I forget who, but someone asked for scans of when Spidey owned the entire X-Men team, so here you go. The cover and three pages from issue three of the Secret Wars crossover.

Then, one issue later in scans I ain't got, Wasp hands them (and Magneto) a similarly embarrassing short fight (Wolverine, I think, even calls it such) when she escapes from Magneto's base (before spending the rest of the crossover being comically inept or dead). One almost gets the impression Shooter doesn't like them much.

How heavy can a guy who's toned to the max with adamantium laced bones be?

For a guy that can lift something in the neighborhood of 10-20 tons, not that heavy. =p

So it's less "proportionate strength of a spider" and more "REALLY REALLY REALLY strong, and since he's our most popular hero, let's make him even stronger." He should be able to lift three tons, tops.

There was an early story where a truck almost overturned on him and Gwen, and he had to strain to keep it from crushing them. Someone who could lift 10-20 tons would have been able to stop the truck with one hand.

That said, I realize that his being ridculously over-powered is a result of several decades of writers tailoring his powers to fit the story at the time.

Yeah, it really depends on who's writing him at the time. One scene that really stands out in my own mind and I kindof revert to when I think of how strong he is, is when he's standing beside Nova. They're at some kind of steel reinforced door and Nova's debating about how to get them through it. Spidey sighs, walks up to the door, and yanks it out of it's mounting. The door, after he has it in mid-ait, looks to be close to a foot thick. Wish I could remember where exactly that's from. I *might* have it upstairs in my long-box, actually. If I do, I'll post it.

Officially, Spider-man's max lift is 10 tons. His uber clone, Kaine, can lift 20 tons. His webbing's strength varies depending on how thick he makes it. At about an inch, the Thing can't break it (according to Stan Lee many years ago). Spider-man can't break his webbing, supposedly, once its dry, but he can rip it while it's still wet.

It used to be officially 25 tons -- I think they retconned him down. That said, they also retconned him stupid, because since BND he keeps losing, or almost losing, fights that would never have been a problem before. Like, upgrading Hammerhead was great and all, but he's still a poor man's Wolverine, guys, give me a break!

Yeah he seems to have lost his two strength/power upgrades that had put him up to 25 tonnes since OMD, and is back to the around 10 tonnes lifter that Stan made him back in the day.

But on the bright side, at least they got rid of those damn stingers in the process!

One Wolverine, (or two now I guess) is more than enough! ;)

Honestly, I had no problem with the organic upgrades ... except maybe the webshooters, ironically! Though I hate all the OH NOES MY WEBBING'S OUT WHATEVER SHALL I DOOOOO histrionics of Brand New Day, good lord ... and really wish Marvel didn't have such a bad habit of retconning or sweeping away any potentially interesting new status quo with the next cool thing. We had at least another couple years' worth of Weird Shamanic Crap and Public Identity Spidey stories.

Found the scene I was thinking of. It's from Amazing Spider-Man #351, and the writer was David Michilinie. It's nice and refreshing to look back at a page that says Tom DeFalco: EiC btw. =)

Good, but not the most over the top..

Actually although the most overstated example of Spidey's strength was by David Micheline...Which is no knock against the guy as he wrote some absolutely amazing Spiderman issues, (pun not fully intended)and was THE best Iron Man writer..it wasn't in this issue. No, the one that even as a kid struck me as a little bit over the top was an issue of Amazing that he did with I think Todd McFarlane, (or the guy that came after that who tried to mimic his style)where Spidey flicks a freight carriage over with his finger, as a casual diplay of his strength to someone. (And no he didn't have his cosmic powers at the time..)That was just a tad over much I thought.

Having said that, a guy who can at bare minumum bench press 10 tonnes, should be able to throw cars at people. In fact one of my favourite displays of his strength was when he flung that jeep at the sniper who'd just shot his Aunt May. (Before all the OMD nonsense soured me on that whole story..)

So flinging Wolverine around, heavy little critter that he may be, should certainly not be a problem for Spidey. In fact I wish he did it more often!

Fastball Special? Hey, if the big giant Russian metal dude can do it, I don't see why Spidey can't.

Oh yeah he should totally do that, and without Wolverine's permission too. ...Just to see the look on Logan's face!

I think Wolverine is supposed to weight somewhere around 300 lbs. He's also supposed to be 5'2" or 5'4", so you can imagine how dense his body is.

See, that is the problem I have with Wolverine's powerset. I mean, he's got the healing factor going, which is why he can have the adamatium and the claws. But on top of that they had to make him super strong, so he could walk around with that metal laced to him. And that combination of powers seems kind of random to me...

I just had to pop out of lurkerdom for a second to ask - where'd you get your icon? Is there a fanart source for it?
