Just when you think the world's weird, it decides to go ahead and give away free doughnuts. This is the end of my complaining for awhile. So. Who's coming with me on my multi-stop tour of doughnut shops in the city?

Is it close enough to summer yet that I can call for a mandatory beach day before everything gets ruined by, oh, I don't know, whatever is going to fall out of the sky on Tuesday?

If free donuts fall out of the sky, I wouldn't call it ruined. Kidding, kidding!

I'm game. Sounds like you know something ominous is going to happen soon though.

I think it would depend largely on where said doughnuts landed.

As for the ominous? I'm an Avenger. I always assume something is going to happen, especially on a Tuesday.

True!

This is why I like the lot of you. I spoke with Tony a bit, but I'd love to get involved. You all seem to have a knack for rushing into danger.

What'd old man Stark have to say? Though, I guess he's not the old man, now that his Dad is here...

Point though, it's not just about rushing into danger. In fact, if Cap heard you say that, he'd probably make faces at you. The idea behind the Avengers is to make sure that there are people out there who can handle whatever happens so that innocent people don't get hurt. I mean, personally speaking, I can't say I dislike the rushing part, but I'd still rather see less of it, you know? It's never a good day when someone gets hurt, no matter how many things I get to turn into pin cushions.

Well, still older than me, so it counts. Basically, he'd talk to the Captain or something like that and to take classes for now.

In all seriousness, I know what you mean and agree completely. Protecting other people is something that's important to me, and one reason why I don't think my superior officer is just an ass.

Cap's good people, just don't be surprised if he doesn't bite on the whole idea of you joining up. He likes youngerus to have lives that aren't about being a here and are fun, free, and happy. It makes sense, considering everything I know about him, but Stark's advice is good too. Classes are always a good idea, especially when you're in a new place where things don't work the same. Have you looked into anything at all?

Most bosses are. Just not me. I'm fantastic.

I can understand wanting to be fun, free, and happy and all; but I...that life isn't an option for me. Not here and not back home. I should tell you the story of how I came to have my automail limbs.

I have. I've been taking some classes with ESD. Chemistry, Physics, you name it. The chemistry stuff is super easy and I pretty much can get away with sleeping in it.

...You're old enough to be a boss?

Hey Ed? I get that maybe it wasn't an option for you back home, and I'm really sorry for that buddy, but here? Here I think you've got all kinds of options. Why is it you think you don't?

As for stories, I'm all ears whenever you want to tell them.

It's good that you're taking classes too. I keep thinking I should do that, and then I don't because I get too busy.

I am. There are bosses out there younger than me even.

Because since I still have my automail limbs, it means that my brother is still stuck in a suit of armor as his body, and I did that to him because of my arrogance in thinking we could bring my mother back from the dead. The rest of that story? You'll have to wait to hear in person.

Al would probably say it's not just my fault, but...he trusted me, his older brother, and it cost him everything.

You probably should. I mean, I wouldn't mind tutoring or whatever in the harder subjects.

Listen, Ed. Maybe this is just Cap rubbing off on me or whatever, but you can't kick yourself for that now. Nobody deals with death in any kind of rational way and, sure, maybe you messed up in your eyes, but your brother trusted you with good reason I'm sure. If you don't think he'd think it was your fault, then why are you blaming yourself?

Just think about that. If it's a mistake you can't fix now, or here, it's not one worth passing up whatever chance you can get at a good life. I know that might seem selfish but...we all make mistakes. The trick is to not let them do more damage than they do in the moment they happen.

Let me know what subjects you need with and I'll see if I can find someone to tutor you.

And Ed? Do something nice for yourself sometime soon okay?
