Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley.
What: Ron pays Hermione a little visit at the Library.
Where: Library.
When: Evening
Rating: TBD
Status: Incomplete.
Hermione really was in a weird mood. After her conversation with Ginny the other night she couldn't help but let those thoughts and emotions take control. Being in a relationship was something new and completely frightening to her. This was something she could truly fail at. What if she need up not being what Ron had really wanted? Logically she knew that she was more than just Ron. That if she and Ron didn't work out that there was a reason and she would continue on with her life, knowing that at least she tried. It was all such a strange line of thought. She and Ron had hardly been dating a week and she was already contemplating all sorts of things. Things she clearly had no reason to be thinking about.

Nestled back in the farthest corner at her favorite table she closed her journal. She did not need to be looking at that thing. She had come to the library to get things done. She'd been behind in her work and this was a perfect chance for her to get caught up. Ron, once again, had been her source of distraction. The last thing Hermione had wanted to do was fight with him, but it seemed that wasn't the plan for the day. Sighing quietly she rested back in her chair and pulled those out of control locks up into a tight bun. Her hair was frustrating her! Constantly falling into her face and Hermione had enough frustrations.

It was time to get back to work! Taking her quill in hand she began to chew lightly on the end. Her free hand flipped through the book of centaurs, trying to find exactly the thing she was looking for.

Ron, completely unaware that Hermione had gone to have a conversation with his sister that would leave her head spinning, just thought Hermione was in a weird mood. He figured it was normal, after all, they'd both been in kind of weird moods since they officially started dating. It was new to them, something he thought they were probably both happy about and scared of at the same time. If things didn't work out, would they ever be able to be friends again? Would they be able to be anything?

Ron was already in Diagon Alley. He had no clue where else to go after being kicked out of his flat by the Ministry. It was absolutely packed, completely full of witches and wizards who were in the same predicament that he was. He fidgeted in the middle of the street, people jostling him from both sides, as he tried to figure out if he should just go to the library or make a quick stop first. Sure, they had talked about it before, joked about it really, but would she flip out if he took it seriously? Would she appreciate it in her current state of mind?

Propelled by the more male side of him, Ron ducked into a clothing shop and made his way to the lingerie section. In what had to be the most awkward and embarrassing purchase of his life, he selected and paid for a bra and panty set, both in orange lace. However embarrassing it was to have the knickers packed into an impossibly tiny gift box, it would be worse to admit that the only reason he knew what size to buy was because he'd gone through her underwear drawer the morning after he'd stayed the night. He could just imagine the horror that would occur if he bought something too big. Oh my god, Ron, you think I'm fat! Or if he'd bought something too small. You just wish I could fit into this! Oh no.

Ron tucked the small box into the inside pocket on his coat and headed to the library. It didn't take long to find Hermione, sitting with her face buried in a book and a quill tip stuck in her mouth. That oral fixation of hers drove Ron absolutely nuts, but he couldn't very well tell her that. It might make her stop.

"Hermione!" Ron stage whispered and slid into the seat across from her.

Poor unsuspecting Ron. Ultimately this wasn't his fault. He couldn't actually help being a male. It was really something Hermione shouldn't complain about, but she couldn't help the way all these thoughts made her stomach turn. Hermione hated feeling so out of control. She was calm, cool, and collected. At least, she was that way on the outside and she was hardly able to act that way where Ron was concerned, especially now.

The young witch quickly scribbled something down before looking up at him. Slowly her eyes were dragged away from her work, a weak smile on her lips. At least he was whispering. That was one point in his favor at the moment. "That was quick," she said in a whisper. Quill still in hand she tapped it against her cheek. Had it been quick? Or had she been so engrossed in her work that she hardly noticed the time. That was something that seemed to happen with Hermione.

Ron gave Hermione a weird look and propped himself up on his elbows, leaning across the table to try and see what she was working on. Whatever it was, it looked boring. "I told you I was already on Diagon Alley. Just had to push my way through the hoards of people to get here." The corners of his mouth twisted downward. When you came from a family like Ron's and there were still too many people, it was bad.

