A comic to lift your spirits

The guy shown here is not supposed to be representative of scans daily posters as a whole who I know to contain a number of real actual women and also furries.

Oh, and for legality:

I agree with your sentiment: it's not fun. But don't say "have to" as if somebody had a gun held to your head.

(For what it's worth, I'm not a mod anymore, I haven't been around here as much lately due to non-online commitments, so I do realize I came into this thread late. I don't mean to be stirring shit up, but I care a lot about this place.)

It's not even a fucking word, except according to Wikipedia. Tell you what, get the word in a dictionary, and I'll start believing it's a real word.

I suggest you get a dictionary made sometime after 1950, dude. My dictionary (in the form of a program that came with my mac) has it:

a•ble•ism |ˈābəˌlizəm| (also a•blism)
noun
discrimination in favor of able-bodied people.

DERIVATIVES
a•ble•ist noun & adjective

It's also found here, here and here.

Your refutation that ableism exists is just hilarious to me, in part because I have a friend doing her masters degree in Critical Disability Studies. I'd love to see you try to tell her and her class there's no such thing as ableism.

Possibly, but it could not tolerate it *without* censuring speech. Then it could embrace "ableism" *and* free speech at the same time!

Are you kidding me? You want to embrace ableism? The point is nobody should be "embracing" ableism, homophobia, racism or sexism or any kind of bigotry.

Defend their fundamental human right to say whatever the fuck they want, even if I personally disagree with it? Fuck yes.

The thing is, you can say all you want anywhere else on the Internet. Call me a bitch, or talk about how s_d is oppressive to your WILD AND FREE-THINKING WAYS and about how you feel you're "fighting the man". Here it's requested that people act like decent human beings to each other. This should really not be that big of a challenge.

Now, my opinion is that scans_daily has good rules. To me they're fair and make sense. You don't think so? Fine. You're free to express dissension here. But that doesn't give you or anyone else the right to insult and attack others. You seem to agree that it's best not to make light of rape, but you disapprove of the moderators telling people that making light of rape or objecting to rape is bad?

The correct way of dealing with trolls is to ignore them,

But sometimes silence is seen as acceptance or agreement. We like our superhero comics here. Justice must be served, you know?

I'm sure it's important to *you*

It is important to me, and I know for a fact it's important to most people here. We come here to have fun and be comics nerds together. It's not fun if people tell others to shut up when they're concerned about how rape is depicted and how women in comics are treated. The mods enable us to keep our space fun and enjoyable, free from most obvious hurtful and harmful asshats.

There are plenty of places for comics fans to excuse away sexism and have their privilege remain unchecked. This is not one of those places.

but let's get a sense of perspective: what does this mean to the world at large? Jack dick.

You haven't been around here very long, have you? I guess you missed the shitstorm when the old scans_daily was booted off of LiveJournal and the comics blogosphere couldn't shut up about it.

It means little to the world at large, but to the comics world it's a well-worn topic and is a lot of people's guilty pleasure.

you're not Grand Emperor of Dune or whatever the fuck inflated opinion you have of yourself.

Well, you're right about that. I am most certainly not the Grand Emperor of Dune.

I'm the Galactic Queen of the Cracktionary! ALL SHALL BOW BEFORE MY LARGE AND WOBBLY GELATINOUS EGO! ALL SHALL LOVE ME AND DESPAAAAAIIIIR!

Now I heartily recommend you read some of think over here. Good day, citizen.

It's my own fault for getting so pissed off that I felt compelled to reply, even after I said I wouldn't anymore. So I'm a hypocrite too.

Are you kidding me? You want to embrace ableism? The point is nobody should be "embracing" ableism, homophobia, racism or sexism or any kind of bigotry.

Then "anti-ableist." Whatever the correct term is. You know what I meant, don't be purposefully dense and pedantic to attempt make some kind of point.

Here it's requested that people act like decent human beings to each other.

I agree with that completely. I also believe that this community should embrace free speech. The two are NOT mutually-exclusive.

But that doesn't give you or anyone else the right to insult and attack others.

Not even when the insults and attacks are fucking hilarious? Aw.

Look, if people are so thin-skinned that the opinions of some random hack on the Internet who's too fucking lazy to even set an icon offend them? That's THEIR problem, not mine.

You seem to agree that it's best not to make light of rape, but you disapprove of the moderators telling people that making light of rape or objecting to rape is bad?

No; you should know by now that I don't object to speech of *any* type.

What I object to is the moderators censuring a poster for making light of rape. (Or, much more accurately, posting a goofy comic that some people here completely misconstrued as making light of rape.)

Words != actions. Actions > words.

But sometimes silence is seen as acceptance or agreement.

That's beyond weak. That's the best argument you have for feeding trolls? Seriously?

We like our superhero comics here. Justice must be served, you know?

Censuring speech is not The American Way.

The mods enable us to keep our space fun and enjoyable, free from most obvious hurtful and harmful asshats.

No they don't.

You haven't been around here very long, have you? I guess you missed the shitstorm when the old scans_daily was booted off of LiveJournal and the comics blogosphere couldn't shut up about it.

And that equates to more than "Jack Dick?"

For the record, I was on this community back then. I posted as the username "Grrrimgodzzila" or something similar. But good job with the strawman attack.

Now I heartily recommend you read some of think over here.

I spend my entire school career, including university, being shoved full of that exact type of bullshit propaganda. Now I make my own decisions.

Good day, citizen.

Good day.

Eh, that explains it. Canadians aren't big on the whole "freedom of speech" thing. Just ask Mark Steyn.

But at least you're taking yourself a little less seriously now. Finally got the stick out, eh?

1) This is not an American community. The mods are: Canadian, Swiss, British and American. We've got members from all over the world. We did a poll and everything.

2) This is a paid and moderated community. The mods decide who lives or dies the rules, and who has posting access and when. In effect, this is a private space.

3) Who is posting on the internet? Real people. Where and when is the internet? In the real world. What you put out into the world, be it offline, or online, has a real effect on real people. Trust me dude, you're not just talking to spam bots.

b) Corrollory to the above - the internet mirrors the real world in most ways, except in how much easier it is to get away with being a jerk. That means that along with all those real people, there is real racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia and other isms on the internet. You can choose to be a part of that, and keep hurting people, or you can choose to do your best to step out of privlege, and fight it.

That's what we've chosen to do here. If you think that's ridiculous, then respectfully, you should probably find somewhere else to play.

1) Ok.
2) Uh-huh.
3) Der. But some of these "real people" have a huge stick up their asses and need to lighten the fuck up. Like I said before, if they're emotionally impacted when some random person they've never even met says something they don't like, I can't even imagine how they function in normal society.
b) I like jerks. Jerks are funny and entertaining. This community is funny and entertaining, because it's full of jerks to comic creators. (Being a jerk to the community itself, apparently, is verboten, but to comic creators? That's fine.)

I think it's ridiculous *and* I'm going to continue posting here. Oooo!

Now, ONCE AND FOR FUCKING ALL, I AM DONE POSTING TO THIS FUCKING THREAD. PLEASE DO NOT AWAKEN IT OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE IN ANOTHER WEEK AND PISS ME OFF SO I FEEL COMPELLED TO POST AGAIN.

And Jesus said: why do you point out the stick in your brother's ass when you have a log up your own? First remove the log from your own ass so that you can walk straight to take the stick out of your brother's ass.

On second thought, perhaps you should deal with the bleeding first.

...I'll be over here snogging Judas.
