Ugh, and people wonder why I don't like doctors. I've only ever been to one that didn't act like I was too stupid to understand how my own body worked and that was at USA Gymnastics, which has its own issues.

More about calling it fear-mongering and misleading to repeat the range of largely mild side effects of a medication in a clinical trial and refusing to explain why. In my experience that usually means the explanation is "only doctors are smart enough to understand the big words, don't worry your silly little head about it."

Hilarious, considering my medical records have been increasingly inaccurate since I was about twelve months old.

Seemed incredibly rude to me, posting it right after Same, probably. Although it's fair to say that my medical records burned up somewhere. But smart people are always going to rile up other smart people. Unless Tony has them digitally saved somewhere.

I'd be fine with them if more were open to being told that what they were saying didn't match what their patients were actually experiencing. I've known a few socially and I know good ones exist, but you'd think I'd have come across more of them considering I've been disabled my whole life.

Not to be that guy but you think maybe because you have disabilities is why they treat you like you don't know better? I'm used to being treated like I'm stupid, works for me, medically speaking, it's not so great.

Around here, Sam and Christine seem reasonable and open to discussion on our opinions at least.

Oh, I'm sure it is, but that just makes it worse. If something abnormal is happening surely getting all the information about it is even more important. When you can literally kill people by getting it wrong you need to be more responsible than that.

If I need it around here it's probably going to be physical injuries at least, and they tend to be a lot less complicated.

As invigorating as it might be for you to point fingers at the medical field as some sea of oppression, everyone isn’t privileged enough to decide whether or not they need pharmaceuticals to function. I can’t just yoga, kale, and willpower my way out of a psychotic episode. The oppressive upper class didn’t just point to something at random in the DSM to punish me for being poor and Latino.

And the doctor that you’re having your little sociology course on is the only person that I trust to put that needle in me every month, since he’s the only person that I’m not convinced is going to inject me with mind control drugs. Because he’ll go above and beyond to make sure that I feel safe, not because he ‘gatekeeps’ and ‘tells me not to worry my pretty little head about it.’

The truth is that you got your feelings hurt because you tried to insert yourself into a discussion about birth control to make it political. And now you’re trying to discredit him over not letting you.

No, I "got my feelings hurt" because he accused me of fear-mongering over nothing and tried to say that even discussing side effects in a clinical trial is somehow misleading. I only "got political" here, where he can't see it, after that conversation ended, and until now I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he might be an exception. It's lovely that you've had any good experiences with the medical field, but if my father had listened to them about me my life would have been completely destroyed.

I'm not saying no one needs doctors or even that I don't need doctors, obviously medical conditions need to be treated when you actually have them. I just don't think they should be treated as the single all-knowing source of wisdom who can never be questioned and are never wrong, which is exactly what every doctor I went to as a child wanted to be. People should be able to do their own research and decide for themselves whether the advice they're given is reliable and I won't ever trust anyone who thinks otherwise. I can't afford to.

Just cause your ass doesn’t know how to read doesn’t mean I don’t. In the second reply you said “my whole point was that they were all complete wimps” which means you knew when you wrote it that you just wanted to talk shit about the people taking the drug. If you had actually cared about discussing the side effects then you wouldn’t go around calling the people reporting them names. You just want to twist this all around now because Tommy didn’t want to talk trash about his patients’ biological traits to appease you.

Boo-fucking-hoo, a doctor misdiagnosed you so the whole medical field has to be treated like they’re out to get everyone. Have you ever heard of anosognosia? That’s what happens when I, and pretty much anyone else with my condition, goes off medication and stops thinking there is an illness. Then our brains start to atrophy which makes it muy dificil to ponder whether or not our doctor’s advice is reliable. We don’t all have that luxury. And you’re making it a hell of a lot harder for people who already struggle to get treatment by lying about the ones offering it.

So the complete opposite of what he accused me of, which is implying the drug is worse than it was. If he had objected to that it might have been fair, but it's simply not. Because, again, that was a reaction to his utterly stupid response. Just because you don't understand cause and effect doesn't mean I don't.

And you're making it harder for people who are misdiagnosed to get taken seriously, so congratulations both of us I guess.

Wow. Alright. She mentioned some facts about people in her reality. Stated it quite clearly and mentioned it was promising if outlooks have changed. Dr. Elliot — is that him? He drew words from what she did not say. The projection is insane. And, yeah, she called them “wimps” after he dumped a bunch of shit on her for making conversation. Also, technically, if he champions that research, what does he care if she calls the dudes who couldn’t handle it wimps? If he wants to change some people’s minds about medical professional, speaking kindly and rationally to all regardless of opinion would help.

You have a condition. She is differently abled. Arguing about what exactly here? She has a right to speak, just as the dear doctor did.

They are, however, saying that I can't discuss clinical trials. Because it's "misleading". I don't see any explanation for that that doesn't assume I don't know the difference between a trial and a fully approved medication.

And trust me, I know what my diagnoses are. It's doctors that have had trouble with that.