"Are you sure you're okay? You look kind of mad." Ron continued to whisper hoarsely, looking at Hermione with less concern for her and more for himself. If she really was mad, he'd be getting the worst end of it. It had always been that way, unfortunately. He still had a small scar on his forehead, usually covered by his messy hair, from when Hermione had hexed a bunch of birds to attack him. Wasn't safe to let her feelings get all bottled up.

Stacks upon stacks of books were laid out before her. Some were open and some were piled on top of each other. Those had yet to be opened. And maybe one or two happened to be on the topic that she and Ginny had discussed the other night. And while Ron might have found the things she was doing boring Hermione was rather pleased with her progress. Although she had noticed the look her gave her she decided to dismiss it. "Oh, yes. I do remember you mentioning that. I suppose I was just a bit engrossed in my work." She shrugged a bit.

Slowly a brow arched upwards. She didn't speak. No, she just sat in silence watching him. Hermione hadn't really thought she looked angry. Although, some part of her was angry. At least in a way. Biologically he couldn't help these things. But it was the emotional side of Hermione that couldn't seem to let the other conversation go. And so, for what seemed like forever Hermione sat and started at him, contemplating what her next move might be. Ron and Hermione had a tendancy to blow up at one another. And as for the canaries ..he deserved them!

Her eyes narrowed at him and finally she spoke. "Am I mad?" She asked in an oddly calm voice. "I am perfectly fine, Ronald." Oh, yes. Clearly she was fine.

Ron quirked his own red brow before turning his gaze to the gigantic pile of books next to his girlfriend. What in Merlin's name was she doing? How could any one person possibly need that many books in one sitting? Or ever, for that matter?

Tapping his fingers on the table noisily, Ron continued to look at Hermione with an odd look on his face. When she spoke, it was clear that she was not okay at all. She sounded perfectly calm, normal, but that made him suspicious. It was the kind of voice she often had before she went completely batty on him.

Ron silently tried to figure out if he should give her the gift or not. Maybe it would put her in a better mood, but maybe it would make things worse. He couldn't really be sure at this point. "Well, alright. I brought you something." Ron decided to just go for it. After all, he'd gone through a lot of trouble and embarrassment to get the stupid knickers, he might as well just give them to her. Pulling the small pink box from his pocket, he slid it across the table. Hermione was surrounded by so many books that it was doubtful someone would see what he'd gotten her unless they were directly over her shoulder.

"Ron," she said with a warning tone. A look accompanied the name. An indication that clearly said she was not happy with the loud tapping noises. If she hadn't been so short she would have reached across the table to place her own hand over his. At any moment the librarian could come by and scold them. And Hermione just would not have that. Perhaps she would have said more had he not offered her that gift.

Slowly she let her quill fall and reached forward to grasp the box in her hand. "I didn't think you were going to go ahead with this." He had, after all, made a comment along those lines.

Fingers deftly opened up the present, wondering what exactly he might have gotten. It was much smaller than a book, so that was obviously out. A sweetheart necklace maybe!? Ooo. Hermione could only be so lucky. Shock passed over her features as she looked down into the box. Ron had actually gone out and purchased orange lingerie for her! It meant Ginny was right! Truly, she was flattered. But after her talk with Ginny she was quite worried.

"You .. Your sister was right! You do only think of ..of ..sex!" The last word being uttered in a harsh whisper. It would seem that Hermione was completely forgetting the earlier conversation that the two had shared. Ginny's discussion outshadowed it would seem. The hysteria was setting in now.

Ron leaned forward as he handed the box to Hermione, tipping two of his chair legs off the ground. He was hoping that orange lingerie would remind her of the night they'd spent together, which might make her happy with him again. She'd had no complaints that night, not with him and not with her little black lingerie. But .. of course, Ron misjudged Hermione's mood again. He took the look on her face to mean that he'd made another mistake. Perhaps it was because he'd given it to her in a public place, or just because she was in a bad mood already.

Ron sighed, ready to defend himself, when suddenly she spoke. He lost his balance, the hovering two legs of his chair hitting the floor with a resounding smack. He had not been expecting her to say that, not at all. Sure, he did think about sex quite a bit, but he was certain that Hermione didn't know the extent to which it occurred, and he was incredibly certain that Ginny didn't.

