More about the Snapedom fest

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, I got ten replies, but only six people who have time for a commitment. I don't know about you, but I'm currently suffering from severe fandom fatigue, and the idea of deadlines and having to commit too much time to fandom activities makes me tired, all Snape-love notwithstanding.

How about: we'll take the chance and let you organize yourself? If you feel like it, we have a fest. Maybe we end up with nothing, but that's a chance I'd be willing to take. This would be a small, familiar Underground party anyway, nothing big.

So, I suggest I'd put up a template you can use to leave prompts for crafts, art, manips, vids, fic, you name it. All ships allowed. Something you would like to see. You don't need to offer anything. You don't need to commit to anything. But you can't expect anything either. You just tell us what you'd like to see. The prompts  keep standing, no deadlines there.

Then you look through them. If one tickles your creativity, you grab it and do something with it. You don't need to tell anyone. If none of the prompts is to your liking but you have an idea you want to explore, then go with that.

We start posting December 6th through January 9th. Everybody who made something, posts it. Guests who don't have ij accounts can mail me their entry and I'll post it for them, or they ask an ij friend who posts it for them. These all are gifts for the community. It's basically what we did with the Severus Big Bang, only in a very relaxed manner, no pressure, just do something if you can. If you can't, we'll never know.

Yay or nay?

(Preliminary timeline: Rules and prompts template up beginning of July. Posting template up beginning of December. Posting starts December 6th, ends January 9th.)

Hello Portus?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Did any of you meet Underground members? How was it, did you have fun?

I've been looking at pictures from people on the flist, and they are great. It does look like you all had a lot of fun. One person standing out, however, from all reports unanimously, was droxy as Severus (and as Voldemort). The pictures I've seen were fantastic, so I asked annietalbot if no one took any videos, and she directed me to pern_dragon who gave me permission to link to this. Thank you, ladies! :)

And here it is:

With the Mod's Permission, I Proudly Present: Portus Envy

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Left Behind? Bored? Suffering from Portus Envy (or Snapefest Envy)? Well, we've got the cure.

You may not be going to Portus, but that doesn't mean you can't have any fun this week!

As thrilled as we all are for our fandom friends who are enjoying the festivities in Dallas (and really, we are thrilled), that doesn't mean that those of us who are missing it have to miss out. Instead of sitting around and feeling sad and allowing LJ to slow to a crawl this week, why not channel all that frustration into some fabulous creativity? There are tons of talented people who won't be at Portus this week, and if we put our heads together, we can entertain one another quite well. Already, a number of brilliant drabble challenges and other special projects have been proposed.

That's where portus_envy comes in. Let this community serve as your nexus of entertainment. We aim to showcase all the challenges, stories, art, icons and more that are produced by your fellow Portus outcasts. Offering to write custom drabbles for those with Portus Envy? Post your offer here! Have you come up with a fun game for others to play? Post it! If you're moved to start a special project, write fic, create icons, drabble or drawble this week, then please feel free to post a link or announcement here, so that others can see it and enjoy. The more people that get involved, the better!

So if you're looking for a good way to pass the week, looking to commiserate with fellow fans or are interested in meeting new and different people from all corners of the HP fandom, then come surf portus_envy and see what's going on! As far as we're concerned, this is our own sort of party, and we're planning to have plenty of fun at it.

Please, come join the celebration! We'd be delighted to have you all--any ship, any corner, as long as you're interested in Harry Potter fandom and want enjoy the creativity.

Enjoy the community and spread the word!

(With immense thanks to [info]sylvanawood for graciously allowing me to post this here on Snapedom.)

For those of you who no longer use Livejournal, or no longer wish to use it, a mirror community has been arranged at [info]portus_envy. Please feel free to check it out, join and start posting, if you're interested.

Portus, Snapefest anyone?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I am getting excited about my virgin voyage to an HP con, and the first ever Snapefest. Should the Underground have a secret Handshake or something? A meet-up of our own? A Button?

What do you all think? Who's going? What do I need to be sure I do/don'tdo, take/don't take, on my maiden voyage?

*SQUEEEE*

sincerely,
NOT too old for this!Ven

Celebrating resurrection fangirl style

Warning: potential blasphemy

OK, Snape Fen, it has been suggested that chanting with fervour might assist in raising beloved heros.

So in honor of the Resurrection Holiday today, I remind you of this sacred chant:

Ok Underground. We've had a great, long bithday party and Severus was pleased.

Now we go back to normal procedure.

No fanfic! You can post on your journal and link here every Friday. Short passages as teasers are allowed, of course.

No fanart! You can also post on your journal and link here. Thumbnails as teasers are allowed.

This is mostly to keep the community 'clear' for the discussions, otherwise it's difficult to find things. As reply of a challenge or party, meta-fic or drabbles are of course allowed. Likewise art of all kind.

To avoid clutter, I'm also asking you to put longer entries under a cut.

'Transgressions' will be persecuted by me, so don't count on detention with the Potions- or Defence- or Headmaster. As you all know, I'm tough as butter in the sun when it comes to that, so better be good!

---

And now: let's get prepared for Valentine's Day. I don't think I'm mistaken when I think that you'd want to show your Snape-love? I thought we could have a party again. A bit smaller this time. I'll post a table of prompts, and you chose one (no limits or other restrictions, no announcing that you chose it necessary) and then post what you did with it on Valentine's day (or how long it takes.)

