It's D-Day and B-Day today, and guess who's fashionably late for both?

Well, not me, I'm fashionably ready to have this party over and done with. But nope, doesn't seem to happen today, since the Braxton Hicks that's made my life, shall we say interesting, the past months, have excelled by their absence today.

Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch.

It was my birthday this past week, although I did not celebrate the occasion. Indeed I made the conscious choice to not celebrate and instead kept myself busy all day and mentioned it to nobody until now. I will thank any well wishers in advance and say that because of when the portal pulled me through to this world I have already celebrated my birth once this year, or so it seems.

It was a day when I missed my family and the friends from my old life very keenly. I cannot and will not let my origins hold me back from getting the most from my new life here, but nor can I forget my previous life.

My gratitude goes to all who have welcomed me into this world and assisted me when I did not understand the most basic workings of this society.

My poor, sweet Helena I miss you so. I wish that our last words had not been in anger.

I think I might be far more tired than Duke after today's walk. He's a bit of a handful these days. To be honest, I can't wait until he's old enough to join the breeding program, but I think that will be a few more months yet. Just have to keep him out of Dempster's office until then or he'll be wreaking havoc in there.

I have been speaking extensively with the workers at the library and trying to investigate my own history in the world we all came from. It appears that over 1000 years is time enough for even supposedly famous individuals to have much of their history lost to the murk of history.

To those who might be curious: the time I came from is after Salazar Slytherin left Hogwarts, although it is not a topic I have a particular yearning to discuss, suffice to say it was not a particularly amicable departure on any part.

However this was a time while my daughter was still alive and a student at the school. I am deeply saddened to find that she did not live to be a good age. That our occasional animosity grew to a great rift. I am aware enough to know my own manner was difficult even in my own time, but that we fought and were never reconciled eats at my heart.

Fellow herbologists I should like to investigate the my current project plant further for its properties and have run through all tests of which I know, if one of you would be kind enough to direct me to some suitable resources for further testing.

Alternatively I am of a mind to go slightly further afield than before for new plant life, if anybody has any suggestions or any of their own ideas they would like company for please let me know.

I've been in this gorgeous new (not fucking freezing) world for a few weeks now. Sorry I didn't tell anyone but I've been helping the parentals set themselves up and visiting the rest of the family. They're all in 2. I've just moved my arse into a cute 'cottage' - with not a white picket fence in sight - here in 1, now that I've been let out of Mama's clutches.

So who do I need to grovel to and will Mama's curry and cheesecake help make up for it? Do I need to bring out the booze? Anyhow, party at my place soon, yeah? I need to catch up on EVERYTHING!

I'm due to start doing Merlin knows what to my hair in this heat in a few days. Well, working on the farms, so if anyone has better employment prospects for former pro Quidditch players with a photography sideline let me know! I also come with years of waitressing skills including the posh end of catering.

I'll start ducking the virtual Howlers now, okay?!

The reading Sirius pointed me towards when I first arrived filled me in on this Voldemort fool and the awful things he did to the world and to me and Lily. It's still a bit strange to hear that someone's been killed here in the Settlements, even by animals. I know I should be relieved - he was a murderer, in this world and the Old one, of course, but there's just a bit of a disconnect, I guess. Anyone else feeling it? Any other... refugees of time unsure how to react to this?

Honestly, it's a disconnect I haven't felt this... disjointed... since arriving, I'd say. Of course, I've written all of this without a note of how glad I am to know the wanker's dead and gone. Quite, to put it lightly.

This afternoon Security Wizards found the remains of the Portal Murderer and the body was identified as Tom Marvolo Riddle. The Portal's malfunction seems to have brought him over the evening that Security Wizards Gudgeon, Shingleton, and Bundy were killed and the deceased's wand has confirmed his guilt in the matter.

I ask all members of the Settlements to keep reactions and public displays civil. We will have a stronger Security presence throughout the Settlements this evening to ensure that order is kept.

It is with gratitude to our Security and Scouting teams that I announce this. Without their tireless work, we may never have closed this dark chapter in our settlement history. Please take a moment to remember those lives lost.

I feel like I've been a bit of a homebody since the wedding, not that you can blame me with such a beautiful wife! What have I missed, friends? I'm back to working the usual way-too-much but would enjoy catching up soon.

Drinks? Tonight? Pub? My Place? I'll admit, I hit a roadblock on research this week and may have already had a bottle of wine with my lunch earlier today. Could use a friendly face and gorgeous smile to lift my spirits.

I must say I am most pleasantly surprised at how well my garden is progressing. I am yet to kill any of the plants, and I find the work far more relaxing than I remember, even if I am required to avoid the middle of the day due to the heat.

For the first time I have worn the loose trousers which the staff at the garment shop assisted with making. While they are not uncomfortable I am not wholly convinced that I shall use them on a regular basis. I believe they may come in useful if I am to go on extended research expeditions with more difficult terrain as skirts can become somewhat limiting in that situation.

Anybody who visits my home in the future will probably be pleased to hear that I will now be maintaining a small supply of tea and coffee. I have found coffee not to my liking, but the occasional cup of tea is most refreshing, particularly the peppermint variety. My thanks to all of those who work in the shops who aided in my quest for understanding of these beverages.

Having now read Hogwarts: A History I find myself ever more curious about the experiences of more recent students, particularly those in my own house. In return I would be delighted to discuss aspects of the early years with interested people. Or perhaps offer my embroidery services.