"What?!" Ron could feel his face start to turn red. He managed to keep his voice at a reasonable temper, but as a result all his words came out as an angry hiss. "Why are you talking to my sister about sex?! Why are you so bloody mad? Would you prefer I didn't think about having sex with you?!"

Although she was still acting a bit huffy she noted the way his anger seemed to ebb. The way the color was leaving his face. It was the only thing keeping her grounded in her seat. She could have very easily gotten up and gotten lost in the maze of the library.

Despite her best efforts a single tear fell and she wiped at it angrily. She was not going to get upset over this! ..Well, more upset about this. Though they had already sort of talked about some of this stuff the other night she felt like she hadn't really said all she had wanted to. Her talk with Ginny only seemed to fuel the fire and it was, without a doubt, not Ginny's fault. Hermione's irrational side just happened to win out this time.

"If you don't understand now how could I even possible explain it to you?" How could she say all that she wanted to say? Why was she the one constantly pouring her heart out? She was the one that put herself out on the line. She was just spewing what ever came to her mind out of her mouth while Ron clearly did not do the same. Sadly she shook her head and stood up. "I really did appreciate the gift ..even if it might not have seemed that way."

Hermione stood there, unwilling to leave just yet. She just couldn't seem to get her body to do what her mind wanted it to.

Ron was used to the fighting, but he was used to it in a way where Hermione fought back tooth and nail. Watching a tear fall from her eye made him feel as if his heart had just been placed in a vice. Hermione didn't often cry when they fought; she just yelled back at him. Ron was struck with an unfathomable guilt that reminded him of the time he'd made her cry in their very first year together. What a stupid girl, that she could be mad at him for no sane reason and yet he ended up feeling guilty anyway! Or maybe a brilliant girl.

And now she was leaving! Ron stood up so quickly his chair fell over. "Don't go!" he said, his voice somewhat pleading. Moving around to the other side of the table, Ron put his hand on Hermione's arm, his fingers circling her wrist. "I don't know what's going on, but we can talk about it. Later, if you want, when we can go home." It was strange how he had inserted himself into Hermione's house without an invitation anymore, as if he'd always been meant to be there with her. He started at Hermione, silently begging her to see the sincerity in his blue eyes. This was hard for him, could she tell? That he was even offering to go sit down and talk, well, that had to say something.

Making Ron feel guilty really hadn't been her intention. Really she had truly wanted him to understand how she was feeling. Yet, she hadn't really gone about explaining how she felt at all. All she had seemed to do was make this worse. Though she couldn't really complain since it had worked in her favor.

Her head snapped back at the loud noise the chair had made. It had even made her jump a bit. Her whole body tensed at his touch. Her eyes fell onto her wrist and his hand. Had Ron actually just asked her to stay instead of leaving himself? Slowly her body began to relax, reveling in the simple contact. "I just want to put these few books back," she said in a soft voice. It was the look in his eyes that really caused her to stop and think. He was offering her something she wanted and at a cost to him and his own pride.

"Then we can go home." The fact that Ron had inserted himself into her home that way caused butterflies to settle in her stomach. It was odd to Hermione, feeling like she just wanted to throw her arms around him. She refrained, of course, and hurried off to put her books away.

Something seemed to have made Hermione calm down. Ron was too daft to realize that it had been him, but he was glad for it all the same. He stuck the small box back into his coat pocket and righted his chair. He waited impatiently for the witch to return, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. He was just going to wait like a good little boy for her to put her books away and then they could go home. Yes. A glance at his watch told him that they were safe to re-enter their homes now, something others were obviously noticing as well. The crowd in the library began to thin as people drifted out the door or apparated home. Ron wasn't bitter at all that they hadn't let him and Harry help with the searches. Just because he hadn't passed his test yet. His lip twitched. Not bitter at all.

But he was tired of waiting. Hermione was taking forever to put her hundreds of thousands of books away and she seemed so sad, so confused, so ... something. He didn't know what she was suddenly so insecure but he didn't want her to feel that way anymore. Ron took off, ducking down the aisles quickly until he spotted Hermione reaching up to put a book on a higher shelf. Her back was to him. Ron glanced around to see if anyone was near them before sneaking up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist.

"It's only you, I promise. Hermione, it's always been only you." Ron whispered quietly into her ear. It was so much easier to say those things when he wasn't actually facing her.

