The insides of his tent were exposed, stove, bed, small table with two chairs, and footlocker settled in places over the wood floorboards. Studs and tresses standing ready for the weather proofed canvas he was working in his hands as he settled on the well worn quilt beneath him. The snow was already falling, the temperature dipping. He knew he'd have to put up something quick for his horse. Some thing that could share a wall with his tent so it would get some of the heat the new stove could offer. No doubt he'd have to sacrifice boards he'd gathered for the front wall. For the winter anyway. He had to hope that it would be enough to keep them both warm. Otherwise he'd have to figure out something, if he had to he'd bring the horse into the apartment building to stay in with him. Cullen grinned at the idea, knowing it would drive some of the damn blue coats in this place crazy. Though the only way he'd do it was if it got as cold as it had the winter after Lily had been killed. It was hard to believe Mrs Bell had been dead almost two winters already. It was coming on five since he'd come home to Mississippi to find his wife dangling, and his son burned to death. "Shit." He cursed softly as he pierced his finger with the thick needle he was using to form the hole the stack was going to stick out of. |