And so I'm asking you: please give me prompts. We'll collect them here in this post, and I make a table of them all next week. We'll collect prompts until the 30st, midnight, and I make the table on the 31st or 1st of Feb. That way you have time to pick your prompts. The prompts don't have to be specific, it's up to the ones who chose them what they do with them.

Why Severus moved to the tropics...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Original poster: sylvanawood

He did try the Victorian swimming trunk bit, believe me. But in the wizarding world, he constantly ran into old acquaintances who turn out to be just as 'dead' as he is. He wasn't very excited about that, so he moved and decided to go Muggle.

See what I mean under the cut.

A modest Birthday Feast to celebrate the day

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Original poster: bohemianspirit

Pizza and Guinness will have to wait for the weekend, after I get paid. ;-) But I still wanted to make something just a little festive for the occasion, last night, and serve it on a properly festive plate: Morningstar Farms mini corn dogs with ketchup--I later added mustard, because I like dipping such things in a blend of ketchup and mustard--and a mug of root beer. Root beer is dark, like Guinness, even if it doesn't pack quite the same punch.

Anyway, I was so pleased with the effect of it all artfully arranged on a solar plate with a celestial mug, that I had to take a picture:

Please note that that tiny strip of kitchen counter on which the plate and mug rest is the sum total of my kitchen countertop space. I love my new apartment, but the kitchen is truly tiny!

Happy Birthday again, Severus, even if you (probably) wouldn't go anywhere near vegetarian corn dogs. ;-)

ETA: They now know that we know! :)

ETA 2: They spotted us. But maybe they spotted the parallel universe FW where we all believe that "Harry Potter Is A Christ Figure Because His Blood is Holy and Good And Would Have Cured Voldemort Of His Crazyshitness".

[info]emestrella wrote a new essay just for us on that comm, but I haven't read it. Please don't go troll the comments. Signing out.

And sisterelwood thinks we should all be shot. (or something to that effect)

More fun with the name

To help us Snape/Snapedom fans chose a name for ourselves, our affiliate, [info]snapeartcontest is running a special contest to illustrate the names on our list. We can then use the illustrations for our winner when we want to present ourselves. If someone illustrates our winner.

The contest runs until December 2nd, regardless of the outcome or duration of our poll here. You can find the details for the contest in this post.

Different from most [info]snapartcontest contests, this one is open for all media, not just Artpad. Go and play! :)

Introducing Creative Meta?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Original poster: sylvanawood

One of the rules on the community is: no fanfiction or fan art, reccing should be on Fridays. I made this rule, because I want this community to be focussed on Snape-related discussion (more or less), and I see on other comms that posting fics and arts quickly becomes the main focus. However, I want this community also used as a writer's resource, and I think creative meta could fit into that context.

I, personally, liked the idea to use fiction to discuss a theory for quite some time now, and I always liked to pack my own theories about the books (pre DH) into my fics, rather than into an essay, because you have more freedom to explore possibilities. So I would be inclined to introduce and include the concept of 'Creative Meta' on the community. It should be gen, not longer than 1000 words, and open to critical discussion (of the content, not the style). It should focus on a Snape-related theme/thory.

Is that interesting for the rest of you, too, or should I just stuff it?

---

And the naming procedure: ETA: I updated the list

You've made it quite clear that you don't want to give me my moment of dictatorship – blast! ;)
Alas, you want to vote yourself, so be it, then. We'll leave the old poll up as announced, until Sunday. Then I'll post a new one. And we continue with a shoot-out after that with the names that get most votes. Last name standing, so to speak. I will make a cut-off point of five votes for each name. Every name that gets less than five votes in the polls is out. The others go back in. I give you until the end of the running poll (Nov. 18th, midnight) to add new names to the suggestions here.

Severus tells me that he finds our activities rather suspicious and watches us closely.

Someone, I think it was [info]bohemianspirit apologized for answering a general question before I could. By all means, don't hesitate to do so. I'm often away for days and want you to chat to each other without minding me much. [info]melusin_79 is around more frequently than I, in case something comes up that needs an admin.

Yesterday I bragged that we had reached the 200 member mark. Bragged too early, one has left us. Weeps.

ETA: We're at 204 now, so I brag again. ;) Our numbers have been rising steadily since we started. I've written them down at least twice a week. Maybe I post a nice growth curve for the comm one day. Yes, that's how I am. Be afraid...

Right, silly crossover plotbunny.

Anyone seen Monsters, Inc., that Pixar movie for Disney?

While trying to draw one of the characters, just had the thought of switching the 2-year-old Boo for a little Snape and having him deal with the Monster World...full of monsters that actually fear humans, and can be as normal as Muggles, in some fashion.

Here are a few things to laugh and giggle about.

[info]the_bitter_word has posted a link to the Black-Snape DH review comic in her reply to the affiliate post, but to make it a bit more visible, for those of you who haven't seen it featured on the newsletters, here it is: The BS Book Review

Something else, funny and very satisfying (at least for spiteful, vengeful me) I found while checking Snape stuff: The Final Battle

And, here's proof that Severus is alive. He showed up in my chat window yesterday:

And so we had a little chat. You can read the whole thing behind the cut. But you don't have to. In fact, I'd rather keep him to myself. But if you must...