Hermione knew she was taking a long time, but it had sort of been on purpose. As excited as she was that Ron was willing to talk to her the thought was terrifying. Hermione hardly made any sense. Finally getting wha one wants can be a bit unbalancing. As she wandered down the isles she considered the different ways that this conversation could go. Would they just always argue about things like this? Would they get over this? Would she get over this? Ultimately she knew that she could, or at least she hoped that she could. No, she had to tell herself she could. She would not fail at this.

Fingers were pushing the final book into it's slot, the knots in her stomach multiplying. It was almost time. And just as her feet came back into complete contact with the floor she felt his arms go around her. She squeaked, not expecting him. For a moment she felt the urge to call out a curse even though she didn't have her wand in hand.

But then there it was. That sweet voice that caused shivers to run over her body. Her own arms rested over his, lacing her fingers with his. The weight that was lifted from her shoulders felt enormous. Hermione let her body relax into his. "Truly?" She asked in an almost inaudible voice.

This was certainly a start.

Ron had been afraid that Hermione would be startled by him, or even worse, mad at him again. But then her fingers had entwined with his and she leaned back into him. Ron always felt like things were going to be okay when she was this close to him. Funny, it hadn't happened very often at all, but that didn't mean it didn't have a huge effect on him. He loved the way she felt in his arms. Small, fragile, like he was supposed to take care of her and she actually trusted him to do it.

Ron kissed Hermione just behind her ear, keeping his lips close enough for him to keep whispering. "You should know that by now," Ron scolded, his face splitting into a grin. But then, she was in such a strange, fragile state right now, he wondered if he shouldn't just behave himself. "Truly," he corrected himself. "I mean it. Please believe me."

He wouldn't dare admit it, not now and maybe not ever, but Ron, with his girlfriend pressed firmly against the front of his body, her sweet-smelling hair right underneath his nose, her soft fingers laced with his, was starting to develop a new Hermione fantasy. This one involved the library, in between the stacks when no one was looking. Oh Merlin, maybe Hermione was right. Maybe he couldn't go more than five seconds without thinking about sex. But he was thinking about her! Why did she seem to think he wouldn't be? He hadn't even gone all the way with her yet; there were still plenty of things left for him to be thinking about. Maybe he could tell her what he was thinking right now and then she'd -- no, no, he couldn't do that. Ron began to fidget.

"D'you, err, want to go home now?"

Socially Hermione had never really been good at making friends. Even in her years before Hogwarts friendships had been hard to come by. She was the type of girl that most people were afraid of. When other little girls were playing with dolls and other frivilous toys Hermione was engrossed in reading and writing. She had been a know-it-all from the start. There were times when she was older that she wished that she had taken the time to play when she was little. In Hogwarts it hadn't been any easier. Ron and Harry had been her saving grace. And though Ron saw himself as awkward and lanky Hermione knew that was hardly the case. She often say the way other women looked at him. The waitress at the restaurant was just one explain of that.

Hermione, it seemed, was trying to let her body melt into his. Her head was still tilted and she had let her eyes fall shut. "Ron, whyever would you say something like that?" Hermione honestly couldn't understand his thinking. How could he think that he had anything to be worried about? Hermione hardly had time to allow anyone into her life. Constantly engrossed in her work, it kept her from having much of a social life outside of her little circle.

The words were there. They had always been there, but she wasn't quite ready to come out with them either. She couldn't help the little giggle that bubbled up inside of her when he mumbled like that. "It's good to know," she said with a smile and opened her eyes. She sat in comfortable silence for several minutes before she spoke again.

"You aren't really jealous of Viktor, are you?"

There was no telling what would have happened to Ron if he hadn't met with Harry Potter that day on the train, if he hadn't become friends with Hermione that same year. But that was an irrelevant thought; there was no point in wondering about what could have been. The truth was that Ron couldn't begin to think of life without his friends, just as he couldn't bear to think of his life without Hermione in it.

Especially now, with her body curled up on his lap that way. He had almost forgotten that the two had been fighting earlier. He stayed there quietly for a moment, just trying to figure out how to answer Hermione's questions while simultaneously enjoying the closeness. When she asked him about jealousy he paused another moment before speaking.

