RP: Back at the office

Setting: Security Office, Settlement 1
Content: Gen

Dempster had gotten back to the office after a few hours out in the jungle. Pen had found him in the shared Security office with his head in his hands. "I just can't believe it was him," he said when he heard her settle into the chair next to his small desk.
"You did the test with your own wand, Wiggs, what more proof do you want?" She clucked her tongue at him and shook her head - what on earth was he moping about?
"Penelope, what if Lavender had been out at the Portal the night he'd come through? What if it hadn't been Ravenclaw last time but someone like him? She's brilliant but even our best went up against him and..." Pen could tell he was thinking of Gudgeon and Shingleton, his friends who'd died at the Portal. His look was haunted, and Pen couldn't stand it anymore.
"Oh, shut up." She'd nearly shouted. Lowering her voice but not the level of anger in it she added, "Your lovely wife survived a werewolf attack in the Battle at Hogwarts, I have no doubt she can handle anything that comes her way. Not to mention - she wasn't there, and you're going to put yourself in an early grave by worrying about worst case scenarios that haven't come to be, right?"
"Plus," she continued, stretching her arms above her head, "now we can go back to our jobs and figure out how to fix the damned Portal instead of you Security twits running around the island and taking campaign trips every night. You guys can go back to being lazy and doing your usual rounds." She gave him a grin, hoping to pull him out of his dour mood; if you asked her (which nobody had) - Voldemort being dead was wonderful news and had put her in a great mood.
One of the other Security wizards took offense and shouted "Hey!" before tossing a paper clip at her head. When Dempster didn't join in on the revelry, she gave him an exasperated look and stood. "I've had enough. Now that you've done your bit and discovered that the monsters out there have done us a favor, just shut up." Tossing her curls over her shoulder, she turned on her heel and huffed out of the office back to the Unspeakble's wing to get working on the Portal just like she'd always wanted.
