Kory, Raven, Dick, and not too much clothing
From the New Teen Titans #39, January 1988 - my formative comics years - comes some fun Edwardo Barretto art.

Oh yes, and there's a story too - Raven is able to feel emotions, falls for Dick Grayson, and seems to be trying to make him fall in love with her as well. Kory provides some emotional counselling in Tahiti for her, and while they're away, Dick moves in with Kory. Various relationship talks are had while lying around not fully dressed.

We start the comic with:

Dick! Dick! Dick! Dick! ...

I did mention not many clothes, right?

"Love should be between two people." - Dick Grayson, 1988

In the interests of space, removed a few pages showing Raven happily making people happy, and Kory requesting to talk to Raven. They teleport to Tahiti...

In the rest of the issue, Raven goes to a party held by other Titans (I do believe Terry Long is there), and Kory and Dick discuss how her marriage with Karras is really just a peace treaty.

Sigh - I miss Kory and Dick as a couple... They just always made sense to me.

That was in "Titans", and depressingly I wasn't even referencing THAT instance, which I would also give a pass to.

I was referring to the scene in Winick's Outsiders where for reasons I can't recall, someone on the team intrudes on Dick and Kory entwined with each other in bed. IIRC What was a real WTF about it was that this was pretty much concurrent with the "Nightwing - Lapdog of Tarantula" plot over in his own title...

I'm not sure of the inner timeline, but the publication date of the Dick/Kory bed scene is November '05, and the Tarantula thing ended in February '05. Then again, trying to think of the timeline generally hurts.

I stand corrected (and am glad I added in the IIRC, because clearly I don't recall correctly).

That date DOES sort of land it slap in the middle of "Dick turns his back on his heroic past and becomes a Mafia enforcer under this own name" so that might be why I associate it with a "WTF?"

It's not like the time period is clear - sometimes you have two or three issues that take place in the same day, and sometimes there are vast periods of several weeks that you only know have gone because a character or a narrative box tells you, so...

I tend to handwave it and similar issues with the "don't think about concurrent timelines too much" mantra.

Oh, right you are. Sorry, Winick-writing-Dick all blurs together in my head as one big snarl of weird emo and aggressiveness.

But why? Surely all you had to do to cleanse the mental palate was read his own exciting adventures which at that time were being written by... ah, well, um yes, Devin Grayson and Bruce Jones...

Nothing to see here folks... move along!

You might be thinking of the moment shortly after Donna Troy's death when Dick's as mopey as he's ever been. A full-page panel shows him and Kory in bed, obviously just having had sex (condom wrappers on the floor), and it's still not helping. But I don't think anyone intrudes except us readers and the reality that Donna is still dead.

Given that psychological hit, not to mention all the stuff that had been happening in Nightwing, I could see Dick trying to get back to the happy relationship Marv Wolfman depicted here and in earlier Titans stories. And clearly Kory is still carrying a torch for him.

Then again, Dick might have gone back to Kory's bed several times, whenever he felt down.

No, the death was Indigo's; Donna's death was during the Graduation Day event, that's what made Roy create the Outsiders in the first place.

Your interpretation of the psychological impact still holds, though.

Yeah, doesn't he even say that? Something about how the sex was supposed to make him feel alive or something like that?

Yes, brcause Dick is just the kind of guy to go for meaningless sex to make him feel alive... Oy... ]]-head-desk-[[

But going back to Kory wasn't meaningless sex. For that, Dick could have, you know, shacked up with a clothing designer he barely knew.

Going back to Kory had great meaning: it stood for the sex and love and happiness they'd shared when they were in their early twenties. Of course, you can't go back like that, and by the time we saw them in bed post coitus, he knew it. But in Dick's psychological state after the "Insiders" arc, it was plausible to me that he might succumb to the temptation to try.

More plausible than what Dick said about Kory while train-surfing with Tim. Or Dick having sex with Barbara while delivering a wedding invitation. (I can see Dick being torn between two loves; I can't see him pursuing them both at the same time.)

Good thing THAT never happened, huh? ;)

Meh, Dick's always been shpwn as a romance first/bonk second kind of guy... If he wanted comfort from Kory, he'd take his time over it, NOT leap into bed with her.

More plausible than what Dick said about Kory while train-surfing with Tim.

Yeah, well Dixon never seemed to like that era, and was editorially ordered not to refer to his Titans days as much as possible.

Or Dick having sex with Barbara while delivering a wedding invitation. (I can see Dick being torn between two loves; I can't see him pursuing them both at the same time.)

Yeah, there is no remotely plausible way to spin that piece of shit.

Well, A) it didn't happen, having not only been ignored but outright contradicted since it was published, and B) it was going to be a threesome and Kory just never showed up (surprise bachelorette party). Babs got mad when he delivered the invitation because he spelled her name wrong.