"Almost. I don't know. I'm jealous that he had the courage to ask you out when you were fourteen and I didn't do it until twenty-two. I'm jealous that he danced with you, that the first time you ever really took my breath away it was because of him. But you're here now. With me." There was an incredibly possessive edge to his voice that Ron just couldn't quite curb. "I thought you'd get tired of waiting for me."

The fighting did seem like a distant memory now. Yet, in the same breath, it was something that they were still involved in. The anger had ebbed away and now they were discussing things. It felt like Christmas, almost, to Hermione. Ron Weasley hadn't stalked off and left her standing there in the Library. Instead, he had asked her to talk to him. The giddy sensation it brought on was hardly containable.

After hearing him talk about Viktor Hermione wrinkled her nose. "Being jealous of Viktor is silly, Ron," Hermione said softly, not wanting to seem as though she was scolding him. Although Hermione did understand that feeling of jealousy. The canaries should have been a clear indicator of that. "I don't write to him because I want him to come and take me away. It's much easier to owl him than it ever was to speak to him in person." Viktor had never been much of a talker, but writing he was good at. And Hermione loved a good letter. "You and Harry never wanted to write me. You thought it was silly. It was just nice to have someone that wanted to write me." Hermione wasn't mad about that. She just wanted to explain the letters. "All my letters are about my work or Harry or Ginny. But they're mainly about you." That last admission was a bit of an accident.

"I've already told you this, but ..I always hoped you would turn that Weasley charm on me. Waiting wasn't hard because I knew that there would be no one else for me, but you."

Ron's face furrowed in confusion. She wrote to Viktor because ... she wanted a pen friend? That was all? It seemed nearly unbelievable, especially to someone like Ron. Why would you want to write letters to someone? Then she admitted that her letters were about him, and a warm feeling spread over his body. Ron recognized it as blood rushing to his face, knew he was starting to turn red again. It didn't matter, though, it was hard not to be jealous of Viktor. Famous Quidditch player, rich, girls throwing themselves at him. After all that, he'd chosen Hermione. Ron's girl. He thought back to Bill and Fleur's wedding, remembered the way Krum at looked at him and Hermione, especially when Ron had grabbed Hermione's hand and forced her to dance with him. He'd done it mainly to get her away from Krum, but these days Ron wondered why he had more courage as a sixteen-year-old boy than he did now. Maybe it was because he thought they were all going to die back then.

Charm. Ron hasd never been accused of having charm before. He was perhaps the least charming person in all of history, but he was trying to work on it these days. As far as the Weasleys went, Ron knew he wasn't like the rest of his family. He wasn't smart like Percy, cool like Bill, adventerous like Charlie, funny like George, and he sure as hell wasn't everything the way his sister way. Ron was used to being the youngest boy, the most medicore in the family.

"You talk about me like I'm something special," Ron mused quietly, his fingers tracing small patterns on Hermione's leg.

Hermione shivered when he touched her leg like that. But she didn't allow him to continue that for long, especially not after his last statement. Turning her body around she grasped his face in her hands. Her brows came together. "Ron Weasley, you are special," she scolded him. "And even if you don't believe that you are, I do. I have believed it from almost the very first moment I met you." She couldn't exactly say it had been from moment one. She had sort of made fun of him for not using a proper spell. "You are much more than you're willing to admit you are."

Leaning forward she placed a little kiss onto the tip of his nose. Hermione wasn't sure why Ron didn't believe more in himself. Although, she knew it must have been hard for him coming up in such a big family. And a family that had that many personalities. It was Hermione's belief that Ron was the bravest of all the Weasley's. He had sacrificed his life so many times for the people he had love. Harry had no choice, Ron made up his mind to go. He could have stayed back and left them all for good, but he hadn't. Ron was Hermione's hero.

And though she knew that Ron would feel uncomfortable she couldn't help but stare at him, willing him to actually believe everything she actually said.

It would take a long time before Ron was willing to believe everything that Hermione was saying. At this point in time he wasn't sure if he'd ever be able to do that. There were so many people who made harder choices than he had and who did much braver things. There was always someone who was overall just ... better. That didn't mean that Ron was against hearing Hermione say these things to him. Despite the fact that he had a hard time believing her, he still enjoyed listening to her talk about him that way.

