What: Madness
When: Yesterday at various times
Where: All over the place
Status: Unfinished

It had been a normal day for everyone. People were going about their own business, some on the station, some on Midgard, some in Asgard... you get my drift. But they would not be separated for long. Reunions that were never meant started to happen.

A bath? She wiggled up to see if she could spot one. Not in this room. Good. It would needed to be prepared. She would be alone during that. She could flee. "I want one," she said, spite dripping from her every word. She had never been like her youngest brother who was able to twist his tongue and expression to his favour. In Brenna's words always lay an ounce of truth.

The doors whispered closed again and Bryn strode over to the couch and carefully, like she would break if she jostled her too much, placed Brenna down on the piles of animal hides. Most would look familiar if she had paid attention to the coverings when she was a child. "I'll return in a few moments. If you get cold there is this.." She lifted the edge of a more modern cotton throw that was exceptionally soft.

Brenna curled up when she finally had her body to herself again. She nodded. "Thank you." That was at much of a deception she was able of before her temper would run away. She sent a quick prayer to Loki and hoped that this would buy her enough time to run away.

Bryn didn't delay she slipped into the bathroom. Once inside she leaned against the door released one of the sobs she had been holding onto. Covering her mouth so they were kept quiet, she felt the same sense of helplessness she had felt the first time she was faced with her youngest daughters death. It took all the strength in her soul not to wail with despair. All was not lost.

After a moment she leaned away from the door, and stepped over to the sunk in tub. Starting filling it up with nice hot water. All was not lost, was something she chanted in her head.

The moment the other woman had left the room Brenna pushed herself off her seat and towards the door. She crawled the first few feet before she had the strength to push herself up and stumble the rest. It was the door that stopped her. No push or shove brought it to open.

"I would try pushing this," a voice said from her right. Her head snapped around. A tall man dressed in black and green casually leaned against the wall next to her. He was pointing at a round ornament on the door. Another sorcerer. She had not seen him arrive. Brenna hesitated. Her first instinct was to fight him, spit at him and but trust a thing he was saying. But she had asked the gods for help and maybe this was their answer. The man did not try to contain her after all.

She pressed the ornament. The door opened. She ran.

---

When Loki had received the prayer, it had proved a useful distraction for his own predicament. He had sent over an illusion to find what he could only assume to be Bryn's offspring struggling with the door. He had been called to help so helped. What kind of god would he be if he would deny the wish of someone so under stress? A moment after his advice the place had emptied of humans. But his helpfulness did not end there. If Bryn would emerge from the bath again, she would find him standing with his back to her, examining the door. "Out and left," were his words before he would turn to her with a smile.

It took a few moments for her to feel pulled together enough to leave the bathroom. The tub set to shut off when it reached a certain depth and the heater was set so that the water would stay warm, for as long as Brenna wanted. It was a real treasure. Something she appreciated, she was sure her daughter would too.

When Bryn stepped out and saw Loki instead of Brenna saw, she bit back a groan. She had raised her children to pray to him. Instead of following after her directly she stepped up beside the god, she assumed he was an illusion. "She will not get far. She's further along than I thought. I can smell it." Any resolve that she'd gained in that bathroom was brittle. And that much would be clear to the most oblivious. "And she doesn't believe I'm me..." The chuckle was short and humorless. "I didn't think she would." She closed her eyes and took two long deep breaths. "I know you're facing your Mother, and while I don't know what you're facing, I know it cannot be easy. If you can find it in you to loan me a small amount of strength with her, I will return the favor how ever I can."

Loki watched and listened, now fully facing her. "I think time will be your ally," he said, arms crossed behind his back and smile pulling up a corner of his lips. Multiple meanings in a harmless enough package. The plan had been set in place for a while. Why not do it a little earlier? It wasn't just Bryn - there was a need to prove to his mother that her youngest was not weak.

Bryn glanced at him, ready to argue that time had never been her friend. But something about his posture, that smile, told her not too. She put more trust in him than the other gods, most of her life. And while she was aware that he was the prince of lies, he had never failed her. "I trust you. But I will ask you this, if nothing can be done, if she does not want this," she held her hand just over her chest, hoping he would gather that 'this' was her vampirism, "do not let me give in to my mortal weakness, and turn her anyway. Because I want to now, and grief will only make that want stronger. I wanted to then, but could not."

Her resolve was a curious one. So was her trust. "But you are going to offer it to her?" he asked.

