on her head. The Force seemed to be focused on that area. That galaxy had to be it. Was it? Could it be?

"You know, that I don't know," Jack couldn't help but smile when he saw how excited Mia became, glancing over the coordinate entries for the galaxy.

"We could make that, if you wanted. No time like the present, right?" He was already keying in the destination, having a feeling she wasn't going to turn him down, after that sort of reaction.

Mia was excited, but also a little nervous. She wasn't sure she wanted to get her hopes up. "Let's do it. How long will it take to get there?"
