The letter actually was written by Ludwig van Beethoven to his lady love. There's much controversy over who the woman really is. But, I loved the letter and it lent itself to a wonderful fic. Author's Note: In the timeline of things, it takes place during the winter of OotP. But, this was written prior to OotP coming out, so there was no advance guard and no Number 12 Grimmauld Place.