The resolve came from seeing a lot of people die. And having to hold back when they rejected the choice given to them. "When hope is lost for anything else, I will give her the choice." Bryn cut her eyes to him. "If I have your permission, of course. Your's, Thor's and Frigga's." She would not deny the God's and Goddess' will. "But I will not ask any of you to make that choice until her time is near exhaustion, because I think explaining what I am and why... will take nearly that long."

"Of course," Loki stated, a smile formed in his face. "From one dead creature to the other I think we would both agree that this is preferable to a more permanent death."

"I don't know, all this time she has been in Valhalla. Is this really better than the Great Halls? I have had time to accept my part in the gods plan, but can I really alter her path? Can I damn her to this fate if I know what awaits her?" That was where she got her resolve, because no matter how badly she wanted to be selfish... "Asgard is easier to live long in, everyone around you lives as long as you do. On Midgard everyone around you dies a thousand times over."

"Has her path not already been altered? Tell me, Brynhild, which fight is she going to die in?" he asked. A smirk formed on his lips. "Unless of course you can provoke that imposter of a god to kill her." Now that was an amusing thought.

"He did threaten. And she would have fought him. In fact she tried very hard to do just that, but he bound her hands." A little smile tugged at her lips. A fighter to the end. "There are people who die and don't fight tooth and nail that get into the Great halls. Children for instance. But I see your point." Bryn sighed softly. She only wanted what was best for her children. "I suppose I should go after her. Think I have waited long enough so that it will not be wholly soul crushing that I find her again?"

"With the speed she is travelling at she might be concerned that you have not found her yet," Loki said with a soft smile. The girl had been a stumbling mess. He would not be surprised if Brynhild would pick her up around the corner. "Good luck, Shieldmaiden." With those words, the illusion vanished.

"You too, God of Mischief." The words coming after his likeness vanished. Reaching over she touched the pad that would part the doors, and the moment they did so she was out of them. She closed her eyes for only a moment, forcing all the air out of her lungs. She used the rest of her refined senses to listen for her daughter. The scent of Death made her want to weep. It was something that would forever break her heart. But Bryn set forth to follow it.

Brenna just simply could not go on anymore. The coughing was too heavy, her legs too weak. First she had run, then walked, then crawled. Until eventually a coughing fit stopped her for good. Blood mingled with spit. It left a red trail to the corner where she curled up. What more could she do? The gods had forsaken her, she had not proven herself worthy, Valhalla would never be hers to enter. She would be trapped in Hel. Forever.

The coughing helped her feet move faster. "Oh, Brenna..." She sighed softly, pulling a handkerchief from her pocket when she found her. Bryn dipped to her knees beside her daughter and gently took a swipe at the blood that stained her lips. "Will you let me take care of you, please? I swear upon your father's... Upon Magnus' grave that I will do no harm to you. And may the gods strike me down if I do."

She stared up at the woman. A glare on her face. Oh how she wanted to crawl into her arms? But she had come so far... whoever that man had been, he had helped her escape. Had it not been a sign? She could barely grasp her thoughts... they went back and forth on any matter with nothing to show for.

Eventually, the glare softened and then the tears came. Sobs were their companion. She kept them contained as much as she could, not wanting to show any weakness. But they both knew how pathetic she was. How weak and undeserving...

She felt herself begin to buckle. No. NO! Giving herself a solid shake she had to be steel right now. She would crumble and cry on Thor later. For now she needed to be solid. "That man, that helped you, he was no man. That was the God Loki. He has told me of a way that we might be able to help you not be sick anymore. You can live to fight again. But you have to let me help you."

Bryn felt on the verge of breaking. As she begged her daughter. "Please, please let me help you."

Brenna tried to comprehend. A god? Loki? "He was too small." That was the only thought that she could come up with. Her mind did not cope well. She knew that it was a futile argument, even in her hazy state. But it was all she could come up with. Death really wasn't going according to plan.

"Well, he is much bigger in person, that was an illusion. But even the real thing is smaller than Magnus." Would she remember her father's large presence, she wondered. "The gods have more in store for you my fierce Bear. You just have to want it. Can you stand?" Bryn held a hand out to her. Perhaps carrying her had been the wrong thing to do.

Bryn moved to sit, since her hand was not taken. "It is called a..." She had to think on how to translate next two words. There was nothing close. So she slipped into english. "Space station." Before slipped back into Norse. "I am sure you noticed we are among the stars."

She tried to recreate the words in her mind. It meant nothing to her. The next bit, however, struck her. "The stars..." The realm of the gods... no, she had not noticed that. Could it really be? Had that really been Loki? Brenna went even paler. She had not even said 'thank you'.