Ron placed his hands over Hermione's, turning his head slightly so he could kiss her palm. He offered a crooked grin and allowed her to stare at him for just a moment before he squirmed underneath her. Unwilling to let her go so easily, he moved his hands to the back of her neck and pulled her face forward, kissing her lips with an intensity that said maybe he did understand what she was trying to say.

"Always?" Ron mumbled. Always sounded very nice. It was a steady sort of word, solid. The concept of always really would have thrown Ron's mind with any other girl. Lavender had tried to talk about their plans for the summer and he could barely respond with coherent sentences. Trying to make plans like that in advance was assuming that you were still going to be together, and Ron was not exactly okay with that. Except things were different now. He had never really been able to imagine Hermione not in his life, so it only made sense that she would be included in an always. This wasn't to say that Ron was perfectly okay with things in general. If Hermione tried to talk to him about their future in a serious context he would probably become uncomfortable and awkward again. But right now, the way they were laying in bed, he was okay with things.

"So, um." Ron propped himself back up on his elbow, sliding off Hermione to lay at her side again. "Whatcha wanna do tonight?"

Always was a word that meant all the things she wanted to say, but wasn't able to. Always wasn't an 'I love you' but it was close. "Of course always. How could you think anything less?" Hermione was far from ever letting Ron out of her life. Even if he wanted to leave she might kidnap him and keep him in her closet. But that was only when all other tactics were exhausted. Hermione almost laughed at her own thoughts. She needed help.

Hermione mourned the loss of body contact, but didn't want to make that too obvious to Ron. She rolled herself towards him, propping herself up on her elbow. "You know, I was thinking about maybe finishing up my research that I started earlier," she said in a clearly teasing voice. Hermione knew that Ron probably had another idea. "In fact, why don't I get started now?!" She was quite chipper about the idea.

Ron rolled his eyes and flopped backwards on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. "Yeah, yeah, you and your homework." He was actually only half positive that she was joking. It was very possible that Hermione really did want to get up and finish the research that she had been doing in the library. It was sort of an endearing quality of hers. Annoying, but endearing. Sort of.

"I suppose you could go. I'm sure I can find some way to entertain myself." He cast her a look out of the corner of his eye, a Weasley grin spreading across his face. "I've always wanted to thoroughly examine your underwear drawer." Best not mention he'd already been in here once.

Perhaps Hermione had been semi-serious about the work. Then again a semi-naked Ron Weasley was always pretty enticing. "It really is fascinating work, Ron. I think that you might even enjoy it if you ever sat down and read some of it." This was probably something Ron could do without knowing. Hermione might not have agreed with that sentiment, but it was almost certain that Ron would.

A brow slowly arched up when he made the comment about entertaining himself. IN her underwear drawer!? Hermione sat up sharply and turned towards him. "You wouldn't!" Hermione wasn't quite sure why she was panicing. It wasn't like she had anything to hide in there. Oh no. This would not do. Changing tactics she climbed up onto his torso, straddling him. "I think you should stay right here. Like this," she said in a bossy voice. There would be no panty raiding!

"Oh yes, I will get right on that," Ron couldn't stop himself from rolling his eyes yet again as Hermione mentioned the idea of him actually looking over her research. He was about to make another snide comment when her eyes widened and she climbed on top of him. Judging from her reaction to his comment about raiding her panty drawer, Ron decided to ignore the subject entirely. He raised a brow and looked down at his lap, where Hermione was now perched. ""Or you could get right on it, I suppose." He wiggled a bit underneath her and stretched his arms up, crossing them underneath his head.

"I could definitely stay right here, like this."

"Honestly, Ron! You don't even know what I am researching!" Her hand reached out to lightly smack him in the chest. Nothing too violent. "You might actually enjoy what I am working on." She glanced down at him. "And don't you roll your eyes at me," she said haughtily as she crossed her arms. Hermione seemed to forget that when she crossed her arms it only pushed up what little chest she had. It hardly made her intention to be haughty convincing.

Her body seemed to wiggle from side to side when he wiggled. She hadn't really been expecting for him to make such a move. "Well, someone had to get right onto something. Why not me?" She smirked at him. Her hands went to her hips. "This isn't uncomfortable for you, is it?" Hermione was still rather naive and was honestly asking.
